Nicknames

i always thought ak-47 was a cool nickname for andrei kirilenko. fits well with his name, number, and nationality. what are the odds?! ;)

same with b-52 for brad miller. gotta be a good night above the rim for that one to be appropriate for brad.....which aint that often. but oh well. still sounds cool.

And when Caron Butler used to wear 4, he was CB4, in honor of the movie CB4 (which stands for Cell Block 4) with Chris Rock. ;) He also spent time in a correctional facility, so it made it even more appropriate.

"Bonzi" Wells, (that can't be his given name)
His real surname is Gawen. He has a brother nicknamed Bubba (real name Charles) who played a partial season with Dallas in 98.

Btw, iirc, he was nicknamed Bonzi by his mom because she ate a lot of bon bons when she was preggers with Gawen.

I heard one of the announcers on ESPN call Peja PJ once... I found that odd.

I'm still partial to "Teko" as well. :)

Don't know if these have been mentioned..

Damon Stoudamire - Mighty Mouse
Chuck "The Rifleman" Person
Drazen Petrovic - Petro
Latrell Sprewell - Spree
Gary Payton - The Glove
Julius Erving - Dr. J
Dan Majerle - Thunder Dan
Sam Perkins - Big Smooth
Corliss Williamson - Big Nasty
Stacey Augmon - Plastic Man

The one that I can't get over above all others, as in "how could a grown man allow himself to be called that?" is Pooh Richardson. Until an NBA player goes by "Stinky", that will remain the ultimate.

All UCLA players, aren't they?

I also recall Haley going by "Tin Man."

Yep. And I actually got to see Pooh and Haley play. Reggie Miller was on those teams as well, but I don't remember him having a nickname!

Cassell

I dunno know if it qualifies as a nickname but Barkley was calling Sam Cassell "Golem" last year. Ohh.... my precious.

Hilarious! You gotta admit, the guy has his moments.

I remember that story from Dream Team I when Charles had that cut on his head and he found a bowling ball in his locker with a band-aid on it. He didn't think it was funny.

Spud Webb was named after the Russian Rocket - the Spudnik.

World B. Free is the real name of the basketball player formerly known as Lloyd Free.

Okay, I'm going to quote myself here:
