What pick will we end up with?

Okay the combine anthro measurements are in and Eason has Kawhi Leonard type measurements.

Hands Length 9.25 versus 9.75 (L)
Hand Width 11.00 versus 11.25 (L)
Height no shoe. 6’ 6.75” versus 6’ 6”
Standing reach 8’ 11.5 versus 8’ 10”
Wingspan 7’ 2” versus 7’ 3” (L)

I loved his defense a free throw shooting percentage before this came out. If he is available at 4 he is for sure my pick. I’m guessing he may not make it past OKC at 3.
Tari Eason? top 3?

The idea would be that they would trade up with us because we'd come to them with other teams' offers for our pick already in hand. Essentially, we'd be holding the draft rights to Jaden Ivey hostage and forcing the Pistons to pay a ransom for him. Could would. Probably won't.
True, I just don't think it would be worth it for Detroit to part with a key piece like Bey for #4. Top 3, I can see it but I think there's a decent drop off after the top 3. I could see them throwing Grant in to make it happen though.

I would think they know the McNair doctrine by now - draft the best player available.
That is if you think Ivey is the clear cut BPA. I personally don't think so at all. I would take a few players before considering Ivey because I don't think Ivey is on another tier from many of the other non top 3 picks. McNair could have a different opinion though. If I was Detroit, I'd call McNair's bluff on picking Ivey himself. It's fear of another team trading into that spot that would make me think

That's another argument entirely. If you believe in the bpa doctrine for McNair it's got to make you worry as another GM because need is not what he bases his picks on and Ivey is at least in the discussion for bpa. If they really believed the Kings pick on need, they'd give zero weight to them picking Ivey.

It all depends on what the prospects are rated at. Like if you used a 100pt system and you had them rated something like this.

100 - Smith Jr
98 - Banchero
95 - Holmgren
85 - Ivey
84 - Murray

Then maybe Ivey is technically BPA on your big board but is it worth going BPA at the last position of need again when the next player is only 1pt worse? If Ivey was rated a 94 and Murray was an 84, I could see taking Ivey but if you've got them really close, then it's not as simple as just taking BPA no matter what because the difference might not matter if he's not actually all that much better in the end.

It was the cheap ass Suns owner that didn't want to pay a top 5 center. This is on them. Ayton carried himself as well as anyone didn't complain all season . Then Monte singled him out when all other Sun's players crapped the bed. They didn't utilize him all post season.
Yah but again, it's not his first time doing something like this. Seems when the Suns do bad he starts to get toxic. Not to mention you have Suns players talking trash about other Suns players. I just don't want anything like that to happen here. I would need an assurance that he will be on good terms with coaches and teammates before even looking at trading for this guy... I know Webber came to sac with a chip on his shoulder too, but I am not sure if I would take that chance.

I mean...If Banchero is still there when we pick...You would REALLY want Monte to pass him up for someone who will most likely be less effective on the defensive end, and less productive on the offensive end?
If it were Murray or Banchero I would take Murray 100 out of 100 times. So yes.. I would pass on Banchero if he dropped to the Kings and would take either Murray or even Ivey over Banchero. If Murray wasn't available I would probably want to trade down to get Davis.

That standing reach & wingspan from Eason is looking mighty fine right now. Wouldn't mind trying to trade down, drafting Eason, and picking up another asset/pick in the process.

I'm a simple man and haven't seen more than highlights on these possible top draft choices.

So I look at Murray and think - hmmm, plays a position of serious need (check), can shoot the three and therefore slot in next to Sabonis (check); solid rebounder (check); hi BBIQ, hard-working, not a knucklehead (check, check, check); good rim protector and overall defender (check)... adds up to a big CHECK mark for me. Would like to see bigger assist numbers from him, but...

Would be a very solid choice.

It's a shame Michael Jordan was undersized at 6'5" too or he could have really been good.
Who said Mathurin was undersized? I said there was no way he was 6'7", his reported height. Baja said I was comparing him to centers and was underestimating his size. His size was over-reported by two inches. There were people on this board talking like he was a possible SF, or at least a BG/SF. Are we having that discussion now?

Then I guess I would just have to add you to my list of KingsFans.com posters who I will be calling out 5 years down the road, when Banchero is helping his team win games, make the playoffs, and maybe even win championships, while Murray is either struggling to take us back to relevancy, or has since been traded by the Kings because of his underwhelming performance.

That works for me...:p:p:p

If you pick Ivy you have the Fox, Haliburton, Mitchell mess of a year ago. Plus you need a wing. I think, unless Sharpe goes before 4, you have to take the risk.
Disagree, Ivey is a SG with combo potential. If Haliburton had Ivey's athletic skill and physical prowess he'd still be here. A 3 headed snake at PG/SG of Fox/Ivey/Davion is alpha as you get athletically. Minutes wise you can even cut the fat and get everyone near to or legit starters minutes. Fox/Ivey 34 mpg, Davion soaks up those 6th man minutes and would still get 28 mpg. All 3 can play together.

Wingspan is legit but the size is a bit smaller than you would like. Same size as Bogi.
I think we can rule him out as the next Kobe! :D

Unless McNair and/or his peeps saw this kid in high school I don't see any possible way they would know what they are getting. They would have no idea of either his BBIQ or his toughness or his competitiveness. That's a question I'd love to throw to McNair: Did you see Sharpe play in high school or at least watched full games of his from high school?

I don't know what Mathurin's height is, but I don't believe he's been officially measured yet.

Sharpe was touted as the next big thing for a long time and rated number 1 coming out of high school. He's not the dark horse people think he is in any other way that he sat out a college year and there's a cloud as to why.

You're referencing an exchange that took place months ago in a different part of the forum. I don't know how anyone else was supposed to know that. In any case, I don't think 6'6" in shoes is even undersized for a SF anymore. He'll be a SG for his first few years in the league and then he might switch over to SF once he's gotten stronger like Andre Igoudala or Jaylen Brown.

But can you play Ivey and Fox together? It seems like their games are way too similar and don’t really compliment each other - they’re both slashers with suspect outside shooting and defense.

It feels like you have no shooting or defense with that backcourt, and it’s just too imbalanced to work well. Sure, Davion helps balance it out a little, but is he really good enough to make it all work? I’d lean towards no.

Is there? If I understand he was technically graduated from high school and at a "prep" and then decided to re-class and go to Kentucky in the middle of this school year. But as he wasn't up to speed with UK, he and Cal decided not to play him, with both parties originally saying he'd play at UK in '22-'23. I guess he figured he had a good idea of where he stood in terms of the draft after running through practices with the UK squad and bailed on the whole college plans. Is there anything more to it than that?

I think they can and largely because of the program Ivey comes from. He's already pretty good about running off pin downs and playing off screens.

His catch and shoot is a little low but I noticed when watching him this year that he was making a point sometimes to stand waaay outside. A good deal of college 3 point specialists actually take a bunch of shots that are slightly inside the NBA 3 point line. It's not as severe since they moved it out in the college game but still a difference.

It's been hinted on twitter that he's somewhat "gamed" the system to use Kentucky as a training grounds for the NBA, and we all know Calipari's history so... even rumors are going to hold more weight. Personally, I say who cares, the college game is as corrupt as any other pro sport.

Sure but we can look at other prospects who were rated #1 in HS and then didn't live up to the hype in the NBA for one reason or another. Vlade drafted two of them in consecutive years. I wouldn't draft him just because he was an elite High School player. I would assume most people are looking at his size and his general mock draft position as evidence enough that he's a fit for us. If he had played all season at Kentucky though he would be subjected to the same criticisms as every other prospect who has extensive game tape against college competition. We can't just assume that because he was an elite prospect he would have dominated in college and earned himself a top 5 draft ranking. I would need to see him in a gym in some 5-on 5 action before I was comfortable using a 4th overall pick on him and I don't think anyone is going to get that.

Yeah, and they were both PF's in a league where PF's are a thing of the past. And if you're talking about Giles his knees were shot. To me, the way to look at top rung players is simple at first, who is like them at the NBA level and what kind of value/success are you seeing. Athletic G/F's that show some shooting prowess are really valuable. The thing about even high school players now is that from the age of 14 or even younger they are pretty much working out and/or playing against the same big names you see in college. Yes, this is the knock on him. There is less verifiable evidence because of that lack for national exposure at the next highest level. But, the same went for Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett. And LeBron. On the flipside, had Sharpe played in college and dominated, or maybe not even since there isn't a single player in this draft that truly looked dominant, he probably wouldn't even be in the discussion at 4. Heck, maybe he isn't anyway. Orlando could very well take the gamble themselves.
