oh mobley, the personal ups and downs i've had watching you this season. from the times where you would drop four threes in a row and suddenly make it a game again, to the times where you be the invisible tenth person on a court. i dont know if i'll miss you yet, but i will miss your rare hot streaks.

2. People say "he didn't fit into our system."

Ok.

Small question: What the *bleep* is our system? The season ended with a lot of questions for all of Kings nation to ponder, but one fact beamed brightly, we are not the same team and we do not have the same system. We cannot go on with the same assumptions of player not fitting into our system because we really don't have clear view of what it is. Heck, we don't even know if he Kings brass still want the same coach. Would Cuttino fit into our vaunted system then?
I agree that our "system" may have to change -- it was the product of both coaching and a uniquely talented set of players, and we have lost almost all of those players now. Sticking to the system and while plugging in players less suited for it is a formula for decline.

But that said, my question after watching Cat this year, and my annoyance with him, is whether he can play within ANY system. I have never seen a more random player in my life. I had absolutely NO idea what he was going to do game to game, quarter to quarter or play to play. Just totally casual and spontaneous. Be invisible, then all of a sudden decide to explode. Then randomly force a drive. Then make a great pass, but not pass once the rest of the game. Take the first three quarters off, then explode for 14pts in the 4th to finsih with 16 for the game -- how do you gameplan for that if you're a coach? A complete wildcard seemignly turning it on and off at will, and really turning on and off different portions of his game from game to game and quarter to quarter. One day decides to play defense, one quarter decided to be a post player, maybe rest for a while etc. Very frustrating.

To look from the other side, it must have been equally frustrating for him as he tried to figure out - on the run - exactly what role he was supposed to be playing. And then, just when he was starting to get an idea of what was what, the whole scene changed again.

I honestly don't think any one of the new players should be judged on how they played during The Season of Change, especially without the benefit of training camp, etc.

everytime he would shoot i would assume he was going to miss. something looked funny in his shot. most times i was right with my assumption of a miss, but other times, he couldnt miss. that really bugged me.

i think this is way too overanalyzed. he was thrown midseason into a franchise which was in a MAJOR revamp, having gotten rid of one player after another, in the midst of injuries to various players. he was asked to play on a team where they didn't even practice together as a full squad most of the time due to injuries, and within a system that didn't even work given the players they had. i think he did a damn good job, he is a scoring guard, and even though he had periods of inconsistency, he is better then anybody else we are going to have starting there next year, unless a major trade happens, or the team finds a pot of gold to finance the salaries. i'm sad to see him go, and this talk about fitting within a system is ludicrous. he's a very good player, all he needed was time to get aclimated. for god's sake, i don't think he practiced with the starting five the whole time he was here :|

Well, he can shoot the lights out and finished 3rd int he NBA in 3pt%, and the shot certainly looks less funky than Peja's. If I just had any clue when the shot was going to go up I would feel much more comfortable with it.

it seems hard to believe he finished 3rd....that could be due to all the misses i watched when he shot inside the arc.

and peja's shot is just so smooth.

I think you're just remembering the bad rather than the good. Remembering when he had that groin injury when he was missing all those shots. He did end up shooting a better % inside the arc than out.

Peja's shot may be "smooth" to you, but it has to be one of the funkiest looking as far as fundamentals go that I've ever seen...

And Kevin also has a pretty unorthodox shot.

I tend to think that sometimes the guys whose shots aren't straight from the book put defenders at a disadvantage because they're not expecting the upper torso twist or the arm crossing the body, etc.

Okay, I'll concede that point. I really don't care if they bounce it off their own heads if they can get it to go into the basket more often than not...and I have to admit to being VERY FOND of Peja's three from out near the garlic fries stand that gets nothing but net on the way through. And he always looks so nonchalant about it.

Aha!!! I have finally figured it out thanks to you, VF. Who is it that loves garlic fries and has said so on numerous occasions? Yes, one of our resident Laker fans.............the inimitable hoopsfan.

Now, if Peja just swished a shot through the net while taking said shot while standing next to a Laker fan, would it not stand to reason that he would put on a nonchalant look just for her? :p

Watching Mobley for the last four years, I always felt that he would be perfect playing alongside Jason Kidd. Which is why my leading fantasy trade scenario was to S&T Mobley, and trade him, Stojakovic and Songaila to New Jersey for Vince Carter and Nenad Krstic.

Streaky would defintely be an understatment for Cuttino. I think he'd be great in PHX where offensive sets are only an option and not even a mandate.

Cuttino Mobley is back into Houston for his summer. He still has his home in Houston, somewhere around Westheimer and Kirby, one of the more expansive residential area in Houston.

He said he felt most comfortable back into Houston, and if he can have his way, he wants to play for Houston again.

Most people would like the sunny California. But Mobely felt Sacramento is not the ideal place/home for him. He said: "When I was traded away with Francis & Cato to Orlando, I still felt good, as I was still with my best buddies there. But once I was traded to Sacramento, that feeling is gone."

In Sacramento, he spent a lot of time on the phone with Francis...and once the season was over, he immediately made it back to Houston. He said: "I am already used to the life here in this city, and you can say, I like my life here. My home is here, and if I can return, I am willing to play for Houston again."

He felt that he had changed a lot after leaving the Rockets. He thought that he had changed his game to better suit JVG's defense-minded coaching style. He said: "I felt that I've improved on my defense capability and I can definitely play defense now. In this past season, I felt good in guarding Kobe Bryant and other great shooting guards/small forwards. I really think I can play defense now."

Mobley said: "I am getting a bit older now. I need to plan for the future. Right now, whenever I am free, I will do a lot of reading, and seriously ponder on my future. I'm thinking about doing a movie now." Other than his home here in Houston, together with his friend, Mobley owned and ran a bar in Houston, which was doing great business.

I'm surprised you would want any part of Carter after what he pulled in Toronto. If ever there was a player in desperate need of a swift kick to the groin, its Vince.

Thanks for the info...

I'm assuming you got this information from an article somewhere. Could you please post a link?

I dont care what people say about mobley, I like him as much as DC, and trust me DC is my man (in straight way); anyway people get mad when mob shoots too much; but again he plays the shooting guard and thats why he shoots; don't crucify him if had a bad day and nothing seem to drop for him, since he was a newbie everyone had high expectation for him to boooster our offense, but at time our core star players had bad days and we dont seem to hound on them as much.......aside from all this; Ill be sadden to wathc him leave just like the others, I just hope we can get face value for him

I liked Cat, I just don't think he's the ideal player to fill our starting SG spot, and I don't think you really want to extend a long-term contract for considerable money to a player unless you're really happy with them. I would have been happy to see him on the team next year, but he said he was going to opt out, so I don't think this is shocking news or anything. Mobley's intentions were clear at the time we traded for him. He was here for the rest of the season, and then he was going wherever the money is. There was a chance that he would have liked playing with the Kings so much that he'd decide to stay. Given all that has happened since then, I didn't expect him to change his mind.

And Doug Christie was my favorite player. I was really sad to see him go. But I could see that his time as a starter was ending anyway. It feels like we lost him for nothing, but you can't really expect to get much for a player getting paid premium money on the tail-end of his career.
