Marcus Smart is much bigger, longer and can guard more positions/players. He's 3x first team all-NBA defense and has won DPOY. I love Davion Mitchell, but he's not Marcus Smart. And the KINGS could really use a pitbull defender with the length/size Smart has, something they haven't really had since Ron Artest.

Agreed, I wouldn't have given up TWO FRP's, which I clearly stated earlier was too much. But I sure would have loved to get Smart for #24, a player and maybe one of our 2nd rounders.

Smart is gonna fit right in with Memphis' defense-first mentality. But he would have fit in really well here in SAC, with what the KINGS are lacking and also his ability to create for others.
Marcus Smart is 6’3” and had difficulty keeping up with quicker guards last season as his body started breaking down physically. His last series for the Celtics saw him getting destroyed by Gabe Vincent and Cody Martin because the Celtics coaching staff had to try to hide him from Jimmy Butler. He’s still a great team defender and maybe a smaller role in Memphis will be just what he needed to get back to his old level of play but let’s not act like the Grizzlies are getting DPOY Marcus

What do you all make of the Warriors trading for CP3?

They are surely better off than with Jordan Poole, that's for sure. CP3 will help them. Their defense is already measurably improved.
I know we didn't need more reasons to dislike the Warriors but they're really leaning in to this new heel angle bringing in the NBA's #1 on-court lobbyist CP3 and picking the guy who sucker punched his own teammate over the guy who got sucker punched. They might be better next season if Poole's regression continues but then what? Their timeline has basically been reduced to "now or never".

Great points. I agree, they are better in the short term but not in the long term. But given the age and health of their stars, that may not be the worst thing.

As for Jordan Poole and his “regression”, he’s never been an adequate defender. Nor seemingly interested in becoming one (if even possible). So ridding themselves of a volume chucking awful defender is a good thing regardless.

He might bounce back a bit offensively, but I doubt it. The dude desperately wants to play like Steph Curry and isn’t half as talented or skilled. To be fair, most aren’t. But many of those players recognize that fact thus exercise better restraint.

That said, having CP3 on the team surely makes GSW much more unlikeable than they’d already become.

Filip Petrusev reportedly got a deal finally from the 76ers I really hope he can play PF at the NBA level it would really up his value at 6'11. If he's stuck at C only it really limits him.

This is starting to look like a Greg Oden situation. He already couldn't shoot before bulking up and Detroit just keeps bringing in more guards and wings to play next to him who will take the ball out of his hands and can't space the floor.

Tyreke might be the better comparison. Absolutely unreal start to a career, followed by injury after injury, and a franchise cratering their development by making them switch positions for lesser players. (It’ssimilar all the way down to both front offices acquiring way too many big men at once.)
