Marvin Bagley will ball out next season!

Despite the positionless basketball chatter, they do need to pick one spot and system and let him show what he has. If he can play two positions after excelling at one great. At this point we need to evaluate whether he is worth keeping and at what price so don't make it harder than it has to be.

Honestly I just hope he can stay healthy, I am sure if he had been able to do that we'd all be feeling a lot better about what we passed up on to pick this guy.

Best case is he balls out enough to get a decent return on a trade from a team with something to offer and confidence in their ability to re-sign him.
That seems like a hopeful/likely case if the rumors Monte was shopping him are true but considering where he was picked and the fact that if he can stay healthy he is still a lot younger than guys who stunk 3 years into their careers people are advocating trading for ... that's still a pretty poor outcome and far from the best case, which would be he plays 82 games with zero injury concerns, shows growth and agrees to a reasonable extension.

Huge “if” given his injury history.

Health concerns are the main reason I’d like to see us move on.

And at this point I’d say all “best cases” as far as Bagley are concerned are going to be poor outcomes when looking at the big picture. We can thank Vlade and Williams for that.

Obviously I'm going out on a limb but I think he has a chance to show out next year simply based on the fact that hes a hard worker. I'm not sure that happens in Sacramento or somewhere else but I'm not bailing out yet. I think it's time to play him at the 5 and let him sink or swim at this point.
Totally agree and as sucky as it might be, him balling out has as much to do with Holmes' future as it does Marvins health. Him spotting up next to him for 24 mpg won't get him there.

IF Bagley can stay healthy for a full season, I can see him going for 18/9/1 block easy next season. The big question with Bagley has always been his health/toughness and BBIQ/defense.

He needs to man up and grow in to his body if the Kings have a chance to get to the playoffs. Holmes will likely be gone in FA, so Bagley will need to step up big, he will likely be our starting center next year.

I just hope Monte doesn't trade him for peanuts, when his trade value is so low right now.

I'm not a big Bagley fan but trading him right now would be premature. We see how NBA big men take a little longer than guards to acclimate themselves in the league. I won't be paying much attention to his stats, what I will be looking out for is if he added strength, is durable and reads the floor when he's playing.

Yeah points per game could be fool's Gold. It's more can he fit in, play 82ish, and make plays when he should. I think he can and at some point will.

He needs to focus on strength (ideally 10lbs of muscle) and then his catch and shoot 3 ball. The rest of his offensive game is fairly polished, but tue biggest focus needs to be his defense. The extra muscle should help him stay healthy but the issue is even when he is healthy, you cant keep him on the court because he is a defensive sieve. He needs to at least be league average in order to help stay on the floor so the kings can taoe advantage of his offensive game.

All KINGS fans shoule be rooting for MB3 to succeed. If you’re not, your fandom can be rightfully questioned.

The fastest way for the KINGS to ascend is for MB3 to remain healthy and make a huge jump forward in his development.

Like many others, I wasn’t on board with Vlade drafting him. But he’s a KING. And not worth much in trade right now. So the best case scenario going forward is for him to show out like he never has before.

If that happens, the KINGS should be in good shape. Even more so should Tyrese Haliburton build off his successful rookie season.

This. It doesn’t matter if you like him or not. If you see him as the future or not. If you’re a kings fan you want him to get better. Either he gets better and helps the kings or he gets better and increases trade value. Either way you want him (all kings players for that matter) to ball out next season.

He's an unrestricted free agent so he will get precisely the contract he earns. If he wants it to be max value he plays 70+ games and is a good soldier.

If Marvin played well enough to even think about demanding a max contract, that's a good thing.
Very scary though. I think what the Kings do or don't do better be figured out 20 or so games into next year. Stumble or look mediocre and it's time to go into self preservation mode and think about the future. Maybe one that doesn't start off with no success and 2 max deals on the books.

??

I don't really think the Kings will refuse to tender the QO. It would take a pretty disastrous season for that to happen.

I would add that he needs to work on his tunnel vision as well. He has plays down the floor where he thinks he is in a good position to attack the basket and score and once he has decided that will do so regardless of what is in front of him. He was better at reducing the frequency of this last season, but he still has a ways to go. On both sides of the ball it comes down to him improving his BBIQ and ability to read the situation in front of him. Hopefully he can make those improvements.

As for Bagley balling out, one of the issues last season is that Luke in his rudimentary offensive system just relegated Bagley to essentially a spot up shooter in the corner. Now I get it, who do you choose to highlight Bagley in favor of? Your best player in Fox? Your smartest player in Haliburton? Your most efficient player in Holmes? Your most savvy player in Barnes? I think if Bagley was the 2nd or 3rd option in the offense he would ball out a lot more often, but right now he is the last option after those 4 players and Buddy. It's hard to imagine Bagley balling out if his role in offense remains as a spot up corner shooter.

I think when we talk about Bagley "balling out" we need ti to realize that he was not an offensive liability. I would say his when he doesn't produce on offense, it is more to do with the fact that he cant stay on the court. When he is on the court, he is reasonablly productive offensively. The issue is bagley's defense. He is terrible on a historically terrible defensive team. He is to defense what Ben Simmons was to offense during the playoffs. Offensively he is doing what he needs but his minutes have allowed him to be productive as he could be. He needs work on strength, watch tons of film and work with a defensive specialist this off season.

Yeah, strength is the main factor since if this team has any brains him transitioning into Holmes' role is his only shot. In terms of success though how high is the bar? I think Bagley isn't anywhere near as incapable in guarding pick and roll as Jokic was in the playoffs. At least Gobert acted like he was trying to recover to the perimeter. Jokic was down in the paint doing his nails or reading a book. I don't think Bagley has to be a defensive stopper for this team to not absolutely suck. He can be a bit of both worlds offensively and defensively and this team can find an identity on both ends. That should be the goal.

I don't think Bagley will ever be an all NBA caliber defender but you could see him trying at times and he was making improvements, the team's defense was epicly bad and as one of the last lines of defense he is going to look worse than get guy that blew by his man and Bagley had to pull double duty on. I also think that coaching did not do any of the Kings' players any favors this season on the defensive end.

This is a guy who was catered to his entire career and is only now being asked to put in a full effort and he is a young man playing one of the more physical positions, which is why we've seen players far worse than him over their first 3-4 seasons turn into "desirables" when they reach 26 or so years of age. The only question is can his body hold up. That said, I'm also pretty sure that the elite players play through broken fingers like he has had. We can't treat him like grandma's fine china.

Yep. And if Vlade drafted Bagley to be a stopper to begin with that was his critical mistake. He wasn't projected number 2 because of his defensive potential. They should have looked at Bamba if that was the goal. Then again, this is the franchise that took arguably the best catch and shoot G and forced him to become a combo/playmaking G. Which Buddy has done well BTW. Was it smart however? Clearly not if you were trying to maximize what players do best to win games since the winning part still eludes them.
