Yes, the general rule is that you go for a 2 at home to tie the game. The only problem is, this is often what the defense expects, and that was the case tonight. It's not like we passed up open 2s just to try for the 3. That was the first, only, and best shot we had and time was going to expire.
I think that is a point for concern -- best shot the team could get with 12 seconds left is a three-point shot when a two point shot would have done the job as time expired.

Tom Tolbert said it was INEXCUSEABLE...an obvious goaltend...he said the first one on tuesday was up for debate but this one without a doubt was GT'ing

and he's right it was

As for the last play, I don't like using the Webber post up for last the last play of the game. It takes time to setup and takes the ball into traffic. The pick n roll has worked much better for the Kings at the end of games and it also gets the ball into Bibby's hands with time to do something.

But I am not at all for making excuses for officials. So the last play doesn't matter, it likely would have been a totally different play in a different situation.

blah.........everyone knows it was a goaltend.

hahaha..............they actually changed what it said on ESPN.com. Before it said that it hit the backboard but wasn't on the way down. Now it shows exactly what it says this:

According to the NBA rule book, goaltending occurs if a defender touches "a ball after it has touched any part of the backboard above ring level, whether the ball is considered on its upward or downward flight," as long as it has a chance to go in.

just because the "general" rule is to go for the tie at home doesn't mean that's what Rick called. You also have to consider that we were running on fumes after playing a brutal back to back. Maybe Adelman called the three because he didn't think we could handle overtime. I just don't really care. It was a good shot, it missed, and if it had made it we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

Um..that play actually got Bibby a great look. Hard to ask for much better. And a few night before, that same play led to Brad's look whihc also should have won it. Gettin very good results with it.

I actually thought it was a pretty good shot.....Bibby was wide open.
I agree. Bibby taking a wide open three at the end of a game is perfectly okay to me, he just missed it.

As bad as it felt watching the end of this game, I can easily live with this shot.

and can you imagine if he made that shot..we would have flat out won...ARCO would have been going crazy....kingsfans would have been going crazy
I'd have been going nuts.

I stood up all ready to celebrate and everything.

But, then, I had to sit down.:(

I am a little bit glad that the Kings lost this one. They are not only getting bad calls but underachieving as well. There needs to be something that changes the attitude or mindset of the team, the same attitude that took them to the WCF. These are tough times and they will either get tough or move to Minnesota.

If nothing else, it could bind them together as a team as nothing else could.

Suns fan here,

I just had to say I feel bad for you guys on this game. Unlike the Suns game where the call was extremely close (and therefor warrented a no call due since it was a game deciding play) this was one of the most obvious goaltends of the year. I mean judging the ball location is one thing, but it hit the damn backboard......

Oh well, can't say I am upset that the Mavs won since we share the same division but I do feel bad for you guys.

ok, I just watched the highlights on nba.com...first, they called Dampier's block a block, and not a goaltend, despite the fact that it clearly hit the backboard before Dampier even touched it, so the spin machine is in full effect.

but I stand by my criticisms of the last play. that was just an ugly sequence where at no point could the Kings have gotten a shot any closer than an open three pointer, and I just would like to think that they could work for a better shot at the end of the game. Makes it difficult when there isn't one player on the roster that excels at breaking defenders down off the dribble on his own.

Lots of good research shows that at comon threat bonds a group much quicker and more effectily than comon goals or mutual self interest. Allthe feel good group hugs and motivational speakers can not acomplish half of what an attack can. Were I part of the Kings organization I might well play on this "war with the refs" to help pull the team together and try to make some lemonaide out of this recent series of losses, snubs, bad calls fines and suspension. Best bet would be to rent a remote get away for several days during all star week to do some ropes work and team building before hitting the gym for intense practice focusing on boards and defense.

yeah...yup it was goaltending...clear as frickin day

but for the record...extremely close play you are refering to from Tuesday night...yeah that definetly was not game deciding...the kings wouldn't of won and the suns wouldn't of won...if they counted the basket...it would have gone into OT...where THERE the game would have been decided....but we'll never get the privelege of knowing who really won that game
