NBA-TV has been running season previews of all the teams. Set your DVRs... On Saturday, Oct. 24 the Sacramento Kings Season Preview will broadcast at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. The description says "Kevin Martin and the 2009-2010 Kings."

My program guide indicates it first showed on Oct. 14, but I sure didn't see it.

The Kings still have no posted TV schedule. Its getting awfully close to regular season. I can't believe no games are going to be on TV. Well, they do show one NBATV game. I can't remember it taking so long. What's up? :(

??? ALL the Kings games are going to be carried on Comcast, the same as last year, as far as I know. The only local change is that Ch. 10 won't be carrying any games.

That's what I think. I just wonder why the Kings website doesn't have that posted on their schedule yet. I figured they would by now.

Comcast will indeed be carrying every Sacramento Kings game this season.

I also don't recall the season preview being on 10/14. I have been searching for them to preview the Kings (seemingly one of the last ballclubs to be previewed), looking forward to seeing it.

I looked ahead in the TV schedule (on Direct TV)and it does show the first game being televised on the Comcast station (696 I believe).

Finally got a chance to see this... and I was somewhat pleasantly surprised. It had Kevin as the tenured veteran (which still boggles my mind about how quickly time passes) and it focused on Tyreke and Omri as the players to watch. Also talked about the toughness of Nocioni and Kevin McHale commented that with Nocioni and Casspi, teams playing the Kings might find it a little bit more difficult. They also mentioned how they hope Hawes will get back inside and play the post a bit more.

All in all, not a bad 30-minute peek at the team at all.

They had some great shots of Westphal at work with the team. The guy is a COACH. And the players listen to him and, even better, execute what he's asking them to execute. He was running some kind of one-handed lay-up drill and it seemed they all laughed - including Donte - when he said something about they'd be done after the drill if Donte didn't screw it up... Looks like there's camraderie and team spirit amongst the players and that's really good to see.

The secret scout has been pretty harsh with a lot of teams. My personal opinion is if he were anyone whose opinion we would respect, he wouldn't be the "secret scout." I think NBA-TV is trying to create the idea his opinions are somehow valid or worth listening to when for all we know he could have absolutely no real knowledge or understanding of the NBA at all.

Eh, I happen to like Eric Snow, and think he knows a lot about basketball. It still amuses me that, between him and Shawn, he's the one who ended up with a lengthy NBA career.

The funny thing is that McHale has been good too -- and after hearing his comments about Specner I would again like to say, as I did earlier this summer, that I would absolutely love McHale to come in and tutor him. He gets it.

Solid show though -- both of those guys sound like real analysts as opposed to the normal limelight loving boobs we get treated to on a regular basis for halftime etc. One major knock would be their curious refusal to even mention the defensive problems that really were what defined us last eyar. Westphal was the only guy who even mentioned them. Even their "key stats of 08-09" were entirely offense based.

As an aside, I rather doubt that NBA TV, which is of course just a branch of the NBA itself, has hired somebody with no NBA expertise as the "secret scout". Its probably actually a real scoout, or ex-GM or something like that.

P.S. Slim...Shawn? Shawn who?

Wait...are you saying Eric Snow is the "secret scout"?????

I like Snow and have even found McHale's comments to be pretty insightful.

Oh, sure he would. To be able to make all kinds of snide comments without having to own them? It's his style; especially if he can wait for the big reveal at the end.

Im pretty sure the secret scout isnt just one person. I think all the guy that do the show take turns. I still havent gotten to see the Kings season preview.

Its not Stephen A. either -- suffice it to say Stepen A.'s diction and delivery are unique.

Its a gimmick so it could be almost anybody, but it could also be there so that a guy who is currently unemployed does not burn any bridges.

And again, this is NBA TV, not TNT. They are generally going to staff it with NBA types, not media talking heads.

I just thought the shape of the head was similar to Smith, but you're right. They couldn't mask his unique stylings.

Correct me if I'm wrong please, but after the secret scout gave his dark opinion it seems Snow and McHale concurred that they did not expect the Kings to do any better than they did last year. I believe they both said the Kings would remain at the bottom of the league :(. Very disappointing to hear and not sure I agree, but it may be wishful thinking on my part.

No, that's correct. Was kind of a curious response as they were somewhat more upbeat during the bulk of the half hour. Which probably just means that they were upbeat by design but had to admit that prospects were dim when pressed. Still, they saw more hope for the future than the scout seemed to.
