[NBA] Comments that don’t warrant a thread (JUL/TDOS)

Maybe they could also stop taking gambling advertising and normalizing dirtbag behavior from the comfort of your couch. I am no puritan, just think a) it's a massive conflict of interest and 2) there are more guard rails when it is required to do this stuff in person. yeah, a mob bookie will probably break your legs instead of offline collections to wherever but they also aren't likely to cancel your bets after you've won because they decided you are an edge player. These online books are taking advantage of novice bettors and banning/limiting sharps the minute they detect players are making smart bets.

At this time in his career, Rozier had made almost $90M and he had another $75M coming guaranteed.

Over/unders should basically pay out 2x, so this is like $14K for the gambler, unless there's something about these bets that I don't understand.

Jontay Porter's case is at least understandable - he was a fringe player with $2M in career earnings and was caught manipulating a bet that had a $1.1M payout. But Rozier? If this dude wants/needs $14K, either just give it to him or don't! Blowing your career for pocket change is the worst possible option.

The headlines don’t seem to match the articles. The NBA cleared him. The Feds met with him in 2023 and found no wrong doing. The betting house initially held payout of the winnings due to “threat of insider information” but then did in fact pay. His lawyer said the investigation is ongoing but that he is not part of it. I dunno, unless they have some new information they haven’t released it seems like this is slander. As you pointed out, the bets payed out nothing. Why not just place a few larger bets instead of a very suspicious 30? Would have been smarter if it was a scam.

If you had inside information wouldn't just betting like 50k on one of the unders be less suspicious?

Placing 30 wagers is more akin to feeling confident that Terry's gonna have a bad night and hoping you'll hit 2/3rds or better.

I'm not a sports gambler but that's how the ones I know operate while the rubes get lured by parlays or betting long odds on their favorite team.

Now if he had parlayed that bet it would be more interesting but it could also be a coincidence and you'd have to look at a) did he have a history of similar bets and b) did he have 2 or 3 degrees of separation at best from Rozier.

If he parlayed all his unders it would be more than 2x payout but most books cap winnings at 1 million Ceasers allows the most at 3 million. Either way why throw away your career for 3 million at most

Given the whole gamut of humanity that is on the internet, someone is bound to hate. Only those who strongly feel about something can be bothered enough to voice it. Hence we are left with mainly the extremes (hate or adulation).

I personally believe we are on the verge of a cultural revolution in regards to social media. The collective consciousness has begun to identify the digital platforms as a detriment to society. Maybe it’s as simple as moving away from hot take with no consequence culture or maybe we will just go back outside.

I can't imagine that any book would allow you to parlay related unders like that. You can parlay stuff that's independent, but if the book allowed you to parlay related bets like that they'd go out of business real quick.

So books actually wisened up on this a few years back. There was a game where Draymond was only going to play like the first minute for some sort of streak and then immediately check out. This info came out super late, like literally 5 or 10 minutes from tip-off, from a beat, and a bunch of sharps absolutely pounced on Draymond unders. Books got rinsed and they took like 3 or 4 days before they finally paid out the bets.

David Robinson was in Iowa today riding RAGBRAI. For those that don’t know it stands for Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa. It’s a week long ride that attracts 15k plus riders averaging around 50 miles or more a day. Overnight stays in cities and small towns. Imagine how big a bike has to be for a 7 footer.
