Mickaël Piétrus

Flopi

Bench
According to french journalist Jerome Knoepffler (@jknoepffler), Mickael Pietrus had a workout yesterday with the Kings and is still in Sacramento.

I remember PDA and Malone saying they were looking for a defensive backcourt stopper.
Pietrus could fill that role althought he's 32 and didn't play last season...

yeah, once upon a time... (in fact I think there was a time I, amongst others here, affirmatively wanted to get Pietrus)

But now, its another thing like a Casspi or a Hollins. These are all guys filling the end of the bench. I do think Hollins and a Pietrus (if he came) could help us establish a defensive culture, but their oncourt production is likely to be minimal. There still need to be changes amongst the core personnel or we can mess around with 10th/11th/12th men all we want. At least we are poking around the right style of 10th/11th/.12th men.

Were this six or seven years ago, this would be awesome but for all I know Pietrus is now 300 pounds and a double amputee.

Hearing that Josh Howard is trying out for the team

Well I did see this tweet from Reggie Evans:

Reggie Evans @ReggieEvans30 18 Sep 03:38 ET

Glad to see my boy Josh Howard here in Sac putting in this hard work on the court. Needs to be on a team roster this year

But Really? Do we really need a 4th SF?

I would understand signing a Combo Guard since we Have only two SG and two PG
But if Josh Howard wanted to make a comeback he needs to work out for a team that is thin at SF

yeah i read the same , saw it on hoopshype.... i thought josh was decent when he played for the mavs way back in the day...but now ???

It may well be that the word is that We want to round out the roster with vets who can help guide the youth movement of the team. In general I don't have a problem with handing out a few one year contracts to guys from Jurassic Park who know how the NBA game is played. I have heard it said that wining is a habit, but in my experience it is the result of many habits combined. These guys ought to be able to instill some of these habits in the team culture.

With Rudy and DMC winning gold and the boys of summer taking Vegas we have guys who have had a taste of winning, and it is addictive! Josh, Pietrus, and Casspi are professionals who have been on wining teams. While their play may not make a difference, their influence might.

That being said I hope PDA is still on the hunt for a serious defensive big.

is it still possible to get Eric Bledsoe and Josh smith on this team this year?

Not likely as we just never had the trade assets to get those guys. Also, Eric Bledsoe is in search of a monster contract. We can wait to see what shakes loose in Detroit this year with Monroe now on a one year deal (and set to become unrestricted at the end of the year). A deadline deal for Smith there is a possibility but only if Smith continues to struggle and/or Stan Van wants to find a stretch 4 who can actually shoot. Bledsoe is probably going to get a one year deal and unrestricted status next year as well. In which case it would be more prudent to wait and see if he can stay healthy this year and earn the max deal he wants. At that point Phoenix has no rights to match anymore, so we've got as much shot as anyone else to try and lure him with a big deal. Maybe having Cousins in our corner helps a bit. We'll see what happens there. I think the team we've got now is how we'll start the year and the PF/PG positions will continue to be a point of emphasis for the front office.

i know it was wishful thinking ...i'm just not satisfied with this teams current roster . thanks for the info!

According to Jason Jones, we also looked at Jamario Moon. He speculates (hopefully) that we may be playing Gay and Williams at the 4 more this season. Which basically means not only will we still be lacking a rim protector but also losing the size advantages our 3's had in a big, athletic WC.

They should have played Williams at PF from the day they got him if for nothing more than to preserve value. Not a fan of it long term but if they played Gay at the 4 it's gimmicky enough to possibly put this team in the playoffs this year if they can come up with a consistent offense.

And Josh Howard. PDA really scraping the bottom of the barrel here.

You could interpret it that way.

Or you could again look at it in a more hopeful light that more closely matches what we have been doing:

Rudy reupped, won FIBA gold with Cuz. he's here, he's the starting SF.

We officially signed Casspi. He's going to be here. Backup SF.

and yet we are STIll auditioning veteran SFs (Pietrus, Howard, Moon) AFTER the Casspi signing. You know what that says to me? That says to me Derrick Williams may be traded, and we are trying to line up the depth chart behind Rudy.

And really, sticking with this mysterious trade theory, whatever it is could be the season. Done right, get the right guy, you add one more major piece, and potentially what PDA has been up to is replacing our expensive too young and too mediocre bench pieces, with tough cheap vets to help set a tone. Done wrong...Cuz and Rudy are all alone again.

This might not be the best place for this news, but the report now is that Minnesota is making a last minute run at Bledsoe with the four year max contract he wants contingent on Phoenix cooperating in their own dismantling. I don't see how this works out since there's little reason for Phoenix to help Minnesota get better, but the TWolves do have a lot of young players to trade now. Shabazz, LaVine, Bennett, maybe even Thaddeus Young. Not to mention Ricky Rubio (on an expiring deal as well) would probably be on the move in that scenario, which has to at least get Phoenix thinking.

Now spin that for us, supposedly always aggressively looking....

Ricky Rubio to the Kings? Gee, all those depressed souls from 5 years ago might suddenly pop back up. :)

But really, Rubio wants max, or at least a lot. the Suns aren't going to give him that, nor do they need him with Dragic and IT. Since he can't shoot, I'm not even sure he really fits their playstyle. On the other hand we didn't like IT's shoot first ness. Have been attached to Rondo rumors and obviously looking for more passing there. We also have an owner eager to make us an international force, and 2 big offensive weapons looking for somebody to pass them the ball.

In a 3 team deal could we end up with Rubio, and the Suns end up with pieces like JT and/or Derrick Williams (also an ender)?
