Your absolutely right. Thornton is a streak shooter. But he's a much better ballhandler and passer. Thats why I lean in his direction over Crawford. Crawford has a much higher upside as a scorer, and if thats what your looking for then he's your man. But if your looking for an all around player then Thornton is your guy.
 
Mayo is another good call. Figure he's a big part of Memphis' future, though, and would be even harder to attain than Gordon or Harden. Hill, I'm not sure I see the match. But he's likely a long shot, too, as it sounds like the Spurs will either eventually trade Parker or let him walk next summer while handing the reins to Hill.

But how important is he really if they were trying to trade him and Thabeet last year for Ellis?

Agreed - we need an elite shooter who can also handle the ball. I actually think Beno pairs extremely well with Tyreke.

The ideal PG and SF to pair with Tyreke (who may be a top 3 slasher in the league at this point) would be the 2003-2004 versions of Peja and Bibby - unfortunately, they were here 6 years too early in that condition.

I wouldn't count out J. Crawford's all around game just yet. Let's wait and see how he plays his first year as a rook and then we can make further evaluation on how is all around game is. They both have good potential to be high scoring threats for sure.
 
I'm thinking we will have to make due with Beno and Cisco until the trade dead line. I'm sure Petrie will take a run at an Eric Gordon/ OJ Mayo type. Slim chance their teams bite on the offerings of Dalembert or Landry and a 2014 2nd round pick.

GP and crew will be looking for this mythical 2 guard in a trade and for sure in he 2011 draft:)

Okay, not that you got that off your chest, lets invest ourselves back into current reality and figure out, who would be a great target....Marcus Thornton is an RFA this off-season and I highly doubt the Hornets want to spend a lot on him given their cap situation. If the Kings offered a front-loaded deal this off-season, perhaps he's one we could obtain without losing any assets this summer.

we still have the whole season to look forward to. theres the next draft also and who knows if we are still in the lottery or playoff team.. if we're in the lottery and end up w/ the #1 pick then what? so many variables and we haven't even played one game of THIS season.
 
I am ready to put passing and setup ability as a higher priority than shooting ability at this point. Offense looks unimproved from last year and is fugly without Beno. If Cousins is going to be a big part of the future, we need another guard who will get him the ball.
 
We aren't like to find an "ideal fit" next to Tyreke. Good guards that aren't undersized, aren't ball dominant, can defend either guard position really well, and have a really good outside shot just aren't very common. So what you do is look around and try to find a player with as many of the positives you want with as few of the negatives as you can. Since this team is still extremely young and has some trade assets and at least one more lottery pick coming, it can afford to be patient.

One of the guys I was sort of hoping to see the Kings make a run at via trade, Jeryd Bayless, was traded to the Hornets for a conditional future 1st. I really liked him when he came out in the draft. He is still a work in progress and didn't get a ton of minutes to develop with during his time with the Blazers. Not ideal size, but he plays really solid defense and has a streaky outside shot that I think will get better over time. I wouldn't have given up next years first for him, but I would have given up a 2012 top-10 protected 1st for him.

No way should you give a top 10 protected lottery pick for a mediocre role player like Bayless. That's just awful.

one of the reasons why he was traded was because he doesn't really have range on his shot and his defense was spotty. hes a combo guard. don't we already have one in beno?
 
What do you guys think of Tyler Honeycut from UCLA as a compliment SG/SF for Tyreke. He was pretty nice last year for a bad Bruins team, did everything score/pass/rebound/Defense as a freshman. I think he'll be take a step up this year.

I'd like to see more from him this year, but he could potentially be a great wing defender and be available in the middle picks of the draft, where we're likely to be.

I doubt we are going to be in the middle of the draft (more likely mid to late lottery) but maybe we'll move around a little and pick up some additional assets.

I think Malcolm Lee will be more of a 1/2 combo at the NBA level, which wouldn't necessarily be a bad pairing with Tyreke, but I haven't been particularly thrilled with his ability to run an offense, and I don't have a lot of confidence in his outside shot. Honeycutt is more of a straight-up wing, swinging between the 2/3 positions, great rebounder, but definitely not a PG. It kind of depends on need, but Honeycutt probably turns out to be the better player. Both should be good defenders and both probably end up being role players, though, so neither guy should be a disaster in the high teens.
 
Anyone think Matt Barnes could compliment Tyreke well? Rotates in defense well, has good size, can hit the open 3, unselfish. Too bad hes with the lakers though.
 
I haven't been impressed by either of the UCLA wing forwards. They're both decent all-around players at the college level but I'm not convinced either one is going to stick as a pro. If we're looking at drafting a SG to fit into the starting lineup, I would steer clear of those two guys and the myriad undersized combo guards in the freshman class and look at Alec Burks from Colorado. Of course there's a full season of college basketball to go before the draft so there's plenty of time to get a better look at these guys.
