League sources say free agent Mike Wilks will try out Tuesday.

The Kings are looking for a backup point guard, and Mike Wilks hopes the search stops with him.

According to two league sources, the five-year veteran, who played 47 games last season with Seattle and is a free agent, will have a tryout Tuesday in Sacramento. Wilks, 28, has been a role player with six teams, winning an NBA title while with San Antonio in 2005.

Wilks' agent, Bill Neff, declined comment.

Although the Kings used their full midlevel salary cap exception to sign forward Mikki Moore, they still have available a biannual exception worth $1.83 million. The Kings on Friday rescinded their qualifying offer to guard Ronnie Price, making the third-year player an unrestricted free agent and opening up the search.

There clearly is a need at the position. Second-year guard Quincy Douby is unproven, especially at the point, not to mention he suffered a back injury in the Vegas Summer League in mid-July. Otherwise, the backup point guard duties primarily would fall on swingman Francisco García.

For the moment, no other point guard discussions are apparent, as the trade talk surrounding starter Mike Bibby appears quiet. Whereas the Kings came so close to trading Bibby to Cleveland during summer league, it now seems possible he will start the season in Sacramento and the trade chatter will heat up again before the February trade deadline, as it did last season.

I'm telling you - this is going to be as good as it gets.

Mikki Moore and Mike Wilks.... and we're in the lottery again next year.
