Luke Loucks next Florida State head coach

Wonder how this will affect out coaching bench depth for remainder of the season. Now down two assistants (if you count Doug moving up).

Their season is over. I wonder how common it is for an assistant coach to leave a team for a job with 20 games left, especially since it’s the offseason.

I actually like the Stockton head coach, I wonder if he gets a shot.

FSU's season isn't quite over. They still have one regular season game and then the ACC Tournament, but they won't go to March Madness unless they run the table at the ACC Tourney. I would assume that Hamilton is going to coach out the season, but Loucks will need to get going soon as the college portal has become the primary method of acquiring players, and that goes hot while the tournament is still in motion.

The portal is the way but also NIL and one and dones are still a thing and he has to re-recruit the current team, any prospects, plus his own improvements through the portal and any potential uncommitted one and dones.

There's no NCAA offseason and it's why many of the clearly dirty guys pre-NIL could not coach pros.

Good for him, I think with the coaching change of Brown we were able to see some of the defensive system issues were indeed not Loucks just like they weren't with Jordi the previous years either.
One thing about Brown is he did put together an excellent assistant staff. I raved about all of them when they were announced. Loucks seemed to take an unfortunate share of the blame after being named "defensive coordinator" but it is clearly a matter of them doing what was assigned from above. Kudos to Brown for not firing or demoting any of his guys if that was the case, but really we hired a guy and thought we were getting a defensive mindset and got poopoo on that end.

Maybe but we went from a top 12-13 defense to 20th until recently. The last 5 games got us back to 15-16 at last check. I like how we look now but having Jonas and Laravia plus Fultz and Keon getting run has been the biggest difference imo.

Middling is middling, but that help scheme was awful. The defense has been up and down, but with so much change that has to be factored in as well. The elephant moving on is where you top out with a player like Monk guarding the front door and Domas guarding the back. Pre all star the Kings were 27th in opponents 3 point FG%, post All star they're 12th. The Kings were getting killed from 3 with that scheme. The numbers have dipped a bit and believe it or not, partly it might be Devin Carter getting pushed. He has by far the best defensive numbers at 35.1% against when guarding players between 24-29 feet out of those that were actually consistent fixtures in the rotation. As of now the player replacing his few minutes in that role in Fultz is giving up 40% from that range.

Maybe the first time anyone has heard from Brown since December?

I think they're getting a good one - although NCAA is still all about if you can recruit, and now that the money is out in the open that job is harder than ever. Is FSU a money basketball school? I dunno.

Will be interesting to see what our bench looks like next year. Regardless of how you feel about Mike Brown, I really do think one of the most important things he did was fight to have a larger assistant pool than past recent head coaches had, and he brought in some good ones between up and comers like Jordi, Luke, Barbosa, and a vet like Triano. I have a feeling we're going to lose more so if Doug is our guy next year I hope the commitment to a strong assistant pool remains.

I thought I saw a new face on the bench last night, a redheaded fellow over forty. Checking the replay, it looks like Jim Moran has been promoted.

In the presser after last night's match when someone asked him what the changes will be in the coaching staff with Loucks leaving, Christie looked annoyed and his first answer was "I am the head coach of the team" or something like that, perhaps he didn't hear the question right, perhaps he was still pissed by the way we lost the match (refs and that unlucky buzzer beater bouncing all over).

doug said that “jim” was in the first seat now. I didn’t even know we had 2 Jims on the staff and assumed it was Alapag that got the promotion. Big staff these teams have

Because he took a new job. This is pretty much the most important part of the college season right now.
Ya, but I guess I thought the existing coach would finish the season. This is a bit odd to bring in a new coach right at tournament time, right?
Loucks will be the head coach beginning next season. Leonard Hamilton (current FSU head coach) will be stepping down at the end of the season.
