New Guys In Arco

#1
Okay, I know this is a bit early to be thinking about but our next home game is against Detroit on the 6th. And I just realized it will be our first home game without Chris...and our first home game with our new guys. What kind of reception does everyone think the new guys will get? And do you think there will be many Arco attendees that night paying their tributes to Webb (jerseys, signs and etc..) It will definitly be WEIRD to say the least! :(

We're kings fans...ofcourse the new guys will get a nice welcome...the fans in Sactown will by then had 5 games to get accustomed to them...so nobody will be going "who the heck are these guys"

as for the ARCO attendees there will ofcourse we "missing you" signs for Chris and lots of #4s...i think thats to be expected

sacramento is a supportive city and stands behind our team no matter what. i think though, if we keep losing these must win, favorable games, then a little bitterness might be in the air. It could even get worse if we go behind early and struggle throughout the game. Not because we now dislike our team, but because of the fact that we have to hurt watching our team go from once contenders to struggling pretenders trying to stay up in the race. As far as cwebb supporters, there will always be love for him, he was a huge part of all of our lives for years.

The kings were far away from being contenders with Webber in the lineup (you would be only fooling yourself if you thought otherwise). The trade was a great move for the present and for the future. This version is far more mobile and we got some depth. I'd support them.

Well, sloter, we will never know now what, exactly, that team was capable of this year.

We are Kings fans, they are Kings players. They will be welcomed.

Kingsgurl, you're right, we don't know... we don't know if we were contenders or if we weren't (although about 99% of NBA followers did not consider us a contender, just a dangerous playoff team) ... but let's not confuse facts with opinions ...
we did not suddenly go from "contenders" to "struggling pretenders".

I did not call the new team 'struggling pretenders'. I said we won't ever know how things would have gone now. Of those 99% of NBA followers who considered us a 'dangerous play off team' how many still do?
The old identity of the Kings is gone, the dynamics of the team have changed, some things for the better, others for the worse.
ARCO will welcome the new guys, it's what we do. Time to turn the page and move on.

I was referring to a post above mine. I think that we are still a dangerous playoffs team. Perhaps not to the Spurs (which we weren't in the first place), but we can play against any other team in the West, and more athletic teams like Suns or Sonics won't give us as much trouble. The only team that will be harder to handle is Dallas - Webber used to kill them.

I particularly dislike them since the trade ... I lived close to Philly for a few years, but I didn't even like them back then.

Sloter? You think the Sixers suck? Is this since the trade, or have you always disliked them?
I disliked them because they are not a team. They are one man show. Nothing more.

first the kings have to make the playoffs. and i think you're wrong when you say that we can play against any other team in the west. look at our records against the good teams in the west. 1-3 against spurs, 0-3 against sonics, 0-3 against dallas. and 1-1 against suns. sure things change come playoff time but if you expect this team to be a threat after playing only 20 some games together... dream on. and if we do some how miraculously hold the 5 seed then we will play dallas. without webber, i think dallas would love to play us in the first round.

I think Corliss will get a rousing welcome. Talk about weird. When he got traded he started and Pedja came off the bench. Now just the opposite. But they are entirely different players which should be a good team compliment.

As to Skinner, I see him becoming a fan favorite with blocks and rebounding. And his Pollard like goatee helps too. Kenny is a monster and once he gets integrated his moves to the basket will be more frequent and his power rebounding underneath, along with Corliss will bring back fond memories (no they won't. We've never had that kind of defense or rebounding before!!)

Anyway the Kings fan base is the greatest and will make them feel at home right away. And what they bring into a game will bring some new exictement as well. :)

I hope the fans at Arco will give the new guys a big ovation!! (I would!) I think that'll happen. The game will also be on ABC, national televised. I hope the fans will be more into the game too cause it seem like lately, the fans aren't until 4th qtr? The game is against the Defending Champ Pistons, so I hope it'll feel like playoff atmopshere. That'll help fire the guys up more and feel more comfortable.

We are Kings fans...and the true fans will always support the team whoever the players are. :)

Of course they'll be welcomed, although I would imagine the enthusiasm of the welcome might depedn on some degree to whether we come in having taken 4 of 6 on this road trip or losing 3 in a row skidding back home.

But either way these guys are all hard working roleplaying type players entirely too innocuous to draw any of the venom that was aimed at our former PF. O'm sure the Webber haters will make a point of cheering a little too loudly (will have nothing to do with the new guys) and the Kings fans will will a little more subdued, but it will still be a nice welcome I am sure.

No, but the upset potential that made us dangerous before was that a) we were extremely experienced and that b) we had two great players who might just come into the playoffs a little desperate for redemption (Webb and Peja, for different reasons), with Webb in particular wanting a title above all else. That was our potential hole shot. That maybe we COULD be great come playoff time just because of who and what we were, and the disappointments of the past. Now we don't know who we are yet, and there really is little potential for that sort of inspiring run. Best I am hoping for now is the new-team-everybody-together-let's-go-do-our-best-and-make-some-noise upset. But that won't get us past the true elite teams. For that sort of upset we needed desperation and great players on a quest for redemption.

I cannot believe even this thread has to be used to take another jab at Webber.

:(

Will the new guys be welcomed? Oh yeah. Will there be tributes to Webber? I don't think that will happen until the 76ers come into Arco on March 28. I suspect there will be an enormous showing of gratitude for what he brought to this franchise, whether some want to acknowledge it or not.

I started this thread in the hope that the subject would not draw the "webber bashers" out...aah well..a girl can try! How long will it be before they just stop...it was hurtful to fans of Webber when he was a Kings player and it just stings even more because he's gone and they still can't let it go!
