Egad, the Hawks have got to get a point guard to replace Mike Bibby; he hasn't exactly been tearing it up, but Jeff Teague is definitely not ready for prime time...

Btw supe, can't disagree with anything you said but I have to say the artest/ariza swap was huge. It's all about chemistry
The chemistry is fine. Artest certainly isn't having a negative impact. Everyone loves him. Living in LA, I listen to a lot of local sports radio, and around this time of year, it's pretty much all dedicated to the freakin' Lakers, and there's no indication that chemistry is the problem, especially as it relates to Artest. Ariza wasn't some long-time staple himself; he basically only had a year on the court with the Lakers.

Whether it's affected them in a negative way or not is unclear, but I don't think it's made them a worse team. I think they are a year older, they are arrogant and complacent, and they have the same deficiencies the 2000-04 Lakers had: can't stop quick guards, can't defend the pick and roll, weak bench. If Bynum gets back and Odom goes back to the bench, they'll get better offensively, but it's the light switch mentality rearing its head. The Lakers think they'll be alright once the playoffs start. I hope they keep thinking that.

Bibby is gonna be okay though, right? I thought it was just a late season "get better, dude" kinda precaution before the playoffs, no?
It is; I was more referring to the fact that the Hawks have no backcourt depth. But, we did see a potential preview to what a Johnson-less Hawks team might look like.

Congratulations to the Bobcats on ensuring no worse than a .500 record for the first time in their franchise history. Back-to-back tomorrow @ New Orleans, with a chance to clinch their first winning record.

It amuses me to hear the Hornets announcers talk **** about Charlotte's offense, while the Bobcats are runnin' up in 'em...

I mean, yeah, their offense is bad, but glass houses, and whatnot...

It offends me that Don Nelson can claim to be the "winningest" coach of all time.
Nellie's now 1,333-1,061 in 31 NBA seasons as newly crowed winningest coach. GSW are extremely relieved he did it before this season ended. The FO was worried that he'd be one stinking win short and there would be pressure to haul him back for the "honor," requiring a new contract. Now, he can FINALLY retire fat and happy to his home in Maui instead of getting the boot which most fans in the Bay Area have wanted for a some time.

At least he has a winning record. When Dick Motta had this honor it troubled me to no end.

I like to think of the "winningest" to be the coach with the best winning percentage though. Nelson needs to drop the "ing" from whatever he would like his title to be called.

Bobcats were in danger of giving up a game to Detroit at home, but DPOY candidate Gerald Wallace did his best Nightcrawler impersonation in the final minute and a half, because he appeared to be everywhere. Orlando's going to be the overwhelming favorites against the Bobcats in the playoffs, but you can't count out a team that can trust in their defense to win games.

How'd you like to be the Blazers? Missing Roy, Oden, and Pryzbilla. They had to rely on 30 points from MARCUS CAMBY to win against the Thunder. I wasn't aware Camby was capable of scoring thirty. They're going to the playoffs but they have absolutely no chance unless Roy returns.

Nellie is playing 4 of 5 ( Curry, Ellis, Tolliver and Williams) of his starters the full 48 min. His lone subsitution Devan George has played 30+.

Seriously?

I'm not all for sitting stars to rest up for the play offs, but this is taking the opposite to the extreme. God forbid one of those guys don't suffer some horrible injury playing their 47th min.

This Warriors Blazers game has just been nuts. I'm not going to explain why.. But if your watching you know what I mean. The foul outs, the injuries, Curry going off.. About as entertaining game #82 can be.

Did you even watch the game? He had no bench whatsoever. He basically had 6 guys to play the entire game and one got injured. And what does Golden State have to do with the playoffs?

Crawl on NBA TV has Aaron Brooks as being named 2010 Most Improved Player.

EDIT - Being corroborated on Clutchcity, vis-a-vis the Houston Chronicle.

I just emailed a Washington Post sportswriter to correct a statement that he made, that Adrian Dantley is the only ROTY in any major sport to have been traded away after winning the award. As a Kings fan, I know this to be completely false, because we've traded away four, including some legendary HOFers: Oscar Robertson, Jerry Lucas, Mitch Richmond and Chris Webber. As far as I can think of, the only ROTYs who played for us who we did NOT trade away were Maurice Stokes (disabled a few years into his career) and Ralph Sampson (allowed to walk after playing one season for us at the tail end of his career). Being TDOS and all, this got me to thinking... is that another record our franchise owns? Have we traded away more ROTYs than any other team?

Adrian Dantley was traded away the very summer after winning ROY - I'm sure that's what the writer meant.

Edit: Although Webber seems to put the lie to that, although he actually somehow opted out of his rookie contract after his first year (must have been different rules) and forced a sign-and-trade.

Yeah, that was two CBAs ago, so the rules were probably waaay different as it pertains to rookie contracts. I think that might have even been before the rookie pay scale was introduced.

Edit: According to the following link, the rookie pay scale was instituted in 1995, two years after Webber was drafted. So yeah, the rules were definitely different. http://hoopedia.nba.com/index.php?title=NBA_Draft
