Considering the amount of high draft picks on their team and all the hype surrounding a Kyrie/Bynum pairing, the Cavs have looked less than good to start the season.

I know that, with Douglas hurt, the backup PG position is difficult for GSW, but did anybody else think that not resting Curry at all in the fourth was just plain wrong? the guy was on fire in the third and didn't do a damn thing in the fourth. Jackson should've at least tried something when Westbrook went to the bench. make Iggy bring the ball up or something.
Good.

Screw GS. I care about GS's success about as much as I care whether my neighbor has oatmeal of cheerios for breakfast. But I've been in enemy territory for years so ignore my musings if you wish.

Monta averaging 22.1 points on 47% from the field, 5.5 dimes, 3.4 boards in 37.5 minutes. I saw part of the replay of Dal/Hou and he looked like one of the 10-15 best players in the league for this game. He took a lot of flack on this board when we were in the supposed mix for him this summer, and you have to wonder how he would indeed look on this team at this point

The dude's been balling but he certainly wouldn't fit in with our apparent new emphasis on the future.

Monta would get in the way of Ben's development and would take away a lot of minutes from him.

a whole lot different. he's playing on one of the quintessential veteran teams with a set structure that goes top-to-bottom. on this team, though? I'd strongly suspect that he'd be isoing it up and fighting with Cuz and IT for touches.

No, the point is I don't have to wonder how he would look on the Kings. And I don't...

There is no way at all to know how he would perform on the Kings, whether he would complement or detract from Cousins, etc.

We don't have Dirk or a player like Dirk, an elite pick & roll, stop and pop player who spreads the floor anywhere within 25ft of the hoop. Cuz is dominant but a different type of dominant and would not be able to run the two man game with Monta the way Dirk does.

Right now Monta/Dirk look lethal when they clear a side of the floor and run pick & rolls, and they do it time and time again. Because Dirk is one the best at spreading the floor Monta is also getting much better looks due to defenses not being able to load up on him. If Monta were here it likely would have been Cuz clearing out in an iso, then Monta clearing out in an iso, or running Monta off screens occasionally, basically taking turns with the ball. Not nearly the same dynamic. Wouldn't have as much success operating in the same spots Monta/Dirk run their pick & rolls.

There's also the fact that the Mavericks is an "ideal" place for a guy like Monta. Veteran team, veteran coach, superstar who won't take any of his crap. Monta has always been one of the more talented people in the NBA, he's just gotten in his own way too much for his own good. Surrounding himself with guys Marion, VC, Dirk and a coach like Carlisle is a great move for his career

Good night of NBA basketball: I always enjoy the chance to see the other teams play, when the Kings have the night off. A few performances caught my eye in some "whip around" coverage tonight:

  • Brooklyn got torn out the frame, again. This time, in Minnesota; I think it was the first time since going to Boston that KG ever had a ****ty night when going back to Minnesota. I mean, everybody says that the Nets are a team that's built for the playoffs, and maybe they are, but it's hardly set in stone that they are going to make the playoffs.
  • Tough Juice dropped 38 on the 76ers, in a loss; I didn't even know he still had it in him. Luke Ridnour played just his fourth game of the season, and the only reason I mention that is because I was thinking, just the other day, when people were bitching about Vasquez, "Hey, what the hell happened to Luke Ridnour?" Meanwhile, it looks like Spencer Hawes still has "contract season mode" engaged; he's playing well, but I'll remain skeptical until he does it again next season.
  • I switched over to IND/BOS when I saw that the Celtics had the lead, going into the third quarter, because I thought, "There's no way that's going to hold up!" And, sure enough, it didn't: the Pacers basically pulled a Milton Berle on the Celtics (sorry, I know that's not really family-friendly) in the third. When they finished the quarter on a 12-2 run, I said, "Yeah, I probably don't have to watch any more of this."
  • Most enjoyable game for me to watch tonight has been CLE/NOP. I really like this Pelicans team, down twelve in the fourth, and came back to win by four. Anthony Davis is a stud: played like trash for most of the night, and still finished with 17/13. Evans had his best game of the season: 19/10/4/1, with no turnovers, his first double-double since January.
  • The Spurs... man... You run out of compliments, at some point. Naismith sleeps well, knowing that the Spurs are in the league. Even when Memphis made their run, there was no part of this game where I actually thought that the Spurs were going to lose. It defies belief that the don't have at least two more championships.

Next time you see that NBA Christmas Day commercial, which has D-Rose, Durantula, Curry, The Beard, and Nash shooting at 5 baskets until LeBron comes flying in, check out the background. If you look close enough, you'll see that it's Arco, er, I mean Sleep Train Arena. You can tell by the red numbered section signs and the seating layout. I mean it's all computerized, but still pretty cool

Igoudala popped his hamstring ( "I can't walk right now, but I'll be back sooner than everyone thinks.") Warriors are looking awfully thin right now.

Bogut looks absolutely terrible at the free throw line, why lock him up before he has a healthy season?

As it was mentioned earlier in the thread, the Warriors playing their starters over 40 minutes isn't a recipe for long-term success in the NBA. They are riding Lee like he never injured his hip last year.

Rose with another knee injury on a seemingly innocent play.

Slim, good outline of the night - do you have league pass?

Really hope Rose doesn't have a serious knee injury. Guy has battled for 18 months to get back and another serious injury could really change the entire trajectory of his career.

Carter-Williams balling again according to boxscore. I freely admit he was one of my least favorite prospects in the top 12 at the time. Some thought if he got a consistent jumper going he'd be nice, looks like this is still the case

Nets now 3-10... Over 180 mil in payroll/luxury tax for Prokhorov for this? Competing with us for draft position? Granted they have played a few more road games, but shouldn't this be a lesson in trading future for has beens? Nash in LA, Hakeem in Toronto, etc. I just feel sorry when I see KG at this point, heart is still there but not the legs

the Hawks get to switch draft positions with them for the next two years, due to the Joe Johnson trade. somewhat related, the Knicks owe their first rounder to the Nuggets (Melo trade). if there's ever two teams desperate to make the playoffs this year, it's those two. luckily for them, the Eastern Conference is pathetic and at least one current playoff team absolutely has to miss them, in order to keep their pick (Philly).
