Marc Stein article on Vlade

yeah, divac was cool people..... if hawes can be half as good as divac was we'll be in good shape. minus the flopping... its embarrassing to see a 7ft man fall down because someone bumped into him.

I don't often agree with Marc Stein, but he sure got this right in my book:

He is not yet eligible to claim a spot in the international wing of the Basketball Hall of Fame, but you suspect that Vlade Divac won't have to wait through too many more Septembers.

Not when you could start in Portland and scour the globe and still struggle to find a bigger trailblazer in the game.

The résumé stands up well nearly five years since he last played, no matter what you think of his famed, uh, defensive theatrics. Divac's huge, soft hands entrenched him as Europe's first successful long-term export to the NBA. He is one of just four players ever to amass at least 13,000 points, 9,000 rebounds, 3,000 assists and 1,500 blocks.

Vlade truly is one of the ones I'll remember and respect my entire life.

Great story. There's just something special about Vlade, the human being. He does radiate warmth, caring, good will and good humor. I don't think I'll ever stop missing him being here. I wish him and his family all the best and I wish Vlade the very best in his humanitarian endeavors.

Not to sound snippy or anything, but can we maybe just maybe keep this about the great article about Vlade and not have it dissolve into another discussion on flopping in the NBA?

Just a request. I for one am very glad to see Vlade getting some national recognition, which I believe he truly deserves.
