Morning Musing: Sac/CLE/ORL

Bricklayer

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Okay, normally save the made up trades for the offseason, but I liked this for a morning train doodle:

Sac Out:
Bibby $12.5mil
Brad $9.6mil
Potapenko $3.7mil (ender)
Cisco $1.1mil
-----------------
Total: $26.9mil

Sac In:
Hill $16.9 mil (ending)
Darko $5.2 mil
Arroyo $4.0 mil
Varejao $0.9mil
-----------------
Total: $27.0mil

Sac Lineup: C-Darko, PF-Varejao, SF-Artest, OG-Martin, PG-Arroyo, Bench: Hill, Reef, Salmons, KT, Corliss, Douby

Cle IN:
Bibby $12.5mil
Potapenko $3.7mil (ender)
Cisco $1.1mil
----------------
Total: $17.3mil

Cle Out:
Hughes $13.4mil
Jones $3.9mil
Varajeo $0.9mil
----------------
Total: $18.2 mil

Cle Lineup: C-Big Z, PF-Gooden, SF-James, OG-Pavlovic/Cisco, PG-Bibby, Bench: Cisco/Pavlovic, Marshall, Snow, Pollardd, Gibson, Wesley

Orl In:
Hughes $13.4mil
Brad $9.6mil
Jones $3.9mil
----------------
Total: $26.9mil

Orl Out:
Hill $16.9 mil (ending)
Darko $5.2 mil
Arroyo $4.0 mil
---------------
Total: $26.1mil

Orl Lineup: C-Miller, PF-Howard, SF-Hedo, OG-Hughes, PG-Nelson, Bench: Battie, Dooling, Ariza, Jones, Redick

So:

Sac does it: young bigs, big player in free agency, financial "flexibility". Hill is an ender, Darko will likely opt out, and Arroyo is up after next year as the iterim PG.
Sac doesn't: we don't do things like this

Cle does it: Hughes is unhappy and a poor fit, the Jones signing was a mistake, they need a shooter and true #2 scorer, and Pot's ending contract let's them liquidate Jones contract and make room for LeBron's extension. Cisco is thrown in to replace the versatile OG stuff that Hughes gave them. Looking for a playoff spark. But have to give up Varajao. Of course, may not be able to afford to keep him anyway.
Cle doesn't: OG by committee, closes one hole, opens another, frontcourt gets a bit shallow and old

Orl does it: Cashes in the Hill ender to complete their lineup with two solid vets in Brad and Hughes. Hughes holding down the OG spot and keying the defense. Brad spacing the frontcourt for Howard. Add Jones to give them the outside shooting they lack. Arroyo has also been unhappy as they have too many small PGs. Costs them Darko and their spot as a free agent player. But they seem to be saying they are willing to move Hill now, so I am thinking success has gone to their head and they are wanting to win now.
Orl doesn't: Orlando has been buildig with youth, this is win now. Hughes is something approaching a bad contract.

I like your idea;share with my idea.I think maybe two-team trade is easier.

With the Cavaliers struggling, Danny Ferry is perheps more eager than othergeneral managers to make a deadline deal.

"We have been, and will be, exploring the trade market to see if we canimprove the ball club," said Ferry. "If there is an opportunity that makes us better we will pull the trigger, but we're not going to make a trade just to mix things up."

so.....

BB & KT & Cisco for Hughes & Varejao & Marshall

^It's an interesting idea. I think the big question mark is whether Orlando would be willing to take on Hughes. Hill's injuries basically killed their franchise for the last five years, I think they're probably going to be extremely reluctant to jeopardize their cap by taking on someone as injury prone as Hughes. I think Sacramento would go for this, Cleveland would jump for joy over this, I just don't know that Orlando would go for it.

would orlando be enticed to do it if a pick from cleveland were sent their way? i don't know how picks factor into the compensation.

but at any rate, i always thought that if bibby were traded, the team that could use him most would be the cavs.

i see why we and cleveland do it, but i don't see why orlando would want those really bad contracts though.

That's not a bad thought -- Orlando doesn't have a pick this year because of the Darko trade and Cleveland definitely gets the best of this trade.

But even still, I have to think, as LPKingsFan points out, that Orlando would rather make a run at someone like Vince Carter or Gerald Wallace in the offseason.

orlando might be interested in VC. i could see that. i think they'd rather go with youth, though, and try and pick up gerald wallace. and i don't really even know that vince carter will be making as much money as people seem to think he will. he just turned 30 last month, and injuries have aged him a bit more these last few years. somebody might throw a whole lotta money at him, but they'd be doing it foolishly.

Its a start but, I don't like the ballhandling being left all up to arroyo and artest. Very few Artest assist go to Martin. Martin would have to take on a ballhandling role.

I think we might be more likely to work a trade out with Orlando. Jameer Nelson has been much shakier than they anticipated this year, so I would guess that they would take Bibby right now if they felt they could win it all. Some combination of Bibby and KT for Hill, Darko and a pick could work for both sides. Despite Bibby's struggles this year, they could afford to let him rest a week or two to really heal up and would have to see him as a better option right now than Nelson. As long as KT was willing to come off the bench for a contender, which is much more likely than him doing it for Philly or here, he could provide them with a nice rebounder and tough defender off the bench. He could certainly contribute more than Darko has this year. Aside from shotblocking, which they also get from Battie and Howard, Darko has not brought much to the table.

Posted this in other thread(wrong thread) I will repost it here.

here is a trade i would like to do.

orlando

Pat Garrity
Salary: $3,525,000 Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 2.4 REB: 1.3 AST: 0.3 PER: 6.12
Keyon Dooling
Salary: $3,348,000 Years Remaining: 1
PTS: 8.8 REB: 1.5 AST: 1.5 PER: 10.52
Darko Milicic
Salary: $5,218,622 Years Remaining: 1
PTS: 7.8 REB: 5.1 AST: 1.1 PER: 12.81
Carlos Arroyo
Salary: $4,100,000 Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 8.5 REB: 2.1 AST: 3.2 PER: 14.40

Sacramento

Kenny Thomas
Salary: $7,187,500 Years Remaining: 4
PTS: 5.5 REB: 6.6 AST: 1.4 PER: 10.72

Francisco Garcia
Salary: $1,092,600 Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 3.9 REB: 1.7 AST: 0.6 PER: 8.87
Ron Artest
Salary: $7,526,316 Years Remaining: 3
PTS: 17.7 REB: 6.6 AST: 3.2 PER: 18.70

then we could trade Bibby for cap space and a young player. We then become a major player in the market in the end of the year. That would leave us with a salary around 29 million before signing Darko.

Makes sense from a cap standpoint but I am pretty sure everybody knows the potential of the guys we would be trading for. And in comparison, it ain't all that good.
