Mustafa Shakur Waived -- Hello Beno Udrih?

he couldnt control the ball to save his life

They brought him in for his ball handling skills and his control of the game, yet he showed the complete opposite in the preseason games.

yeah. i also heard on Fox40 Jim Crandell said that we waived him, but tomorrow possibly, once he is waived, sign beno udrich. not too bad of a move. Knows how to handle the ball at least.

Okay, interesting on two fronts.

1) I actually mentioned in the Grades thread that the awful PG performance tonight might inspire Geoff to bring in a FA. And this would follow -- can Shakur, bring in a more experienced hand.

2) the other possibilty is that this could be freeing a roster space for a trade that's about to be announced.

No surprise about Shakur.

Udrih isn't either very young or very good, but if what we're looking for is an alternative to Orien Greene, I guess he will do.

I am so sad.

He didn't get time as Greene in the preseason.

He is still my favorite wildcats. Best of luck for Staf!

It sounds like we're pretty much out of that deal. While it was confirmed that the Kings had talked with the Bulls and Lakers, the article today by Chris Sheridan talks about the Lakers and Bulls working out a deal between themselves and no one else.

The only time the Kings were mentioned is when they were talking about Deng's contract extension that didn't come to terms, and they were stating how Sacramento committed to Kevin Martin a player at a similar point in his career as Deng.

Hello Beno Udrih

Maybe he can have Jason Hart's old locker.

Point guard help on the way

The folks in Sacramento know that Mustafa Shakur was waived, but not anywhere else.

Per the routine rigors of producing a daily newspaper, a note was omitted from the online version of Kings notes that reported the late waiving of Mustafa Shakur after the Kings' loss to New Orleans on Wednesday night. The rookie point guard out of Arizona was waived, it turns out, to make way for free agent point guard

Beno Udrih. Udrih is the best of the options available and feasible, with John Lucas III and Keith McLeod being considered after the likes of Gary Payton and Earl Boykins were either bypassed or uninterested. David Wesley became available, but his health is a major concern, and it's been months since a Bobby Jackson reunion was a possibility.

Word is that Udrih - a free agent from Slovenia who played his first three seasons in San Antonio - is headed Sacramento's way. His agent, Marc Cornstein, wouldn't confirm it but certainly seemed encouraged.

"I think Sacramento would provide an excellent opportunity and I know they've always expressed interest in Beno," Cornstein said. - Sam Amick

^^

He seriously sucks. There's a reason why guys like Jacque Vaughn and Darius Washington are ahead of him.

I actually like the guy but then he's been surrounded by a heck of a team. All I know is the guy can penetrate a little bit and better yet, hit an outside shot. Has 3-point range which this team really needs. I like the pickup for now.

"The trade, Jackson said, would have sent forward Kenny Thomas to New Orleans and Jackson and guard Rasual Butler to the Kings. As it was, it went nowhere. Some months later, the same could be said for the Kings."

Well damn. Just damn. It really does suck that our players have all the trade value of a loaf of moldy bread.

Second time we have tried to foist Kenny off onto the Hornets -- as I recall we tried to swap him for Jamaal Magloire a couple of years back too. Geoff must think they are the one patsy organization in the entire league who likes him. Of course I rather suspect this conversation went, Geoff:"Hey guys, I had this great idea involving Kenny Thomas and..." Hornets:*click*

Beno Udrih, career stats (3yrs):

13.0min 5.2pts (.420 .352 .799) 1.0reb 1.8ast 0.4stl 0.0blk 0.9TO

And the career stats are good enough, because he was very consistent every season and put up nearly identical numbers each year. Some of what that tells you is that he's probably not getting much better and just is what he is. A few years back I thought he had his moments as the Spurs' backup. As a starter? Well it couldn't get much worse for us at this point I suppose.

^^^I am pretty sure that Miller will be hurt and in street clothes before Artest is back...you can add that to the list.

We stink man.

So what's the scouting report on Beno?

Hmm...somebody had posted it but deleted their post for some reason.

Anyway, this is what hoopshype says:

fundamentally sound player... Plays under control... Good knowledge
of the game... Good passer... Struggles with physical play...
Mediocre defender and three-point shooter.

Which as hoopshype scouting reports go isn't bad. Normally they feel compelled to make every player sound like Jordan. Think Udrih could best be described as yes, fundamentally sound, and a system player. Not a creative guy, or one on one guy or any of that. Just somebody who knows how to play nad play a role. Not actually very well suited for our chaos, but the sort of solid guy who can bring the ball up and get it to the right guy and then get the hell out of the way. He will also politely get the hell out of the way of the opposing team's PG on defense as well.

RealGM inform 2 days ago, that Beno Udrich was traded to Minny for 2008 second round pic. How we can get him ?

I have this impression that Udrih is pretty injury-prone himself. I remember he missed a lot of time while playing in Europe and suffered another injury that made him missed time two seasons ago. And I also believe he was playing with some nagging injury that caused him to have a terrible year last season. He also suffered a hand injury in the preseason. It'll be funny if we sign him and then he goes down shortly after. Funny in a sad sorta way of course.

Btw, how is his injured hand? Is he ready to play? He did missed the preseason. I wonder if he's in game shape.

As far as I can remember, he's left handed, big, but not very quick. More of a shoot-first PG. Most people believe he should be better than he displayed in San Antonio. That he just doesn't get the Spurs' system. I guess we'll see.

Might as well sign him for minimum. He is much better than what we have right now. I don't think we have a PG that can even run a team on the roster right now.

Three point range remains to be seen. As a rookie, he shot a scary 40+ percent from 3 range, but it dropped each of the following years, and by last year was a modest 28.7%. His overall FG percentage also dropped from the mid-40s to 36.9% last year. I have no idea why his shooting has deteriorated like that, but I hope it's reversible.

Ok, I made the somewhat shaky decision to merge the Shakur and Udrih threads since they both seemed to be dovetailing around separate discussions of Udrih's talent (or lack thereof).

Apologies, if any are needed.
