Michael Porter Jr

SLAB

Hall of Famer
Just because he canceled, doesn't mean his medical reports aren't accurate. For all we know, he may have a promise in the top 5, by either the Kings, Grizzlies or Mavs
That was immediately where my mind went... ugh the draft can't get here fast enough.

This has to have a HUGE impact on how teams view him. I cannot even begin to imagine what's going on behind the scenes right now as various GMs and staff compare notes. WHY would he cancel?
He has to be the hardest prospect ever for draftniks to figure out. Limited film, injury history, super-hyped preseason. Maybe he got a promise after a physical?

You don't cancel a workout because of a "promise" for the simple reason a "promise" isn't worth the paper it's written on. Anything in writing would be a gross violation of NBA rules, unless I'm greatly mistaken and I don't think I am.

For me, unless he can prove he is 110%, I would pass.

Even if he becomes the next Durant and we pass on him because of the concerns about his back, I could live with that missed opportunity.

But, if we draft him and he winds up having an injury plagued career, then the franchise is screwed for years.

Can we really take that type of risks in our situation, with no 2019 pick and other high quality prospects available like Doncic and Bagley, et al. at #2?

Personally, I don't think it's worth the risk since MPJ doesn't seem to want to go through the drills to prove his back is 100% healthy.

From everything I've read, I think the Kings were truly interested in MPJ, but if he's canceling this workout, I don't think the Kings will consider him anymore. Unless they're planning on bringing him in for a private workout/medical eval, I'm just not seeing it.

I'm not going to hold it against the Kings if they pass on him and he goes onto become Kevin Durant 2.0. I think we can all agree on that.

I totally agree. We cannot put all our money on someone with red flags that darken the sky.

so does that mean the independent Back specialist will not be examining all the medicals and an actual exam with porter that was supposed to happen this Friday?

If it does not happen we have to pass

Maybe the Chicago doctors gave the all clear and Chicago promised to take him at the 7 Spot
and the agent told him not to risk a free fall past 7 with another exam?

I think Memphis made a promise.

The Ringer updated their mock draft to have him #4 right after they dropped this information. And from what I understand, their GM has a history of making draft promises to certain players.

Unless we made the promise. I hope not; they can't be this stupid, can they?

Maybe a combination of that plus we came out of the Bagley workout with our mind made up and so MPJ’s camp didn’t see the upside of another workout.

But the footage I saw of Bagley's workout didn't look like anything that would make you cancel your plans... I mean he looked all right against an old man faux defender.

I'm hoping this is a promise from the Bulls, which would make a lot of sense. I think he would rather be taken at 7 by Bulls than at 2 by Kings for lifestyle and endorsement reasons.

This is something everyone knew...but Doncic fanatics refused to believe anyone except Doncic at #2. The Kings are legitimately down to Doncic, Porter Jr, and Bagley. Not sure the order, but it's been repeatedly reported over and over again.

Amick doesn't report much on Kings news, but when he does, he's very accurate.

If that's the case, could be that he got that From the radio hype, my hope is that anything MPJ related is not actually coming from the front office, rather, just an assumption based off the radio talk and workout info.
?? You don't know Sam Amick then. He does not post garbage, hearsay, or hyperbole. In addition, he is usually spot on when he reports something. He rarely comments on the Kings. When he does, I would definitely take notice. He is the real deal.

Sam's got legitimate info within the FO. Truth is, Kings are interested in MPJ no matter how many fans don't want to think so. You got ESPN reporting it, the Ringer reporting it, Hamm reporting it, Jones reporting it, Grant reporting it, etc. No one knows who we are taking at #2, but it's pretty obvious that we're down to 3 candidates.

My two cents is I feel MPJ is a complete smoke screen to devalue Doncic. We need the suns to pick Ayton and not Doncic. Doncic fits perfectly in how Vlade wants basketball to be played in Sacramento.

Yawn, the same tweet could be have been tweeted by @LukaLover92346 with 12 followers based on publicly available information. In fact I narrowed down the field to these exact players in my posts today based on simple deductive logic. I am not tooting my horn just telling you how relatively obvious it is. Did you have reason to think we were looking at JJJ and Bamba? C'mon now. I know everyone is thirsty for info, but a tweet from a reputable source like Amick that has significance usually includes the words "sources say." Then he is talking to an insider not just listening the KHTK.

So this is going to sound pretty unauthentic, but I promise it's true. I work for a major commercial real estate company that handles a lot of the Kings leasing needs. We helped move them out of their old office in downtown to their new one in Kimpton Sawyer. As such, a lot of the brokers I work with know some of the people in the Kings organization. No one at the very top, but just some general affiliates. Today one of our older brokers in my office comes back in and tells me he just had lunch with a group of guys, one of them being a member of the Kings executive marketing team.. This broker is very well known in town and is ingrained in various high end social circles so I have no reason to doubt this. He told me that this guy told him that the Kings are out on Doncic and are zeroed in on Porter. I called BS and didn't think that this guy was really in the know until I saw this Sam Amick report.

Still take with a massive grain of salt because this guy isn't directly a part of the front office and could've also been repeating what he's been hearing from talking heads, but i figured after this report was posted by Amick it was worth sharing.

Here's what we know.

Vlade went to see Doncic in the Euroleague Final Four and then again with Vivek
The Kings attended Porter's workout
The Kings attended Wendell Carter Jr's workout
The Kings had Bagley in for a workout
There's been a ton of chatter about the Kings' interest in Porter.

Am I missing anything?

Unless someone thinks we're drafting Carter, it's likely Doncic, Bagley or Porter Jr with Porter seeming most likely.

So I know Sam Amick used to work for Sacbee. He got legit info ?
Well, he didn't then... ;)

All the "name" writers are gonna jump on this and change up the words just enough to make it sound different. Skim away the fluff and they're all saying the same thing.

I'm right with you until your conclusion that Porter is most likely.
