NBA All Star Weekend 2014

How does it feel? Pretty damned freaking lame...

That was not a dunk contest. That was a travesty.

Damian Lillard > Barnes

When it comes down to it, there are probably two guys on the Kings roster alone that are a better fit for the dunk contest than those two. You can't tell me that D-Will and Acy's beard couldn't do better than what Barnes wound up doing.

Some of these formats they come up with, continue to make this contest less and less exciting.
Just use the original format from back in the 80's.

Ben's first dunk when he had to extend huge with his left hand, was outstanding

I'm guessing that is definitely one vote against the new format?

Oh hell. I know you live for this whole weekend, but thus far I have seen very little that even kept my attention. It's dissolving into nothing more than an annual get-together that used to be fun until all the cool kids decided not to show up any more and now they just keep it going because they don't know what else to do.

Yeah, but as far as D-Will goes, we run the risk he might bounce the ball off the backboard and give himself a concussion or something. ;)

I haven't watched the dunk contest for years and now we return to the old pattern. What a waste of time. If you make a dunk, you're done? Yawn.

What else would you be doing, in a non-Olympic year?

All-Star Weekend should mean ALL-STARS.

3-point contest should consist of those players who have the top 3-point percentages.
Skills contest should be those point guards with the best assist to turnover ratio or something.

Oh, bullcrap. One dunk by John Wall did NOT bring the freaking dunk contest back. And Kenny Smith saying the format was great is ridiculous. Come on, somebody. BE HONEST!!!!!

Yeah I'll have to agree. Just getting one dunk from each contestant is pretty lame.. There's some decent idea in the format but 1 round elimination is too extreme, and best of 3 would be too draggy, which is the flaw in it.

Probably catching up on a good movie. Loved Shaq's comment about giving credit to John Wall for making his dunk on the first attempt. I'd like to see it where there are three rounds. Each player tries his dunk ONCE in each round. Make it and get points. Don't make it and too bad.

I actually thought that the best Skills contest they ever did was the one with Dwyane Wade vs. LeBron James vs. Kobe Bryant vs. Chris Paul, which was won by Wade.

The rookie acquitted himself well, but he had no chance in this format. Under the previous rules, it probably would have been him and Wall in the Finals.

I am bemused that both times we actually had a flyer worthy of the dunk contest its come during years when they decided to dicker with the format and so our guys nevr got to show what they can do.

Not mind you that I think much of the normal format. All the missed dunks brought that contest to its knees a decade ago at least.

WOW WORST DUNK CONTEST IN THE HISTORY OF THE NBA. THE NBA DUNK CONTEST HAS SUCKED FOR YEARS AND THIS YEAR THERE WERE ACTUALLY GOOD DUNKERS, THEN THEY BRING IN THE crapTIEST FORMAT THAT NOBODY LIKES. I WAITED 3HRS TO WATCH A DAMN 10 MINUTE DUNK CONTEST THAT LASTED 1 ROUND.

Totally agree. It needs to go back to one attempt per round. If you're gonna try something you're not sure you can do, you might want to reconsider. I remember practically nodding off while waiting for someone - Nate Robinson perhaps - to complete a successful dunk. I mean, come on. This is getting into the land of infinite monkeys typing away on infinite typewriters territory.

At least a decade. When the stars quit taking part, I lost interest. Remember Larry Bird asking his competitors who was going to come in 2nd? If the winner this year said that, we'd yawn. There was nothing this evening that was interesting. I must admit I watched a whole quarter of the celebrity game.

Man, this dunk contest was just disappointing. The whole team idea for the allstars suck. I also thought Damian Lillard won that round... the voting was biased. He almost made it in only 2 dunk attempts vs George who dunked it in 3. I also don't get why they counted out one of Ross's dunk attempt to basically give him 4 tries. Harrison Barnes and the Warriors suck. Barnes had no energy, no enthusiasm, and did a sucky dunk. McLemore's dunk in the stupid freestyle round was better than both Lillard's and Barnes in the actual first round. Plus, he only did it in one try.

They should just cancel the dunking contest. It has sucked for at least 5 years... the 3pt contest was better than the dunk contest. Caps is always needed when I waited again..3hours to watch the worst dunk contest in the NBA with half assed efforts that took at least 2+ tries for their dunks with the exception of Wall.

Actually the best dunk contests since 2000, were with a "normal" format. The best one of all with two top dunkers going at each other, was Jason Richardson against Desmond Mason

That's why the format is horrible. Ben's great dunk in that first "round", gets lost in the mix and barely talked about, because there's two other guys waiting against a clock at the same time. Nothing is highlighted, because there's too much going on at once.

If Ben does that dunk on it's own, in a normal one dunk at time contest, it gets very high scores and hype from everyone

It's too bad the crowd didn't get excited until the very last entry. They needed one more head to head round. I don't mind the team dunks as some kind of warm up exhibition. Maybe give the winning team members of that round an fourth redo dunk when they blow their first three in the individual rounds.

That John Wall reverse and Ben's fumbling recover first round dunk were the only contest worthy dunks.
