We really do need some shooters...
When I look at our roster. I see a lot of potential shooters.
Omri Casspi could be a fine shooter if he has increased his stamina and cut back on his National Obligations. I can't see this season being the media circus it was last season everywhere he went. At some point, those nice Jewish people need to let him PLAY BALL! I think if his conditioning is done right, Omri might just be one of the shooters we need!
Garcia has always been somewhat of an enigma. Sometimes he is a great shooter, but more often than not he is hurt on the bench. Maybe it would be a good time to trade Cisco and see what we can get back in trade. Maybe a young point guard who has the potential to be a good outside scorer? Who knows.
Donte Green can be a good shooter when he is on. He is a VERY Streaky shooter. He needs to play within himself because often he gets a little wild with his game. At 6'11" he should be going for rebounds and scoring more inside. Sometimes he tries too hard and it causes the offense to stagnate. I think Greene would be better as a guy who comes off the bench to give us some scoring punch in the second unit. He could be a 6th man candidate if he would embrace that role.
Beno has proven he can shoot, but he is not what you would call a consistent 3 point shooter. He has a great short to medium range game. He is a Tasmanian Devil in the paint as Jerry Reynolds always says. But as for a deep shooter, he is not as consistent as you would like. His strength is in his PG skills and his ability to set others up as well as score driving to the hoop.
With the new bigs we have, there is will eventually be more need for deep shooters. I could see Petrie getting a Midlevel exception priced PG or SG to help with the outside scoring. A Pointguard would be great as it would allow Tyreke to move more freely without the ball and give him more opportunities to score. Also he could share the point with another scorer and that would give defenses a different look. That is why Beno and Evans looked good at times last season. But a better outside shooter would be better for Evans as he likes to slash and dish, and you really want a 3 point range shooter for Tyreke to kick it out to. Petrie should be looking for a player who can play some point but shoots a high average from beyond the arc.
I've heard Anthony Morrow's name mentioned, but he is a restricted FA. I think that would be a great pickup in Petrie's price range it Petrie can swing a trade. Nate Robinson would be a change of pace PG, but he seems to have locker room problems wherever he goes and is somewhat of a defensive liability. Luther Head from the Pacers is a very good outside shooter, but he is strictly a SG. Still he is relatively young and given open outside shots, he would bury a lot of them. Steve Blake from the Clippers is available. Another good Veteran outside shooter with PG skills. Same goes for Rafer Alston. Good veteran shooter and point guard. Other good possibilities are Luke Ridnour, Chris Duhon, Eddie House, Keith Bogans, Randy Foye, are all unrestricted free agent shooters. There is no shortage of guards who can shoot the ball that are available.
To me, J.J. Redick or Mike Miller would be a perfect fit, but probably beyond Petrie's price range, unless Petrie could come up with a sign and trade option. They are unrestricted but their services are in high demand.
Hopefully the Maloofs have given Petrie the green light to pick up a midlevel exception range shooter or 2 to help the Kings this season. Although we may have some shooters on the roster, the Kings could use a bit more long range shooting. Especially if there are any injuries to Garcia again or Beno. It is much easier to fill in a need in the back court than the front court. Go Kings!
