i thought part 3 was great. it was a little more complex, and more layered, but i liked the way it captured a man struggling with his past and his mistakes. i agree that it was no where near as good as 1 and 2, which are my first and second favorite moves, respectively, but i still thought 3 was a fantastic crime drama.

I agree with VF21 on this one.. part 3 does not compare to parts 1 or 2, not in the slightest in my opinion. I just won tickets to go to a sneak preview of the new movie 'the four brothers' on tuesday and hope its going to be good. the last sneak preview i went to was for 'open water' I was a little let down but you cant complain when your being entertained for free. I recently saw the foreign flick 'malena' with Monica Bellucci and was actually impressed with its flow.I found myself gripped by it, which i had not expected. It tells a story that is pretty sad.

Godfather part III suffers from a lack of continuity with regard to the first few films. Because the first two films are based on Puzo's original book and the third was written as a screenplay only (as far as I know) it seems a little rushed.

The absence of Tom Hagen (Robert Duvall) is annoying and Sofia Coppola's performance is absolutely horrible. She only recently made up for it in my mind with her work behind the camera on "Lost in Translation"

On its own merits, Godfather three stands in the same category (if further down the totem pole) with other also-ran mafia flicks like Casino and Goodfellas. But because it is forever measured against the first two films, it will always seem substandard in comparison.

funkykingston- you give a fair general assessment of the movie and I agree with most of what you said except sofia's redemption was earlier i felt with her work in 'the virgin suicides' and I would say part three is very far down the totem pole if in the same category as the above mentioned mafia movies. More comparable to 'the last don' imo.

i watched ice princess, it was alright. it was cute, i love ice skating, but it was a little too cliche and predictable for me. but still, it was a fun movie to watch, one of those movies to watch on a rainy day wrapped up in a big blanky with a steaming hot mug of hot chocolate :D

I saw part of a film from 1984 last night called 'Red Dawn'. I've always been curious about it. That has got to be one of the worst movies ever made. Now, there are bad movies out there that are enjoyable-the 'so bad it's good' movie mentality. And there are action/crime movies that are intentionally supposed to be kind of corny and satirical. 'Red Dawn' is neither of those! I honestly think that the filmmakers were intentionally trying to make a decent, very serious film about high-schoolers trying to defeat a Communist takeover. Yikes...

I almost watched that last night, thank god I didn't. I rented Kung Fu Hustle last night and loved it. At first, thought is was going to be more of a comedy, similiar to "kung pow". This movie had amazing action scenes in it, some of the best I've ever seen. Choreography done by same person as the matrix and crouching tiger. Check it out, shouldn't be disappointed.

I don't know if anybody's said this yet, but my fav this year is War of the Worlds. It constantly keeps you on your toes and the ending is a bit surprising! I must say, Dakota Fanning is one GREAT little actress!!!

it was interesting the first run through, but it's all eye candy. not much substance at all to it. oh well. it entertained me.

Sin City comes out on DVD tomorrow, which I already knew, and will be purchasing -- even though there will undoubtedly be a susequent release of some fancier version with even more extras that I will have to buy.

However, my giddyness level has just reached about a 10 on the richter scale because I found out that they're also releasing "The Astaire/Rogers Collection, Vol. 1" on DVD tomorrow!! Swing Time, Follow the Fleet, Top Hat, Shall We Dance and The Barkleys of Broadway. Yippee!!

anyone seen batman begins...def the best movie of t he franchise so far.

I saw Batman Begins but I thought it was really overrated. Didn't really like it. It was confusing and very entertaining. I like the otehr Batman like Batman, and Batman returns MUCH better.

I spent the longest two hours of my life today watching "Alexander." I want my two hours back.

i saw a sneak peak of the thriller " red eye" it was pretty good. i just LOVE cillian murphy ( he's the main guy) his eyes are so blue, i could stare at them for hours. i could do the same with ellijah wood's eyes too :D

anyways, the movie was alright. there were a few things i was confused about but my friend explained em to me. there were a few moments we were cracking up. i'd recommend it. and i was damn glad i didn't have to spend 10 bucks on it! i love free screenings :D

Even Angie looking quite spctacular wasn't enough to get me to see that one. I sat through Foxfire, Hackers and Playing God. Hell, I even own Playing by Heart and Original Sin, and I still refuse to see Alexander.

There is one really good scene with Angie, but other than that, she actually looks a little embarrassed a couple of times - arguably because she knew just how much this film was going to stink up the screen.

BTW? I loved the movie Hackers... ;)

What was Angelina Jolie's first movie anyway?

Sometime in the fall/winter I saw a VERY young Angelina playing in some incredibly cheesy early 90's scifi flick about androids and whatnot (she was the android) with Jack Palance co-starring (kind of) in one of his patented over the top no pride Grade Z money-grabs.

Truly a classic.

EDIT: aha! According to imdb the Oscar worthy flick was none other than "Cyborg 2" from 1993. Get your copies now folks!

EDIT 2: and yes, just checked and that was in fact Angleina's first movie role as an adult (she had one credit from 1982 when she would have been 7). Quite the way to kick off the ole career -- from Cyborg 2 to an Oscar for Gia in the space of 5 years

That is Lookin' to Get Out, and it starred her father.

Golden Globe for Gia, to be technical. One of three in a row (George Wallace, Gia and Girl, Interrupted). Still one hell of a leap.

I think the worst Angie movie I've seen (haven't seen too many of them) has to be "Taking Lives". Not only a misuse of lovely Angelina, but they also used one of my favorite U2 songs "Bad" in the opening and closing credits. Now whenever I hear that song, scenes from that crappy movie pop into my head.
