Monk, DeRozan, Sabonis

Just when it seemed like the Kings would be in survival mode, De'Aaron Fox goes supernova. So far, the Kings are 2-2 since Monk strained his ankle. He will miss at least four more games, against the Hawks, the Clippers, the Nets, and the Thunder. If he misses three weeks, as is common with a moderate sprain, that will be a total of eleven games.

If Sacramento can keep winning half their games when between one to three of the top six players are out, the team will finally have a chance to round into form, once they are all healthy. The addition of DeRozan, with his old-school style of play, has proven difficult to adjust to. It seems like everyone's scoring numbers are down across the board, Fox excepted. The sooner DeRozan comes back, the better they will be in the long run.

Meanwhile, I still say the Kings need to sign someone to a 10-day contract. Help!!

Fortunately for the Kings, they have three straight days off from competition after Monday night's game. At least one of the three--Monk, DeRozan, or Sabonis--should be fit to play by then. DeRozan and Monk are already listed as out for tomorrow night.
And Sabonis is doubtful, the Hawks is not such an easy team to beat, they are quite unpredictable. Already beat the Celtics at Boston, but they will be coming from a b2b losing at Portland (with Sharpe going Fox mode getting the last 11 points for his team) and they also got Daniels that can give us PTSD as former Pelican, he's also having a superb season so far.

Monk had a "Mason Jones" role in the bench against the Jazz since Mason Jones was actually playing himself.

If what another fan posted is correct, then if the Kings are still playing like this in mid-December, Monk will demand to start. He sure as heck deserves it. Otherwise, the season is heading down the tubes at that point (not just yet).

The question is what Monk would be as a starter. So much of Monks success has come strictly because he's essentially the backup PG and he can run pnr at will. Well, in years prior at least. DDR has taken some of that away from him so long term it's going to be something to watch. Putting Monk in DHO probably takes what many thought was a great contract this last summer and turns it into a negative overpaid one. Maybe not, who knows. Right now the Kings issues are far beyond personnel. It's a combination of strategy on both ends. Not getting great shots on offense and giving up great shots on the other end.

You never know unless you try. And Mike Brown has not tried, even once. The net rating of Monk with the starters this season minus Huerter is 39.3 over 50 minutes.

"Not getting great shots on offense." That is directly attributable to two guys--Murray and Huerter--failing to space the floor as expected. Everyone one in the league knows how dangerous Monk is once he gets going. Standard procedure is to call a time out shortly afterwards, to try to cool him off.

I am far from the only fan who thinks this is an option to be explored, soon. Whether the coaches will even consider it is another question. I would be happy if they at least consider Keon Ellis as a starter, given his proven results last season and this.

Monk now will "go through pregame warmups with the intention of making his return tonight against the Oklahoma City Thunder," according to Chris Haynes. The Sacramento Kings are 2-5 in his absence. Having Sabonis and DeRozan out at the same time certainly did not help, but you have to think that in the four close games, Malik would have made a difference.
