Millsap for #8?

All-Star
Hawks Get: 6th Pick, Ben McLemore, & Omer Asik
Hawks Give: Paul Millsap & Mike Scott

Pelicans Get: 8th Pick, Kosta Koufos, & Marco Belinelli
Pelicans Give: 6th Pick & Omer Asik

Kings Get: Paul Millsap & Mike Scott
Kings Give: 8th Pick, Ben McLemore, Kosta Koufos, & Marco Belinelli

Why for Hawks?
This is a rebuilding move for them and netting the 6th pick & McLemore for a player who could be a FA after this year seems like a pretty good return.

Why for Pelicans?
The Pelicans shed Asiks horrible contract, pickup a C that should fit nicely next to Davis, and only drop 2 spots back in the draft.

Why for Kings?
Gives the Kings another go-to scorer to give them 3 viable options (Cousins, Millsap, & Gay). Millsap would also help defensively, on the boards, and spacing the floor for Boogie. Scott also gives us a cheap stretch 4 off the bench.

PG - Collison
SG - Anderson
SF - Gay/Casspi/Butler
PF - Millsap/Scott
C - Cousins/Cauley-Stein

This would leave us with 23.6 mil in cap space. Sign C. Lee to $12 mil, S. Hill to $6 mil, & Curry to $3.5 mil.

PG - Collison/Curry
SG - Lee/Hill/Anderson
SF - Gay/Casspi/Butler
PF - Millsap/Scott
C - Cousins/Cauley-Stein

you really think the Hawks are willing to give up Milsap for that? He's their main guy.

But anyway, obviously if you could pick up a multi-time All Star (albeit borderline EC version) who of late has even started playing defense, for just a middling lottery pick and some spare parts, yes you do it. Cuz/Milsap/WCS works very well thanks.

I like what you are thinking, but I don't see an admittedly "horrible contract," a ??? in Ben (hardly a blue chip prospect anymore) and the 6th pick in a ho-hum draft being enough to net Millsap. I could see the Lakers or Celtics putting together much more attractive packages if ATL decides to tear it down. Would love to be wrong, though.

I think the Pels and the Kings are coming out way too well in this deal at the expense of the Hawks for it to ever go down

I see what both of you are saying in regards to Millsap's value as a player. I guess I'm downgrading his value a little bit more than both of you considering he is making $20mil a year and can be a FA next year if he wants to be (versus a top 6 pick that you can keep for 8/9 years). I was thinking they could then maybe dump Teague to Utah for #12 and move forward with Schroder, Hardaway, Tavares, #6, #12, & #21. If they took Hield at #6, Luwawu at #12, & Prince at #21, they'd have a pretty good core moving forward.

PG - Schroder
SG - Hield/Hardaway
SF - Luwawu/Prince
PF - ???
C - Tavares

I don't see how you don't but at the same time I can't see it occurring.

absolutely if the hawks are keen.

Im completely open to trading the pick for a solid player - we have move able pieces at SG and could use an upgrade there most definitely regardless on if we are going to bring curry back.

I am not convinced the Hawks are going to try to do anything overly drastic with their roster. They have the following under contract for next season:

PG: Teague / Schroeder
SG: Korver / Hardaway Jr
SF: Sefolosha / Patterson
PF: Millsap / Scott (Team Option) / Muscala (Team Option)
C: Splitter / Tavares

FAs: Al Horford, Kris Humphries, Kent Bazemore, and Kirk Hinrich.

Depending on what they decide to do they have $52 million on the books, which would give them approximately $38 million in cap space if the cap goes up to $90 million like speculated. They can create a further $4.3 million in cap space if they decide to not take the team option on Scott and Muscala. So they have enough cap space to bring back their pending free agents, but this would likely leave them with not a great deal of room to do much else.

Even if Horford walks in free agency, it is difficult to see them trading Millsap because he's a key player for them and would help them remain competitive. There are a number of appealing options in free agency. They have different routes they could go down like bringing back Bazemore to pair with Teague in the backcourt, freeing up the SF position where they could target Parsons or Barnes, then go forward with a steady veteran at the center position. Maybe they bring back Bazemore and go for a big name center like Whiteside or Howard. What I'm saying here is they have options in free agency to retool if Hordford and/or Bazemore leave.

I guess I could see them being open to a trade if they decide to blow it up and rebuild around a new young core, perhaps like the Trail Blazers have done, but I think that would be their plan after looking at other free agents. So while I would love to see us acquire Millsap, and I like that roster you put up, I am not convinced they are going to trade a key piece of their line up and I think they will back themselves to remain one of the best teams in the eastern conference if they bring back their main free agents and managed to strengthen their roster through other means.

so the Hawks trade their All-star PF for a rookie? this is all without knowing who will even be available at 8

If you land Millsap here, we're instantly contenders.
It would never happen, though.

(and somehow I don't see Gay being kept in this dream scenario with Millsap. I DO see Rondo there, OTOH, and some super-big-ball with Millsap, WCS & Cuz in the lineup together... :D)
