Look this is me.... Passin up the Bowlin Party.
I didn't go last year, but it got mixed reviews. Some said the Bowlin was fun, but other said they didn't get a chance to see all the players. Couldn't get stuff signed, and most of the time the players were talkin among themselves.

I would say give this event time. The Road Trip reception started out similarly where it felt like a 8th grade dance with the fans doing their own thing and the players doing theirs. Those have gotten WORLDS better after feedback on the first trip, they've done more since the first one to get the players more integrated and give it a tad bit more structure. Hopefully they got the feedback on last year's bowling thing and have added something to get the two sides mingling more.

Not to beat a Dead horse
But the bottom line is this...
I wanted to go. I even planned to go. Was bringing a friend with me. But then I thought about it.
Month of June Killed me. Gas is a fortune. Tolls are a strain. The Commute is a total grind. None of the STH events take Long Distance Commuters into account. They just don't. I make the sacrifice for games. But not this.
The schedule didn't just come out.
If they planned the Road Trip earlier I may have planned a vacation around it. If they planned these parties/events earlier or even took into account that a good portion of the fan base comes a long way then maybe I could have worked something. I understand that MS&E basically loans out the staff from the Kings. And believe me I appreciate that. We are lucky to have even that. But something could have been on the Books sooner.
I love my Monarchs. Even Kim Smith. But...I am not breaking my back to come to an Event where Maybe the players will interact with me. I know I can be an *** and they are humans and have their quirks. But I just do not have that luxury. Nor do I have the time to waste. Too Far to be bothered.
It is the unfortunate truth. And MS&E just doesn't not get that.
So I miss the Meet the Monarchs, I miss most of the pre game stuff cause I have to work, and I will miss the MVP party.
But... if I shell out a little more money right before the play-offs when the renewals and play-off money is due I may get to spend time with the team. MAYBE...
We have an early game and It would have been really cool for the Long distance folks, if we could have had something after that game where the players wouldn't be up late. It is not like we wouldn't be missing a day of work anyway. In fact most people will be off work for the Day game.
I do realize that not all of these events are suitable for everyone and at some point someone gets left out. I hear every year that there will be plenty of events. Just seems like few/if any events take commuters into consideration.
So My only response is that I can't attend this stuff. I am not killing myself to try anymore. And it may result in my scaling down my package to a 10 game. Cause there is no benefit to being a STH if you don't live right in the Sac area.
I do hope the people that attend have an Awesome time. I hope you get everything you want signed and I hope you get a few minutes with your favorite players.

The San Jose efforts have been twarted a few times by MS&E. They claim in breaks into their market.
I personally know of 3 outfits who have attempted to contact the league. More than enough money in the Silicon Valley and more than enough Soccer Moms and Stepford Wives to garner the market the WNBA is looking for.
The reality is if the league is gonna grow, they have to get into that market. And it is only a matter of time.
It doesn't change my effection for the M's. I will always love them. But I would think that MS&E would definately make a concerted effort to organize events that maximumize fan loyality. Good Lord if you come from the Bay, you are already making a major commitment to begin with. And I am just talking about the Bay Area commuters. What about our folks coming from the Valley or North?
Steven comes from Petuluma I believe. DWalk comes from the "831". My former seat mates come from Oakland. Now when I began this STH thing, 4 years ago. Toll was 2 bucks, gas was 1.80, traffic was bad but still somewhat do able.
Now it is virtually impossible unless I am off work to get to a game early. So much for any MVP perks. No Dinner with Donna. No fan surveys. And if you are a collector no autographs.
So Why is this relavant to this thread... Because the MVP events are the few times people in my position can get time with the players. I realize I signed on for this knowing the distance I had to work with. I would take off work early, or work night shifts to accomodate my Monarchs habit. But I can no longer afford that.
And when folks like 6th say it is inconvient. And she tries to get to everything, I would think MS&E needs to re examine MVP priorities. I am done begging. Hopefully the new website they are building will have a survey option where they can actually poll the STH's and ask what we would like.
My final 50 cents on the topic.

Hey Luv13fan...just curious, have you ever voiced your concerns with your ticket rep. or with Danette L.? Maybe if you all, from out of town can get together and talk to MS&E ,,,,See what can happen for you all.
Thats a true commitment driving in on game days & having to miss events...that would frustrate me.

I won't say I'd doubt they'd do events in the bay area because they sorta have in the past, they used to at least table at events in the bay area to sell tickets to folks. I sat behind Ticha at the Pac-10 Tournament one afternoon the year she stayed stateside and made an appearance at a pre-game reception. But as much travel as these player do already, I'm hard pressed to see them bussing them outside the Sacramento metro area for an event.
They really don't need to do online surveys. I get surveyed already up the wazoo year round and the head of season ticket services has given anybody who wants it his email address and telephone number. I don't think I've been to an event where he hasn't given out his business card. And we all have reps. If there is anybody who is NOT taking advantage of the pipeline we have as season ticketholders to actually talk to someone about issues then that's not because it hasn't been made available by MS&E.
That being said...personally, I don't want to be asked what I want or think any more, I want them to actually listen to and act on things they've heard and follow through on what they've said is going to happen according to their planning. They had said earlier in 2007 at a feedback event I attended, that they had their MVP events already planned for the season and we'd know about them before the season started. Well...that didn't happen. I know they get the feedback EVERY year that more notice about their planned events is necessary if they want people to actually show up to them.
And FYI...it aint always a cakewalk for the locals to make these events either so we don't necessarily have it easier. A weekend event and something during the week that starts later than 5 is about all I can ask for at this point beyond the recurring mantra that they need to give folks more notice on stuff.

If David Stern decides he wants a team in the Bay Area, it will have a team regardless of what MS&E wants. I haven't checked recently, but the last time I did I thought the SF/BA was the largest TV market the W didn't have a team in besides Chicago. They may decide to let some other smaller markets get teams and let MS&E balk because they now have Chicago, but I doubt that lasts long if this league wants to grow long term and get more national corporate money infused into it. It makes no sense. With as fast as the valley is growing, MS&E might want to focus more there anyway and stop claiming rights to places over a 100 miles away.

Very good points MBF...I have always appreciated the voice MS&E have given us. They really do want to please the fans & keep as many posiible in the MVP status. With that being said, theres always room for improvement.

To answer your question NBH... Yes...Danette is on Speed Dial and My rep doesn't even ask for my account number anymore. To Miss Danette's credit, She is the "Get **** Done Diva." If there is wiggle room she makes it happen.
E.g. The DeMya e-mail thing. I suggested that and she made that happen very quickly. I like my sales rep... but in the end she has to go to Miss Danette for approval so if it is about something she needs to aproval why go thru the middle man. When they do something that Rocks, I make it a point to hit Miss Danette up and let her know. But I have asked and they do what they do. So why keep on asking?
MBF- Agree to everything you said. I know it is not always easy for the locals either. So just try to compound that by 50-100 miles of traffic. Toll Bridges and 1/2 a tank of gas. Every single game.

But the reality is the assumption that if they put something out there, bam people should be able to get there. In terms of talking to your rep, what are they gonna tell you that is different than what you have heard before? Most people are not as persistant and obnoxious as me about voicing an opinion. It doesn't make it any less pressing. And it does get implied that we should just "get over it if we can't make events, cause at least they put events out there" or "If you want better access go on the Road Trip." No matter how difficult that may be for some. Well that does beg the question. What does my STH's dollar buy for me? What extra incentive do I have other than to have a guarenteed seat?

Preferable a Sunday game when the game should end around 8, or an afternoon game. For those who can't get to the pre-game stuff. Actaully that does sound like an awesome Idea. Selffish as it may be. It would be nice for the people who don't get the regular opportunities to go to have ONE Freakin event where they can see the team.
I can see it now... A name tag... Name, city, distance traveled to go to games. And number of games attended. The players can get a sense of what type of commitment people make to support them.
But that mindset pits us against one another. Like OT-STH's are more important than Local STH's or vise versa. I am not saying that one is more important than the other. What I am saying is that it is a voice that gets lost in the shuffle. And not to belabor the obvious, financially we lose a lot more in transit to games than the cost of the game itself. And that gets overlooked and minimized quite a bit.
End of the Day...We are ALL fans. We all love the Monarchs. And we all probably can never get enough time with them. But those of us who do. And I include myself in that catagory because I have in the past, really ought to be mindful of the people who don't get as many opportunities as us. I have actually made an effort to encourage people I haven't seen to go down to the floor and chat up the players.
We should work together to make everyones experience the best Not just our own. Again... Not a Local v. Commuter STH thing.

I'm not making it a local thing vs an out of town thing. I get that. I've been a season ticketholder of the A's and the Sabercats, so I've done the opposite commute to make that financial commitment make sense and I didn't get the full advantage of the meet and greets with those franchises as a result of that. The player appearances for both those teams I sunk money into were all in the bay area as were the season ticket holder gigs. So I can say from personal experience I get the parking, gas and tolls piece. I met folks at an event earlier this year who haul it to every Monarchs game from Oregon, I sat with people years ago who came in from Reno. I'm sure MS&E gets it how spread out their ST base is and perhaps even their fanbase in general.
The feedback things should be related to your section, or at least that was my understanding of it. If you aren't on the contact list for those...call or email Phil and let him know. He's also at every game.
They got feedback on the MVP trip at the events they hosted earlier this year. They seemingly had decided on a city (not the one we're headed to) because NOBODY wanted another trip to LA. We were supposed to get info earlier so that folks could plan. I don't know if at subsequent mtgs with STHs the other city got shot down too, but we're now headed to Phx. The bowling thing was a resounding YES at the mtg I attended, which must have been echoed because they've scheduled one again as I guess were the viewing parties.
They need better communication and follow through, but the feedback loop exists. They even stuck a survey in the renewal package we just received.

They got feedback on the MVP trip at the events they hosted earlier this year. They seemingly had decided on a city (not the one we're headed to) because NOBODY wanted another trip to LA. We were supposed to get info earlier so that folks could plan. I don't know if at subsequent mtgs with STHs the other city got shot down too, but we're now headed to Phx. The bowling thing was a resounding YES at the mtg I attended, which must have been echoed because they've scheduled one again as I guess were the viewing parties.
They need better communication and follow through, but the feedback loop exists. They even stuck a survey in the renewal package we just received.

You are assuming a few things and I can't understand why.
1) That I did not contact my sales rep or Phil Mac.
Wrong... I have stated in this thread that I have a strong and personal relationship with my sales rep, Phil and Danette. So to imply that I have not taken the steps in is a little misleading.
2) Because the people at your event loved the Bowling party Idea that Schlepting to Rocklin was something that worked out.
That is a flawed premise for a couple of reasons. If the Same people get the same opportunity to weigh in, then you are preaching to the Choir. Preach to the Choir, you get the same song. And there in lies my real issue. I know there are some differences but the generally the same people get the same opportunities.
Finally, I didn't say that MS&E doesn't try.
Just that they don't get it. And saying that you think they get it and understand doesn't make it so. In light of the Gas and economic demand of the last 2 years I would think they would ask us. Especially since most of the people who make the long commute have voice this as concerns.
You have voiced concerns and they were met. Or at least addressed.
We keep on E-mailing and bringing up stuff and doesn't get addressed.

You assume I said something I didn't. The question was where did the info about the feedback forums come from. Phil sets those up. If folks aren't being contacted about those or don't know about them, he's the one to ask about them. From what he said, they scheduled several of them during the offseason. I got the invite via my rep so I guessed that's how they were grouping people. That's why I suggested contacting reps and the rep's boss.
I also said I feel the commute thing because I've done it too. I'm not arguing anything. I made the comparison between the two because they are similar in that what gets planned doesn't always fit my schedule or ability to make extra trips to the bay area. If another conclusion was drawn for why I said it I can't control that.
Nobody asked for them to pick a place in Rocklin as far as I know. The question was "did you like the bowling party." I thought I simply said that everybody in the room liked the bowling party they did last year and I further assumed from the fact that they scheduled one that the other groups that met also liked it too. Rocklin isn't next door to where I live, so not sure I would have voted to drive way the hell out there from where I live if given a choice. If I wanted to be selfish and ask them to schedule stuff that benefits me, I would have loved for them to have stayed where they had the thing last year because it's 15 minutes away instead of a 30-45 minutes each way.
I've not said anything here that I haven't told them either on their surveys or in person both positively and not so positively, so I certainly don't feel like I'm bashing MS&E. I've asked them to follow through and to communicate better and more timely. And when they do something well, then yes. I'm going to say so. They are aware that they plan stuff and not everybody attends. That question was asked of the group as well. "What would help make our events something you'd want to or could come to" I spoke my piece about the timing of things. Hell yeah it sucks coming from out of town. but until there's a bay area team with a DeMya Walker on the roster, I have to suck it up, get on that greyhound bus 7.5 hours before gametime and do it that way. sad day 4 me, but what can I do. I guess I'll just have to wait till I move my behind out to Sac when college is over with.
I'm not deluded enough to think an event in the bay area would actually happen, but a boy can dream... Blue-sky thinking and all that...

I remember reading an article in the San Francisco Chronicle back in 2005. In that article, the WNBA (then led by Val Ackerman) contacted some possible investors in the San Jose area two years earlier (2003), shortly after the '03 WNBA season ended and the Gund family said that they were no longer going to operate the Cleveland Rockers franchise. So, the WNBA were desperately looking for buyers in other cities to buy the Rockers team. However, those potential investors (who were not named in the article) asked how much it would cost to pay for an existing WNBA team. When the league said that it would cost $10 million for the rights to run a team, the investors declined. Also, the article mentioned that the NBA's Golden State Warriors wasn't interested in running a WNBA team.
Eventually, the WNBA still couldn't find a buyer for the Rockers, so the franchise folded. A shame, because of all the WNBA teams that have folded, the Rockers probably had the most talent. Quite a number of those ex-Rockers are still playing!
Anyway, but as long as the Monarchs are the only WNBA team in Northern California (including the Bay Area and most of the Central Valley), I don't see a problem with MS&E doing any kind of outreach to those areas. Now, if there ever were a WNBA team somewhere in the Bay Area, then I could see how that might pose a problem. Hell, they should even go for the Reno/Tahoe market, if that were practical.
As they say, "If you got it, flaunt it!" We got the Monarchs; they should flaunt them!
