I figured since this is a lounge area which is open to anything, I wanted to know if anyone has seen any good movies lately, in the theatre or on dvd. If you have then maybe tell us how you like it. Hopefully this can be a very loooong subject that everyone can reply to.

I recently watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, now i wasn't too excited to see this movie at first, but i am one of those people that really get into weird movies that aren't understandable the first time through (have to watch them a second time) and this was definitely one of those movies, and it was surprisingly very, very good. I actually think that i am going to go out and buy it today. Jim Carrey really did a great job this time through as a dramatic actor, and Kate Winslet was also very good. The story although confusing at times is very sad. But you have to watch it, it's a must see.

If anyone has already watched it i'd like to hear their opinions.

I watched the same film, but not in one sitting, which was a mistake. The continuity got screwed up because of this. But it was an excellent movie. I also saw 'Taking Lives' a couple of weekends ago. Good movie, suspenseful and twists.

I watched Man on Fire recently. I wanted to see it when it was out in theaters but it got such bad reviews, I passed. I thought it was pretty good. Lots of violence but good flic.

If you like scary movies, I recommend The Grudge. I also rented the Japanese version of The Grudge, called Ju-On. Both are really scary!!

I just watched that recently too and thought it was a great movie. I think this is one of Jim Carrey's better performances in a serious role. He was good in "The Truman Show" as well. I wasn't expecting much at first either but that sometimes makes a brilliant movie esp when there isn't much hype around it.

Another good movie that I saw recently was "The Life of David Gale," it's a bit twisted but definately check it out if you haven't seen it.

"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" is excellent. Now the directing in that movie is pretty original (it's Gondry's first major film, his music videos are outstanding), but if you like the same type of mood and "weirdness" look up anything written by Charlie Kaufman, and especially "Being John Malkovich".

The movie that I watched lately that really blew my mind was "Brazil". It's an older Terry Gilliam movie, but definitely worth seeing.

The best movie I've seen by far this year is an Italian film called "I'm Not Scared." Absolute MASTERPIECE.

Hey, gina, I'm still to see that movie, but it's by the same guy who did Mediterraneo.
Make sure you check that out as well.

i most recently saw the incredibles. that was a great movie. ok this is going to sound really lame, but i was only semi intrested in it, the main reason i went and saw it the day it came out was for the star wars 3 trailer. i was totally going to watch the movie ( there are some SW fans who would watch the trailer and leave, i'm not that bad :D) and i LOVED it. oh it was so cool.

it had great humor, and was just tons of fun.

i HIGHLY recommend it.

as for rentals hmmm. the last movie i rented was "love actually" and i LOVED that BIG TIME. and i don't watch romantic comedies. it's a great one to cuddle up and watch in cold weather :)

Hiya sloter!
I saw Mediterraneo. I really enjoyed it. You're in for a real treat with "I'm not scared."

City of God is amazing. I'm a big fan of the gangster-style movies, and this is basically a more up-tempo Boyz N the Hood based around Brazilian culture. It seems over-the-top at first, until you realize it's a true story.

Recently i went and watched SAW and the Incredibles.

First, SAW...i really didn't want to go and see this movie, because i thought it was going to be a lame new age horror film like the grudge,(sorry for whoever liked that movie) but this movie was more of a mystery/very suspensful film like SEVEN which is such a damn good movie if you have never watched it. The story was kinda "iffy" at first but i really got into it and the end had such a great twist that it kind of made up for the bad acting from Princess Bride/Robin Hood Men in Tights guy Carey Elwes, was not a believable actor in this at all. I think he needs to stick to the sarcastic funny guys in movies, he is very good at that. I ended up really liking this movie because of the story.

The incredibles, i agree with the others on here that it was very good and surprisingly was more action packed than funny, don't get me wrong the funny parts were definitely funny. EVENSTAR...i too went and was very excited about the new STAR WARS Trailer, so don't think that you were alone in that one, i am very much a nerd.

Most recent movie I saw was SAW. Amazing Flick ! I also thought it was going to be lame (a'la The Grudge) , but it turned out to be a very good movie. I liked the message that the movie sends.

I also saw Man On Fire recently, and thought that was very good also. Washington's performance in it was great.

Ooooh, I watched "Man on Fire" and LOVED it! I have yet to see a bad Denzel movie.
Watched "The Day After Tomorrow" too. We told our 12 year-old it was a true story and then had to let the cat out of the bag when it was over! :D

Don't go to the movie theater because they're too darn expensive. We just wait until they come out at the video store.

"Bus 174" is a documentary about a bus hijacking in Rio De Janeiro. I swear you'll never guess how it ends, the "twist" ending couldn't have been written by M. Night Shyamalan himself, it is just too sad to be believed.

No one is immune to a few bad movies.

Exhibit A: Ricochet

Exhibit B: Virtuosity

I rest my case.

I thought that Training Day was a terrible movie as well eventough he won an Academy Award for that one. He should have won the Oscar for The Hurricane instead.

I haven't seen either of those, and I'm sure there's a very good reason why I haven't heard of them, too.

i saw "super size me" when i was up in OR. GREAT movie. it's amazing how gross mcdonalds can be for a person. lots of very intresting information, a few gross scenes, lots of fat peoples butts.

it's a great movie, even more so for a parent with young kids.
