Michael Kdd-Gilchrist?

Does anybody think or want the Kings to make a move for Michael Kidd Gilchrist with one of our picks. Maybe if we are in Tatum range trade the pick, some expiring contract filler like Afflalo and maybe a second rounder for MKG and the Hornets first rounder? There are still solid 3s in the 13-20 range.

I know Jordan falls in love with Duke and UNC stars. So possible they would try to move up to land one since their current make up isn't working.

Probably easier to pull off if Hornets make the playoffs and fall out of the lottery but i really like Gilchrist game and I think he'll could be a good guy to match up with Durant, Kawhi, Draymond, etc defensively. He can guard about 4 positions from twos to the newer stretch bigs(not Cuz but can probably pester an AD a bit) Plus he has cutting ability, strong rebounding, can drive and potentially develop into a extra facilitator of sorts. Seems like a Joerger type..maybe be his super Tony Allen

Am I overvaluing him?...or underestimating how much the Hornets may value him? Or both?

Kidd-Gilchrist is one of the few current NBA SFs that I wouldn't mind making a move for. I've always liked his attitude and effort, he's a guy who takes stopping his match-up from scoring personally. He's only 23, he's a very good rebounder for a wing, respectable from the line, and would really help us quarterbacking Joerger's defensive schemes.

If you look at his contract situation he's signed for 2 more years at a very reasonable 13 million per year plus a player option for a third year that he'll probably opt out of for a bigger contract. I don't think he's worth a top 10 pick in this draft, but if we have a pick that falls into the early teens I'd probably pull the trigger on a deal for MKG. He has his weaknesses of course.. usually your wings are your best shooters and he can't shoot at all so you're forcing yourself into finding a great shooter at the PG spot to maintain floor spacing. If we draft Fox, for instance, we might have a problem with other teams packing the paint. Roster makeup could get tricky but there should be ways to make it work. He's a meat and potatoes guy -- a steady defender not a dominant one, an opportunistic scorer, a reliable source of defensive rebounds -- and some fans are going to hate his offensive game but he gets the stamp of approval from me.

I do think it's fair to question whether a one on one defender like MKG impacts the game enough in this era of swinging the ball and shooting threes. His technique is great when a wing is isolating on the perimeter or trying to back him down but no individual defender is going to excel in situations where they're fighting through screens and closing out on shooters. His skillset is almost more of a luxury than a necessity against the growing number of GS followers with the fancy (illegal) screening action and emphasis on shooting over the defense. That's me playing Devil's advocate though. Personally I'd still want a defender like Kidd-Gilchrist on my team in the playoffs and I think Joerger would too.

No. Perhaps a 5 or 6, an expiring, and maybe a second rounder depending where Charlotte finishes for MKG and the Hornets first rounder(11-17 depending, they're playing the best of the lower seeded east teams so maybe they can squeak into the tourney))That's with the hope New Orleans pick gives us the opportunity to land one of the point guards. If their pick is out of the top 10 or they make the playoffs I'm not interested in moving either of the picks. I don't see us cracking the top 4.

However, if we get two top 8 picks, I wouldn't mind using our highest pick trading down and potentially landing a versatile threat who still has upside and then addressing SF depth in the mid first round.

Just making up scenarios and I've wanted MKG on the Kings. I don't think he's a finished product yet though I don't think he'll be a star. Just a Valuble starter on a great team when he reaches his peak and hopefully is in the right situation. Not a 5 or 6/Afflalo for MKG straight up or anything.

I think the 8th pick would be fair value for him, but I'm not sure if he's a player we'd rather have at 8 vs. Jonathan Isaac. Our draft prospect will be 3 years younger, and on his rookie contract for the next 4 years. I don't think we should trade for him.

I don't think MKG is worth a top 10 pick. Maybe if he had an average jump shot. Some of these SFs are projected to be solid defenders with offensive game as well. I would not trade that for a defender with a broken shot. That shot in its current form is ridiculously bad with zero hope to ever become average.

No damn way you trade our pick for MKG. You take a chance on potential upside of rookie being way better and you keep the additional years of the rookie contract. If we trade the pick, we wold be getting something way better than MKG.

The Kings just traded him for 2 lottery picks. #6 last year and likely around #9 this year + spare parts all while vastly underselling him because they were in a hurry and didn't open up bidding to more teams. And also because his agent drove down the price otherwise it would have included a 3rd lottery pick.

A guy that averages 28/11/5 is certainly worth a #3 pick in any draft, as that's the type of player you're hoping to land with any of the top 3. Wake up.

This is the time to be adding high upside young guys, who may not be so great now. If there was a year to be stockpiling rookies and bad players on short contracts, this is it.

I like MKG, but he is more for a older team looking to add some youth, or a young team starting to put it together.

Yeah this is an interesting take. I like MKG a lot, but he's already shown us who he is as a player; outstanding defender, outstanding rebounder, can get to the line, can't shoot, not an impact scorer. Like DesertFox said, he's a guy you add after you have a team together and are looking for one of the final pieces, not a team who doesn't have a core or identity yet.

Even if we had pick 11, I'd rather take Miles Bridges and his upside on a rookie deal over MKG at this point

According to Vlade and Demps putting a top 3 protection on the Pelican's pick. Not saying I agree with it, just pointing out that's his actual value. And, to get Tatum, we would need to somehow luck into the #3 or #4 pick.

Considering the way Philadelphia is playing, we might be looking at 8 and 13 as our picks this year. Pretty disappointing after it looked like we were locked into 2 top 10 picks a couple weeks ago. Bridges is solidly in the top 10 for me so I think there's no guarantee he's still on the board in the teens. I'm not thrilled about the possibility of trying to fit Monk or Markannen into our roster and there's a pretty sharp talent drop after that.

I agree about that 11-15 range. I think we can land a good PG though with the 8th pick and I'm hoping its Frank N. I am tired of trying to spell the Frenchman's last name. One argument folks have about both MKG or Stanley Johnson is that they don't bring offense to the table. Seems to me we are becoming pretty loaded with good shooters so having a defensive minded SF is OK. I'm a bit old school and aware of the current trend. Still I would like few things more than a 7 game match-up between the 89 Pistons and the 17 Warriors and see what wins games.

MKG is one of those projects that never get completed the way you would hope. He just looks to me he'll never be able to score in this league. No thanks.
