I took this goofy personality test back in college, but recently spent a few days with some consultants really studying different personality types so I can learn how to better communicate to more customers in my business.

I found it quite interesting actually and it has helped me both in business and to better understand a few nutty people in my life. Also good for communication with spouse and kids.

Anyway, I'd be quite interested in what everybody is here on KF.

You can take the test online. You'll get 4 letters as a result and then will be able to read further about your temperament, what careers you might be drawn to, etc. There are no better or worse types, just different ways you look at life.

They are:
I or E (introverted or extroverted)
N or S (intuitive or sensing. Basically a "here and now" person or a big picture person)
T or F (make decisions by thinking or feeling)
P or J (perceiving or judging. see things in shades of grey or black and white)

Here's the test:
http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTYpes2.asp

I made this a poll, but because the poll limit is 10 items, just enter your last 3 letters you get, but would love to see the whole thing in your post. I'm going out on a limb and assuming most people on a message board are introverts

My results came back as

INTJ (mastermind or scientist)

I'm a bit of a tricky type. A fellow INTJ built a site so other people could understand us, which I found quite funny and a little too true.

Although I've never met any of the mods on this board, based on their posts only I'm going to guess

VF21: ?SF?
Brick: INT?
Slim Citrus: ?STJ

All in good fun...I'd be curious to see if I'm right. :D

Interesting... According to the results,

Guardian Portrait of the Provider (ESFJ)

Providers take it upon themselves to insure the health and welfare of those in their care, but they are also the most sociable of all the Guardians, and thus are the great nurturers of social institutions such as schools, churches, social clubs, and civic groups. Providers are very likely more than ten percent of the population, and this is fortunate for the rest of us, because friendly social service is a key to their nature. Wherever they go, Providers happily give their time and energy to make sure that the needs of others are met, and that social functions are a success.

Highly cooperative themselves, Providers are skilled in maintaining teamwork among their helpers, and are also tireless in their attention to the details of furnishing goods and services. They make excellent chairpersons in charge of dances, banquets, class reunions, charity fund-raisers, and the like. They are without peer as masters of ceremonies, able to speak publicly with ease and confidence. And they are outstanding hosts or hostesses, knowing everyone by name, and seemingly aware of what everyone's been doing. Providers love to entertain, and are always concerned about the needs of their guests, wanting to make sure that all are involved and provided for.

Friendly, outgoing, neighborly - in a word, Providers are gregarious, so much so that they can become restless when isolated from people. They love to talk with others, and will often strike up a conversation with strangers and chat pleasantly about any topic that comes to mind. Friendships matter a great deal to Providers, and their conversations with friends often touch on good times from years past. Family traditions are also sacred to them, and they carefully observe birthdays and anniversaries. In addition, Providers show a delightful fascination with news of their friends and neighbors. If we wish to know what's been going on in the local community, school, or church, they're happy to fill us in on all the details.

Providers are extremely sensitive to the feelings of others, which makes them perhaps the most sympathetic of all the types, but which also leaves them somewhat self-conscious, that is, highly sensitive to what others think of them. Loving and affectionate themselves, they need to be loved in return. In fact, Providers can be crushed by personal criticism, and are happiest when given ample appreciation both for themselves personally and for the tireless service they give to others.

William Howard Taft, Barbara Walters, J C Penney, Ray Kroc, Louis B. Mayer, Sam Walton, Dolley Madison, and Dave Thomas are examples of Provider Guardians.

Interesting... According to the results,
Awesome. Thanks for sharing!

Your "here and now" and "feeling" comes though in a major way in what you write about in your posts.

I have some ESFJs very close to me and this really helped me to understand where then come from....which just happens to be almost completely different than me. :D

I was honestly more than a little surprised. The results are a lot closer than I would have expected. Now, according to the profile, you all need to give me a big hug.

I took the actual Myers-Briggs test in college and around age 30. I'd like to see if I can find them and compare. On this test I came up INFJ or Introverted, iNtuitive, Feeling, Judging. Most of the description sounded close, except for some mention of charisma. Not sure what I answered that suggested that, but I have zero charisma. :p

Strength of the preferences % 56 50 12 72

The 72? I'm definitely not a spontaneous person as a rule. It shocks those who know me when I do something spontaneous.

You are:
  • moderately expressed introvert [I'd say more than moderately]
  • moderately expressed intuitive personality
  • slightly expressed feeling personality
  • distinctively expressed judging personality
Beneath the quiet exterior, INFJs hold deep convictions about the weightier matters of life. Those who are activists -- INFJs gravitate toward such a role -- are there for the cause, not for personal glory or political power.

INFJs are champions of the oppressed and downtrodden. They often are found in the wake of an emergency, rescuing those who are in acute distress. INFJs may fantasize about getting revenge on those who victimize the defenseless. The concept of 'poetic justice' is appealing to the INFJ.

"There's something rotten in Denmark." Accurately suspicious about others' motives, INFJs are not easily led. These are the people that you can rarely fool any of the time. Though affable and sympathetic to most, INFJs are selective about their friends. Such a friendship is a symbiotic bond that transcends mere words.

INFJs have a knack for fluency in language and facility in communication. In addition, nonverbal sensitivity enables the INFJ to know and be known by others intimately.

Writing, counseling, public service [bingo!] and even politics are areas where INFJs frequently find their niche.

Thanks. Would be interested to hear if you changed slightly or not over that time.

I dug out my old results to from 15 years ago. I went from a slight P to a slight J and everything else the same.

I've taken these tests before, I'm typically an INTP, but cross over to INFP sometimes. This makes sense to me, as I can be either depending on what the situation calls for.

I got a kick out of the careers for an INTP:

philosopher, game designer, scientist, software engineer, freelance artist, research scientist, assassin, freelance writer, physicist, software developer, mathmetician, geologist, computer scientist, philosophy professor, webmaster, slacker, medical researcher, painter, mortician, systems analyst, comic book artist, computer technician, website designer, scholar, archeologist, computer repair, forensic anthropologist, astronaut, researcher, historian, systems engineer, genetics researcher, astronomer, enviromental scientist, egyptologist
Well, I'm a business student and a musician. I guess I've missed my calling. ;)

I took it a few years ago and need to see if the results match. One of my biggest problems is determining if I'm an introvert or an extrovert because I have tendencies of both. But otherwise I am the exact opposite of my wife which struck me as kind of funny.

My wife is a total "life of the party" type but she tests as an introvert which I thought was weird. I learned more about the I/E distinction and it has more to do with where you get your energy. Do you recharge by being around people or being alone? So even though my wife is super charming at parties, she's exhausted at the end and ready to go home and relax - making her more of an introvert.

INFJ - Idealist Counselor.

Scores = 44, 25, 12, 33

I have a disclaimer: I have taken this test before and came up with a different result. I don't remember what that was though.

It says I should pursue teaching, law, counseling, design, or science (good thing because I'm studying to become a teacher).

Famous people like me are Carl Jung, Ghandi, Mother Theresa, Nelson Mandela, John Calvin and Nicole Kidman.

Thoughts?

Yes, I had a big discussion with the person at the seminar about it, and the energy thing came up. And that's why I concluded I was an extrovert because I get energy when I'm around others. Its just that sometimes I am shy and I can get uncomfortable when I am not connecting with anybody in a room. But when I go into basement mode I pretty much am in full scale hibernation.

I've scoffed at this for years (contempt prior to investigation) but just now finally took it for the first time.

I've been wrong to mock it. It was pretty dead on, and interesting.

INFP. Stong I, moderate on the others. Pretty fair assessment - and interesting to me because basically as soon as I was able to read I said I wanted to grow up to be a philosopher (didn't make it).

I initially got ESTJ, but the J is wrong, I changed one answer and went from a 1 J to an 11 P. It is interesting because while I am deadline driven professionally that is largely a result of my fly by the seat of my pants personality in general. I was an ESTP when tested before.

The really interesting thing though was that ESTJ intersected a lot of my career paths - restaurant management, nursing and education. Though ESTP intersects a lot of what I have envisioned myself over the years - entrepreneur, marketing.

Also my score was moderate e, slight everything else. I think that is because a seeming majority of the questions centered on E/I here.

Oh, and I answered the poll with the first result by mistake rather than what I have scored in the past and the result I got after changing one answer on this test.

INTJ

Introverted: 44
Intuitive: 38
Thinking: 25
Judging: 22

The "mastermind" name is embarrassing, but the rest of the description is pretty spot on. My career is on their short list, too.

I'm an ENTP/ENTJ.

I took this test twice. Once in high school, and once in Grad School, and I got almost the same result both times. I guess my personality can change a little bit :).

I'm an INTJ tonight.

I've taken this many times and in many different formats. I'm always either an INTJ or INFP (never INFJ or INTP), and the only thing I can figure is that it must depend on my mood when I'm answering the questions.

Hmmm...

ISFJ - Protectors

We are lucky that Protectors make up as much as ten percent the population, because their primary interest is in the safety and security of those they care about - their family, their circle of friends, their students, their patients, their boss, their fellow-workers, or their employees. Protectors have an extraordinary sense of loyalty and responsibility in their makeup, and seem fulfilled in the degree they can shield others from the dirt and dangers of the world. Speculating and experimenting do not intrigue Protectors, who prefer to make do with time-honored and time-tested products and procedures rather than change to new. At work Protectors are seldom happy in situations where the rules are constantly changing, or where long-established ways of doing things are not respected. For their part, Protectors value tradition, both in the culture and in their family. Protectors believe deeply in the stability of social ranking conferred by birth, titles, offices, and credentials. And they cherish family history and enjoy caring for family property, from houses to heirlooms.

Wanting to be of service to others, Protectors find great satisfaction in assisting the downtrodden, and can deal with disability and neediness in others better than any other type. They are not as outgoing and talkative as the Provider Guardians [ESFJs], and their shyness is often misjudged as stiffness, even coldness, when in truth Protectors are warm-hearted and sympathetic, giving happily of themselves to those in need.

Their reserve ought really to be seen as an expression of their sincerity and seriousness of purpose. The most diligent of all the types, Protectors are willing to work long, hard hours quietly doing all the thankless jobs that others manage to avoid. Protectors are quite happy working alone; in fact, in positions of authority they may try to do everything themselves rather than direct others to get the job done. Thoroughness and frugality are also virtues for them. When Protectors undertake a task, they will complete it if humanly possible. They also know better than any other type the value of a dollar, and they abhor the squandering or misuse of money. To save, to put something aside against an unpredictable future, to prepare for emergencies-these are actions near and dear to the Protector's heart. For all these reasons, Protectors are frequently overworked, just as they are frequently misunderstood and undervalued. Their contributions, and also their economies, are often taken for granted, and they rarely get the gratitude they deserve.

ENFPs have what some call a "silly switch." They can be intellectual, serious, all business for a while, but whenever they get the chance, they flip that switch and become CAPTAIN WILDCHILD, the scourge of the swimming pool, ticklers par excellence. Som etimes they may even appear intoxicated when the "switch" is flipped.

Hmm.. Pretty close.

I scored ENFJ (Idealist Teacher)
-Extroverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Judging.

Makes sense, since I am currently a 4th Grade After School Teacher and also want to go into full time Ministry. :p

Even more than the other Idealists, Teachers have a natural talent for leading students or trainees toward learning, or as Idealists like to think of it, they are capable of calling forth each learner's potentials. Teachers (around two percent of the population) are able - effortlessly, it seems, and almost endlessly-to dream up fascinating learning activities for their students to engage in. In some Teachers, this ability to fire the imagination can amount to a kind of genius which other types find hard to emulate. But perhaps their greatest strength lies in their belief in their students. Teachers look for the best in their students, and communicate clearly that each one has untold potential, and this confidence can inspire their students to grow and develop more than they ever thought possible.

In whatever field they choose, Teachers consider people their highest priority, and they instinctively communicate personal concern and a willingness to become involved. Warmly outgoing, and perhaps the most expressive of all the types, Teachers are remarkably good with language, especially when communicating in speech, face to face. And they do not hesitate to speak out and let their feelings be known. Bubbling with enthusiasm, Teachers will voice their passions with dramatic flourish, and can, with practice, become charismatic public speakers. This verbal ability gives Teachers a good deal of influence in groups, and they are often asked to take a leadership role.

Teachers like things settled and organized, and will schedule their work hours and social engagements well ahead of time-and they are absolutely trustworthy in honoring these commitments. Valuing as they do interpersonal cooperation and harmonious relations, Teachers are extraordinarily tolerant of others, are easy to get along with, and are usually popular wherever they are.

Teachers are highly sensitive to others, which is to say their intuition tends to be well developed. Certainly their insight into themselves and others is unparalleled. Without a doubt, they know what is going on inside themselves, and they can read other people with uncanny accuracy. Teachers also identify with others quite easily, and will actually find themselves picking up the characteristics, emotions, and beliefs of those around them. Because they slip almost unconsciously into other people's skin in this way, Teachers feel closely connected with those around them, and thus show a sincere interest in the joys and problems of their employees, colleagues, students, clients, and loved ones.

* slightly expressed feeling personality
* slightly expressed perceiving personality

I am in the same class as Elvis! WOOOOOO!

This totally fits me..

"ISFPs may be quite charming and ingratiating on first acquaintance, flowing with compliments which may (or may not) be deserved. On other occasions, the same individual may be aloof and detached. Some ISFP males are fiercely competitive, especially in sport or table games, and may have great difficulty losing. This competitive nature, also seen in other SP types, sometimes fosters 'lucky,' 'gut' feelings and a willingness to take risks."

I think that's why I am still single.. I am really good at first, but then I get bored and become despondent with the person I am dating lol.

Infj

I am an INFJ, through and through. I am just about as introverted as they come; however, with the type of personality mix that I am, I come across as being extroverted to most people. I'm an idealist by nature with a huge dream to influence this world for the better. I also love studying people, and these tests are pretty fun as well as fairly accurate....
