Milos Teodosic (split from PG thread)

I would be happy if we got him. Brilliant passer and exciting to watch. I think once the lottery unfolds we can better formulate our path going into next season. Until then there are too many variables. If we can somehow luck into moving up ( long overdue ) then our options really open up in many ways.
 
I would be the happiest fan if we can bring Milos to Sacramento. I love him, and he's been my favourite European player for years now. I'm also a CSKA fan, so I see him a lot.

Milos is not just an amazing player, one of the best in the world when it comes to playnaking abilities. He's also a genius with the ball, he has a great basketball IQ and that's what this team needs. Adding him and Bogdan would do wonder to this team. They are 2 natural winners. That's the kind of mentality I want our kids to get used to.
 
Article posted on netsdaily.com states Milos likely looking for 3 years for 25-30m. Also quotes from the president of his current team, including if an NBA team makes him an offer "he is gone".

The article is slanted obviously to the Nets some and mentions Utah favorably with coach Snyder having been assistant coach for CSKA. However the CSKA president also says the most concrete interest is from a team or teams not being mentioned in the media, but he did not elaborate.

The Kings can offer that kind of contract pretty easily if they want him. It's just a matter if the two sides want each other. I could see most teams with cap space interested in him if he's serious about coming over and many with the cap space to sign him. He's coming over at a pretty good time in terms of getting the best contract and such. I wouldn't be opposed to signing him to be the starter as we bring along a rookie. I've only seen highlights though so I don't know how good he is overall. Seems like a pretty impressive passer.

Did you watch the Summer Olympics? Milos led the Silver medal team. That cat 3rd from left kissing his medal is none other than Bogdan Bogdanovic. Serbian back court right there:D

Gives Joerger the time to train up Fox (or whoever we draft as our PGoF) without having to put him out there in situations he's not ready for. Think a longer version of Joerger keeping the training wheels on the young bigs when Boogie was still around. 8-10 million is really doable when we aren't in a particular hurry to get better fast and we have a lot of cap room.

yes the Kings might well be in the position to throw a heavily front loaded contract or massive signing bonus to get get Milos, but Vlade has to keep an eye on the future. Having a bunch of 1st contracts filling out the roster also means that Buddy, Skal, Richardson and Pappa are ALL going to have contracts come up at the same time. Preceded by WCS, and followed by our 4 and 10 pick this season.If the Kings want to take advantage of that talent then need to plan for that.

That would actually be the argument FOR signing Teodesic.

You give him a big 3 year deal and while you'd have to potentially re-sign Willie that last summer before the end of his deal, Milos' deal would come off the books at the same time that Hield, Richardson, Papagiannis and Labissiere all become restricted free agents. If things worked out well he'd be a perfect mentor for the young PG the Kings draft this year, not forcing the Kings into starting that kid and then being a good bench PG for the rest of his contract.

And while Teodesic said he wasn't going to come to the NBA to ride the bench, he's had no problems being a backup PG. He just wants to know he'll get regular minutes. This could work out well for the Kings should they pursue him.

I hear you, my point was that 3 IS the magic number and we COULD and maybe even should throw crazy money at Milos for a short contract.

The should part I'm still not certain of. I love watching him play, but the thing with Teodesic is that you really have to tailor your offense around what he does well and try to hide his strengths. It already feels like with did that with Rondo and I didn't love the results. But Teodesic would likely be much less of a headache.

You may well be right. It is my hope that Milos can be solid mentor and maybe even key component to a passing offense. I just am sick of watching ball dominant point guards who jack up shots. Last season some of our best ball came when Tye was running the offense, and despite your observations on Rondo I would hope that Milos would be able to make the younger players better. That being said I would not mind seeing Lawson or maybe even Collision back on a 3 year deal that leaves room for keeping the youngsters that perform. It just seems to me that of the names being tossed about Milos brings the right amount of fire and experience at wining.
 
If we get Fox, which I did not believe possible with the 8th, than I hope there is enough minutes for both he and Milos. Ntilikina seemed like he would benefit from the extended training wheels, Fox I think wont need them long so I'm thinking Lawson on a reasonable contract makes sense.
 
If we draft Fox, i am not sure if there is going to be enough minutes for both of them. For example, Ntilikina wouldn't need too much playing time at begining, but Fox would. And Teodosić needs at least 25,30 guaranteed minutes. Could we make them both happy?

In all other options i am sooo into signing Teodosić. I'm into signing Miloš even if we draft Fox, but then we will need to find a way to develop Fox slower then with Fox and Lawson at PG....
 
3-30 is all it'd take? Sheesh, I would have been fine with 3-45.

We flat out need to be on this. It lets us put some training wheels on Fox (who I'm 100% sold on) and it boosts literally everyone else on the teams development by letting Teodosic handle the ball-handling/playmaking. You got to imagine Bogdan and Teodosic will talk at some point as 2 Euro's who are looking to come over and that connection could be really beneficial too.
 
Olympiacos defeated CSKA in yesterday's semifinal game (little unexpected for all). Teodosić played despite injury, and the coach reduced him minutes (played only 22 minutes). He was great: 23 points (4-8 3pt), the only CSKA player who stepped up, made some big shoots, but also missed an oportunity to make the biggest shot. I hope his career in Euroleague is over and i hope he will decide to go across the Atlantic next year :D
 
Regardless of who the Kings draft I hope they sign Teodosic.

If they miss out on a PG in the draft then they still desperately need a starter. But the more interesting idea is if they do draft a PG.

Fox or Smith (if they somehow wind up with him) could both use a mentor who knows how to run an offense, who is patient and who sees the floor.

Also both guys (especially Smith) need a veteran ahead of them so the coaching staff can keep them focused on the improvements they need to make to earn more PT. This approach paid big dividends with Malachi and Skal last year.

Don't let rookies start and get lots of PT right away because it allows them to maintain bad habits. Using playing time as a motivator will lead to quicker improvements.

Plus Teodosic is just flat out fun to watch.

I agree. Sign the two Serbs. Rookie PGs usually take a few years to get their game together.
Only problem I see is with Milos, Bogdan and Buddy getting the major minutes in the backcourt (that Joerger will likely give them), there won't be much left for the rookie PG or for Malachi. But that problem will work itself out. I would also pencil in Temple as our starting SF until our other rookie is ready for PT. Temple can handle the SF position, and he can continue to mentor Malachi, who has similar size and length. Best case scenario is that Malachi shows he can also handle some minutes at SF.

I think Malachi is the odd man out. That's unfortunately because he went from one of my absolute least favorite draft prospects (I wouldn't have taken him at 22 or 28) to winning me over. But all four rookies (Buddy, Skal, Papa & Malachi) are going to be up for new contracts at the same time and if Bogdan comes over that's 4 SGs.

My hope would be that Richardson could be packaged with #10 to move up to #7. The Kings landing Fox at #5 and Tatum at #7 or Isaac at #5 and Smith at #7 would be a fantastic haul.

If that doesn't happen I guess we have to hope that Malachi can spend some minutes at the SF spot.

I don't see why he wouldn't be able to hold down the reserve wing spot. He's got a bigger frame and wing span than what some give him credit for. He's comparable to Josh Howard in that regard. I seem to be in the minority here but I don't think we have a problem with the 2 guard position. While we have high hopes for Bogdan he is still unproven at this level and IMO Buddy long term would best be used as the first guard off the bench but we'll see. Throw in a highly versatile Temple and that's our SG "Glut" I think we are going to be okay. None of these guys are pound the rock type players either they make quick decisions and are willing passers.

As for Milos yea let's get him I prefer him to bringing back either PG from last year. Make these young players earn their mins maybe even bring in a vet PF too.

He'd really just be a big set of training wheels for the entire team. Instead of telling Buddy/Skal and (Fox or Tatum) that they have to be the top offensive weapons and creators for us as rookies, we can just put that responsibility on Teodosic to create easy shots and take over the offensive playmaking. And as you said, I can't think of a better idea to develop a young PG than bringing in one of the smartest and best passers in the world.

That's why I don't really care what it takes to bring him in, we have the money. I think he can be an amazing developmental piece for ALL the young guys and really get the most out of their potential.

That's exactly my thought. The Nets seem to be the biggest competition for his services due to the Prokhorov connection but while they have caproom and play in NYC, that team is going to be bad for a while. Levert was solid but nothing more last year and now they have two picks in the 20's, no first rounder next year and their best two players are Brook Lopez and Jeremy Lin who plays the same position as Teodosic.

Meanwhile the Kings have Vlade & Peja as well as potentially Bogdanovic to make him comfortable. They have a starting PG spot and young talent to surround him with moving forward. And of course the caproom.

What Teodosic would do is teach the young Kings to constantly be moving off the ball and using on and off Ball screens. Learning to cut hard to the three point line and back cut when their man overplays them. Because Teodosic will find the open man for easy baskets.

I love Fox but he's not a great passer. He makes the easy read and is a solid decision maker but he isn't a creative passer. He doesn't pass guys open or know how to shift his defender to open up a passing lane for a teammate on the move. If the Kings land Fox then Teodosic would be an ideal mentor on offense.

And if Galloway opts out I'd look for defensive PG to fill that third PG slot to mentor Fox on that end. If he comes back healthy, Jarrett Jack on a one year deal seems like a good option. He's a guy who has none of Fox's speed, quickness and explosiveness but who turned himself into a very solid defender.

But, I don't think Malichi has proven enough to be enough to move up to #7 from #10.

I think Thibs and Minnesota will be looking for veteran help and I can see some value for Minnesota for Kosta Koufos or Garret Temple and a salary dump of Pekovic's contract for the #10. The Kings get Tatum and Minnesota takes Markarren or Collins at #10.

If it's a salary dump it would be Pekovic for Afflao since Pek is only on the books for this next season anyway. Pek for Koufos makes sense and opens up PT for WCS and Papa even though I like Kosta as a veteran mentor for the young bigs.

I could see them being interested in Koufos for sure. Thibs rides his starters into the ground anyway, but their bench was flat out atrocious outside of Shabaaz last year.

And with Shabaaz heading to RFA, they really can't afford to pay him with the extensions to Towns and Wiggins looming on the horizon. So I think something like #7+Pekovic for #10+Koufos+Malachi would be a deal that could get done. They get a real 3rd big, a young replacement wing for Shabaaz off the bench and likely one of the guys they wanted at 7.
 
I like Teodosic but wouldn't give him as big a contract as some have suggested in this thread, $15MM is an extreme overpay. He'd function as some sort of band-aid or placeholder here.. he's no long-term solution, I fail to see why he'd want to play with the Kings, a team destined for the lotto and destined to have a young PG which the fans are clamoring to take his spot. He's 30..

A team like the Jazz makes much more sense. I remember seeing a report from David Pick, I think in March or May saying they're sure to send him an offersheet and should be one of the front-runners.

Great offensive player but his footspeed is not even remotely fast enough to keep many starting PG's from shredding the perimete defense in just a few dribbles.

I much prefer a Jeff Teague.. Who IMO is much more likely to land with the highest bidder.
