Matt Barnes wants to finish his career in his home town?

Midway through the camp, Memphis Grizzlies forward and Sacramento native Matt Barnes dropped in to say hello and do some work with the kids. Barnes, 36, played under Joerger last season and would love nothing more than to finish up his career in his home town. Whether that is an option or not is unknown at this time.
I've been a fan of Barnes re-joining the Kings for ten years now.

The Kings NEED a defensive wing player, and he's the kind of junkyard dog that Boogie may want to go to war with.

Yes, I'd be happy to see Barnes in a Kings uniform next year. He's the kind of player we need , even if he's old. And he will be cheap.

Playing hard nosed defense is Barnes game at this point in his career. The bench should be full of players of his ilk!

Am I the only one that says no thanks?!

The last thing this team needs is a Matt Barnes sideshow! He is the type of player that we should be looking at minus the baggage!

Strong vote against. Decent player, but probably the biggest court complainer in the league, an antagonist that often starts the trouble he finds, and a guaranteed fine for off court bar room brawl or local condo whooping.

Don't care that he lasted in Memphis, he was playing with some veteran hard workers. Don't need him. Don't want him. Better guys out there.

If Joerger wants him that's great with me. It's "Yay's" team now.

This is a big point. Barnes and Joerger know each other and there would not be (I'd assume) a comfort level but some knowledge of Joerger's schemes which can only help.

I'm very much in favor of dealing Rudy to help shore up the SG spot and Barnes would be a great backup SF behind Casspi. He's the kind of player good teams always seem to have.

I would love to have him. His passion and willingness to cover his teams back is more than enough for me. I really think it would do wonders for Boogie as Matt doesn't have the kind of personality that would let anyone take shots at Boogie without retaliation. That kind of personality and toughness is something that I think is crucial for a team to have with a star player like Cousins. You don't want Cousins to have to fight those battles himself and you can bet your ass if Barnes is on the court he won't hesitate (for better or worse) to protect Cousins before he can get himself into trouble.

Sometimes having a jerk on the roster is not the worst thing in the world. As long as he's your jerk, and directs it outward. Doesn't have to be likable. Can in fact be a punk. But a feisty chaotic mess that gets in the face of other teams/players puts pressure on other teams, and can often relieve it from your stars.

And that's a key break -- I think Draymond has helped power the Warriors with his borderline behavior, but the problem is as one of their stars they need him to be reliable and on the court. So there are consequences to them when he crosses the line. It works better when its a roleplayer that you can afford to lose.

When Barnes played for the Clippers, he was the one who usually covered Blake's back. He eventually got tired of it because Blake kept starting crap that Barnes would have to finish (getting the techs and fines) while getting no support from Blake. If he did that stuff for Cousins, you know that Cuz would probably pay most of his fines.

I do see your point. I've seen him play a ton though on lots of teams and I'm really not anxious to ad to our anti-ref contingent. Lots of ref conflicts seems to be our plague year after year.

To me, this would be well worth the signing. Anybody pushing Boogie's buttons would certainly get put in check by Barnes. I like the thought of Matty getting into it with Draymond and defending Klay Thompson.

I'm into it.

Always loved his toughness and heart. Still brings more than decent D and is an ok 3 point shooter. The fact that he wants to play here seals it. Someone tweet Vivek to make it happen.

I was leaning towards your opinion until I considered the fact that Joerger just coached Barnes last season and has a good relationship with him. I believe the Joerger dynamic will limit Barnes' baggage.

I'd love Matt Barnes on this team. Need him to be the bad guy. Your best player can't be the enforcer as well. Too valuable on the court to be the bad guy. No one will F with Boogie if Matt Barnes is on the team.

I also wouldn't mind Matt Barnes on the Kings. Our team needs a little more edge other than Demarcus. We have too many nice guys like Gay and Mclemore.
