Looks like not only new screens, but they spent a decent amount of money on some new sound equipment. Arco is going to be crazy Wednesday night.

Nice! Although I gotta admit that I'll miss our little old school Arco Thunder scoreboard a little bit.

Okay I'm over it now.

WOOOOO!

Interesting...it almost looks as if they're going to be using the lower part of the existing scoreboard (player #, points, fouls) and maybe the clock, but positioning the new screens in front of the old crappy ones.

I'm interested to see how it looks during a game. IMO it looks a liiitle out of place just sitting infront of the old scoreboard instead of completely replacing it, but it'll be nice to have those new big screens up there. So cool to see how committed this ownership group is

VF21: Not fond of the gold lame, but the maybe the worst unis I've ever seen was those shiny silver unis the Mavericks had. They looked like cheap Mylar. Those were desperately horrible.

Those are the ones I fondly refer to as the "garbage bags"... :)

I never thought anyone would pay to put larger screens in ARCO/STA with a new building on the horizon. Awesome of them to make that improvement, even if they are temporary or not quite state of the art.

Maybe they listened to the surveys, because I (for one) said that the old scoreboard really had to go. ;)

Wow! Love the new screens and the Tee’s draped over every seat. In the old days you would get a Tee at the door you came in to ARCO. Shows you the new vision that the new owners have and that they are going to cater to Kings fans. Now, don't know why I'm saying this and not that anyone would care a bit, but back in the days when I was a season ticket holder my MO was to get to ARCO early grab a scotch go to my seat and see the players warm up. At midseason the penny-pinching Maloof’s changed the scotch from a well-known brand to something I never heard of. Yet they continued to charge the same price. Yes I was PO’D and revised my MO to a hotdog and a soda. One of the things I'm anxious to see this season is what the new owners have done to shorten the lines to the men's room. A vital fan comfort.

See? The Maloofs/STOP were right! All Arco needed was a little freshening up and she's good as new! New arena schmoo arena.

you're right thats exactly what they are doing. i didnt even see the Player/Points/Fouls thing on the new screens untill i read your comment. now it makes perfect sense

The new jumbo tron may only be used for the home opener only. Hopefully it's used for the whole season.

Seing these small rennovations and the ownership's enthusiasm and wanting to improve the place even with a new arena coming up makes me even more excited for the home opener, if that's possible. :D

First, I'm glad they got rid of that god-awful logo. It makes 0 sense to have two different logos like that.

Now that we finally have a chance to start out fresh, its time to pick an identity and stick to it. I had a conversion with one of the Kings owners in Dallas about this whole re-branding thing. We came up with what we felt were three solid options:

1) Go back to the old "Royals" name. Embrace our origins - one of the first original NBA franchises. And yes, we DID win a title in the 50's. No one counts it because the Royals won, not the kings (and it wasn't in Sacramento, but you get my point)

2) Purple and Black - KINGs. Go back to the glory days of Peja, Webber, Vlade. Change the uniforms to the Kings logo J- Will wore.

3) Start off from scratch. "Sacramento Senators?" Make a name that's unique to Sacramento and run with it.

If the Kings were swimming in money I'd go with the third option. Erase the past of being cellar dwellers and start fresh. Cement the team to Sacramento.

IMHO

Which has always been a crock of ****, in my opinion. Nobody says that the lakers only won 11 championships.

Eh, they were also the logo that Walt Williams wore. Pass.

LOLWUT?

I wouldn't be opposed to a return to "Royals" but really, they've been the Kings longer than they were the Royals, at this point. The name is suitable.

No freaking way would I ever endorse changing the name of the Kings to anything else. We fought too hard to keep them. The Royals are a baseball team from Kansas City. The Senators? Oh, please. Might as well just call us the Maloofs. The morals and character are about the same...

We aren't starting fresh. We're restoring what was good and getting rid of what was bad. We have an identity. We THE FANS didn't forget it, our previous ownership did.

No offense whatsoever, Ryan, but you've been in LA too long.

I feel like we can stay the Kings but the owners can create their own brand and image of the team, I dont think we need to use the Royals, the old Jerseys, or a new name. I think it'll be easy to create new uniforms, new images, and a new court that are all the same theme and brand without being too extreme.

Exactly. Basically what the Warriors have done. I've never liked the old logos and jerseys, but the new ones are great and they gave the team a new identity. I'm sure they can do the same thing here.

Like what the warriors did. Only without the sleeves...

i think we need to go back to white writing on the road purple Uni's like the old ones. looks so much better than black writing on the purple uni.

I have no idea where this hostility to your own history has come from, but it needs to end.

The guys wanting to erase your history have supposedly been defeated. Don't turn around and hand them a victory after the fact by doing it yourself. There have been 28 years of KINGS history in Sacramento. Everything you have known as NBA fans. Everything you have bled, bought, fought over, cheered. Its been Kings. Not Royals -- that was the Maloofs charming idea to kill the Sacto Kings dead so they could move on. Not Senators or some other made up name with no history. Sacramento KINGS. I don't know what sort of self loathing it takes to intentionally strip your own team of its name, but that's not what you fought for. You fought for the Kings. you won. Anybody comes along and tries to take that name from you now, you bite his/her fingers off.
