Malone fired

While Cousins is tighter with Malone and just about all that matters, Malone had help salvage Gay. A month ago, we locked Gay into an extension because he was happy with the situation. I'm sure he's thrilled as well. Plus, it's not like Rudy has ever allowed his play to fall off when he was dissatisfied with the situation.

makes me wonder how commited they (FO) are to boogie, he didnt know as late as 8pm tonight and he doesnt fit mullin/pda/viveks junk ball vision at all.

Malone was doing the best he could with the hand hes been dealt. even while losing the guys fought hard and were in every single game. this move is beyond baffling.

Well, to be fair, Boogie was out playing Santa Claus for kids buying gifts tonight. He was sorta busy.

Apparently Vivek really wants to test our creed of "Anyone is better than the Maloofs."

Between using the Kings to promote his "pop star" daughter every couple of weeks, deciding to do whatever the hell that crap is in Reno, setting utterly ridiculous expectations out of the gate, and constantly saying outlandish, ridiculous things that sound like Don Nelson on a rum and donuts binge, Vivek is looking more and more like one of those crazy owners in a sports comedy movie.

Only unlike Jackie Moon, he's not tall and semi-okay at basketball. He also won't invent the alley-oop.

Perhaps Cousins doesn't match a Karl uptempo style. But his most recent campaign led this team (only the players listed played 1000 min or more) to a .695 record in the West:

Lawson/A. Miller
Iguodala/C. Brewer
Gallinari/W. Chandler
Faried
Koufos/McGee

On paper, that team doesn't look very special to me. .500 in the West? Maybe. But .695? The front line is frankly terrible. Karl got that team to home court advantage in the first round. I don't know how he did it, but he's got some sort of magic up his sleeve. I'd bet he'd lead the Kings to a better record than Malone. I mean, you can't empirically test it, but that's my guess.
 
FYI they wouldn't tell anyone too far in advance, not even DMC. My guess is they told him right after the event. This to me is a "Be careful what you wish for" moment. Vivek & Co are incredibly wired into social media. I don't think they were totally blind to all the heat Malone took after last night.

When it looked like the team was doing really well I felt bad for criticizing Malone. But I think what happened after Cousins got sick really showed his limitations. He always says the same thing. We didn't defend well in X and Y quarter etc. For him that is what it always boils down to. There is no adjustments during the game. We do one thing. DEFENSE.

We literally became the worst team in the league without cousins. We could not adjust to his absence. Real head coaches find ways to win. they make adjustments during the game. For example the Mavs game. We where up big and the other HC started pressuring us with full court presses etc. We need a real HC who can make adjustments!

Malone would be a great assistant who focuses on defense.

I'm all for George Carl. Or anyone who has proven they can win and use personnel in a competitive way.
 
Was our FO and Vivek dishonest in contract negotiations with Rudy?

Vivek/our FO apparently wanted to fire Malone this summer and they were waiting for the first opportunity, apparently any opportunity judging by current events. Did they sell or present the idea to Rudy that Malone, the guy who's helped Rudy play his most efficient ball ever, would be here going forward and they'd all grow together? I can't imagine they wouldn't have. If they even hinted at Malone being part of our future in negotiations, it was dishonest at best, an outright lie at worst.

And that could have serious ramifications if Rudy feels he was misled or lied to. He and Cuz are close. I doubt Cuz would want his friend done over like that.

Aside from Pop randomly abandoning the Spurs to coach the Kings, George Karl would probably be our best case scenario. I'm just not sure how many years he has left in him

That quote is from Dec. 3 of this year. The Kings are saying right now that Corbin is getting his turn, but I'd be surprised if they haven't already made that phone call to Karl. He wants back in. And outside of Adelman (who may not want back in, and furthermore may not want back in in Sacramento) I can't think of a better available candidate off the top of my head.

I would have a fair degree of confidence that Karl can get the best out of pretty much any group of guys.

I mean, look at that. .695?

There's no way he wouldn't be smart enough to figure out how to maximize a talent like Boogie.

If Vivek wanted "exciting", high-scoring Nellieball, why didn't he just keep Keith Smart after buying the team?

True I just wonder how we are going to fit Cousins into a uptempo system without him being frustrated. I know he did it on the National Team but this is completely different.
