Nets ARE offering Harris for the 2nd pick?!

Yeah, that may just be the same report circulating around but if that is truly out there Memphis would be fools not to do it unless there is a financial issue there (in fact I can't find any other explanation for the Nets offering it either). It doesn't fix their PF hole and Conley would have to be moved -- maybe for that PF. But that would be the best young 1/2/3 combo in the game.

If that did happen, and if Rubio was the target, nothing we can do about it unless we put up a stupid offer. My target would then shift to Thabeet, and I would be focused on somehow tryignt o convince OKC to take Harden insteaad, maybe have them take Thabeet, then we take Harden and swap them for Thabeet whille throwing in little candy. Harden's intriguing, but if Kevin stays, he'd be a wasted pick for us. Then look for PG help later at #23 unless we do something more aggressive along the way.

I can't imagine trading an all-star PG for the 2nd pick in THIS draft. Seemed as though the nets and harris were a happy marriage.

This would mean no Rubio for us, and I would most like to snag Thabeet. Hey, we would get our frontcourt rebounding and defense all shored up.

I wonder how many people would change their minds and offer up the 4 and one of our bigs in light of this development? God, I wonder if Geoff would. Not me, I'm not blinking.

i can see conley being involved in the deal...
NJ needs a wing player... conley at the point, then they draft harden or evans for the wing or SGs..

nj line up

conley
Evans or harden
Carter
Yi
Lopez
....

with rumors stating that rubio MIGHT not be able to be with an nba team during training camp will give that team a disadvantage. i mean HE IS YOUR point guard.. and if he is not in the training camp to learn the ropes and the system.. your going to struggle...if nj drafts rubio, and somehow his buyout and hearings dont go well and he has to stay in europe during training camp or at least for a year.. nj is screwed. if it was us in that situation im pretty sure 30 games into the season with beno starting wont make us cringe too much right

heres to levien doing his wonders if he drops to us.. hopefully

Its an important accomplishment if that's what were to happen. We'd have a huge young frontcourt going 7'3" 7'0" 6'11", who had all the bases pretty much covered -- rebounder, shotblocker, post player, 2 skill guys+ 1 roleplayer. I think people underestimate what an accomplishment that would be to get the bigs in order long term. Then you can truly turn all your attention to the little man positons and just let the frontcourt grow into their roles. In a couple of years it could be one of the best big man rotations in the game.

Then just indulge my John Wall fantasy next year and pencil us in as a contender for a decade. :p

If this were NJ's goal, then we should trade them the #4 and Garcia for Harris (does that work?). I'd be very pleased with that. But I think they want a Ssssuperstar! so they're after #2.

OK. Make it so. :D

harden would certainly be a good complement alongside carter... conley and harden thats a heck of a deal for them...

rubio's contract buy out is a scare if he cant attend training camp they can shelf him at europe for how many years but then they would be at a loss at the point.

i just feel that chris wallace is going to pull a homer...

I've always been a fan of the three man frontcourt- I like it!

As for this rumor, realgm also posted a couple days ago that Minnesota was offering Jefferson and a 1st for Amare (which was quickly shot down by their front office) so take this with a giant grain of salt. The Nets front office has been solid enough over the years that I highly doubt this trade happens.

I am pretty much 100% sure this is BS. This is just the Grizz trying to throw out some talk that the 2nd pick is worth more than it really is. Watch on draft day the Kings trade 4 and 23 for that 2nd pick if the Thunder say they would take Rubio.

I don't think they have to say they'll pick Rubio...I think they have to actually do it. The Grizzlies' plan will likely be one of three things:

1. Take Rubio and keep him. In this case, they want him, they keep him. We don't enter in.

2. Take Rubio with the intent to trade him, and take the best offer on the table. This is where we come in and decide how much we're willing to offer.

3. Take somebody else. For us, bluff called, we win.

Recent draft history suggests that it's not terribly likely that the #2 pick will be traded before the draft -- in fact pick-for-pick trades usually aren't consummated until both picks have been selected and the higher team guarantees they're getting a player that they like at the lower pick.

The real question is, if they dangle him and then try to squeeze us, how little will get it done? Will the #31 pick get it done? Swapping Kenny's contract for Jaric's worse one? Or will their price not be worth it at all?

If I was small market Memphis, I simply WOULD NOT do this move. This move would take away my 7-3 defensive Center(who is on a cheap rookie contract) and it would take away 10 million + of my salary cap space on which I can go hard after Hedo, Ramon Sessions, Trevor Ariza

On the other hand, if I was a contending/fringe team in a large market, I'd do this in a second.

What does Memphis do with Hedo, Sessions or Ariza? They already have Mayo and Gay on the wings... they do this deal, and trade Conley for a PF, and they're pretty much set.

Stevetaebo has it on the nose. Memphis NEEDS Thabeet and a better backup PG but not Rubio. And they then have $10M+ under the cap to get stronger. Harris eats up their cap space and they still don't have a defender in the middle. OkCity already has a top PG. Then it's the Kings.

I wonder how strong was Rubio's camp in stating he would not play in Memphis? He has visited the Kings twice now and no one else yet. OkCity had to chase him down in LA just to talk to him but they already have a really good starting PG in Westbrook.

If this deals goes through than hopefully Thabeet will be ours. For some reason I have a feeling that even if Thabeet is there we wont pick him. I am starting to hate the stigma of Petrie type players.
