Marcus Camby

what do you guys think of signing him this offseason? he is a FA right? do you guys think he has a year maybe two left?
he is a long shotblocker and will definately help us win games. I know hes old, but we could use the veteran leadership he would bring. Kind of like the vlade signing 10 years ago, i know they have very different games but same veteran leadership lead to wins. then get a good player in the draft and we could definately make the playoffs next year.

Evans
beno
Camby
Landry
Casspi

bench:
cisco
turner?
greene
thompson
hawes

i think everyone should stop trying to find the perfect complement to tyreke because we already have that: Beno. they play excellent together

I know he looked (and sometimes played) much older, but Vlade was "only" 30 in his first year with us. Camby's 35.

a) he's ancient
b) he's never remotely been a leader

just not at all interesting in our position.

Ill go ahead and disagree with that last part. Afterall, Camby IS a shotblocking/rebounding bigman. I certainly wouldnt mind having Camby for a year or two. He's filled in nicely for the Blazers when healthy.

Only if Petrie ends up trading pieces to make this team a contender NOW. If he goes out and stacks the team with stars in their prime then sure, but as of now, no thanks. Nor would he even consider coming here anyway.

I think Camby would be a perfect fit for us in a 2-3 yr deal. He'd be our first big off the bench or starting, either way, probably 25-30 min a game, and that'd diminish over the years. He's still an incredible rebounder, shot blocker and post defender and would be a perfect compliment to our tandem of big men, without necessarily stunting their growth with the minutes he'd get.

He'd also be very affordable I'm sure, another plus.

He's an old injury prone shotblocking/rebounding big man, and tying up any money or development time in him makes no sense. He has no future. He's a win now acquisition. We aren't ready to win now. If this was 2003, then sure, by all means let's do it. But in our situation we need somebody who's play isn't about to fall over a cliff. And frankly he shouldn't need us either. He'll have other suitors wiht more attractions than what we can offer.

Camby has played in over 800 games in the NBA. So he's entering that gray zone of when little injuries start to occurr. Between 800 and 1000 games is when most careers end. There are exceptions of course, and with the more modern training facilities and medical advancments with treatment, a players life expectancy may increase somewhat. Be as it may, I would doubt that you would want to give a player thats 35 years old and has played in 817 games anymore than a one year contract.

By the way, some players to watch in the future for signs of wear and tear are:

Kobe Bryant: 1008 games played
Ray Allen: 1004 games played
Kevin Garnett: 1107 games played
Paul Pierce: 866 games played
Jason Kidd: 1171 games played
Dirk Nowitzki: 904 games played
Steve Nash: 998 games played

All good things have to end..

Camby single-handedly destroyed us the other night on the defensive end.

I would be down with bringing him in for a year.

He's a guy we could sorely use on this team, but by all accounts many think Camby will go back to the Clippers this offseason. He's just too loyal, to a fault.

I agree that Reke and Beno have been playing very well together, but Couldn't help but notice your Turner? coming off the bench. If we are fortunate enough to get Turner, Beno's days as a starter would be numbered.

Yeah, I think it would just be a matter of time..

I've always liked Marcus Camby.

It is probably because when I was in university he was leading the squad a few cities over to national attention and a Final Four (even if it officially never happened).

All of which means the dude is older than I am. PASS!!!

no i think for the first year beno and evans should start just like harden in okc. but knowing westphal beno and turner would alternate starts

Vlade had 6-7 years left in him at the time. He was much more of a long-term investment. I also do not consider them on the same level leadership wise either.
