Its one thing to pad stats in garbage time...

Its another thing entirely to score 11 pts in under 30 seconds...And only 2 of those points were FTs.

It wasn't exactly padding stats because he was still playing to win, thought we could win, and brought us damn close. They weren't meaningless points, as you could tell by Pops timeouts.

SA Fans/Broadcasters can kiss our ***! Keep talking...we'll(Tyreke included)remember EVERYTHING...so when he drops 40 on you then I guess that's just 'padding his stats', eh?

Near-heroic comeback try?

Or Evans stat-padding exercise? (Not that he doesn't deserve it)

To some degree the answer to that was determined when we got within 3 with 4 seconds to go -- at that point we legitimately could have won the game. Hence, comeback by a player who just wouldn't roll over.

If he scores 11 to get us from down 20 to down 9, that's closer to stat padding.

If that was 'Reke padding stats, I don't think that the world could handle him "playing to win"

look at the end of the score

Was it 115-113, or 115-105?

He kept on scoring because he believed we could still win...and we could have.

he definitely wasnt padding his stats but he was basically trading baskets with the spurs... tyreke makes a layup, spurs shoot ft's, tyreke makes another layup, more spurs ft's, three, more ft's, nocioni for three, more ft's... kings down 5 tyreke hits a meaningless 3 at the buzzer... unless he was fouled, made the shot and the spurs are called for a technical it was a meaningless three at the end of the game.

but it was an entertaining games nonetheless... you could tell that he was trying to win the game but at that point it wasnt winnable unless hill split some of his freethrows. duncan and manu did in the beginning which was cool, but after that manu hit his last 2 and hill hit his last 4... there really wasnt anything that tyreke couldve done to win that game in the end, short of a 5 point play to tie the game and send it to overtime.

Yeah, I think I agree with everyone here. The final shot was padding, the rest, legitimate basketball. Too bad it didn't start 10 seconds earlier.

i loved it when tyreke had duncan on his heels. i haven't rooted for the kings that hard all year. go kings!!!!!!!!!!!!! it was exciting and to see tyreke do what he did tonight.

Yeah, keep downplaying it buddy.

Tyrik is showing me every game that he and the whole team with him can excpect a bright future, the guy is an unbelivble player!
it will take the team another year or two, but the guy, and i am saying it cautiously, has better numbers then LeBron in his rookie year!
i mean Cleavlend sucked in his first year too, and he was only 41% from the field, i know right now it's like in the middle of the winter, when it is cold and you can hardly remmember the sunny days, but i tell you they are out there, plus i belive that the rest of the young guys, plus another good defender, and some help for Haws if we can bring some decent PF or C are better then what the Cavs has to offer.
we got some talented young players, and as it seems right now, maybe we can will get Wall in the draft...:D

Tyreke needs to shoot the ball higher all the time. His shots are always hitting the back of the rim (too strong). On his last few shots the arc of the ball was much higher than normal, and they all went in. Good job reke keep working on those shots!

Right, trading baskets gets you from down 13 to within 3 in the span of 95 seconds.

It's much like when football teams trade "scores", only to wonder why they're down 21-9.

So knocking off ten points of the lead in under two minutes is only "trading baskets?"
I think he was making the point that what "he who shall remain nameless" said about Tyreke trading baskets was misleading, as one freethrow < layup and 2 freethrows < 3 pointer.

Or if you follow the football analogy all the way through one team is scoring TDs while the other kicks FGs.

Yes to both. I think it's disingenuous to say that he was simply stat-padding or "trading baskets" when another 30 seconds may have changed the final outcome.

That, or a made layup, or an extra rebound, or two fewer turnovers. Basketball is a fickle woman.

It was Reke showing what's to come for many yrs. As I was watching it, I thought... there is no way Reke can make something happen. THen he scores... scores again, steals... scores... scores, steal... scores...

I don't recall another rookie in recent yrs..(the last 10 yrs or so)... doing something like this as a rookie. Not even Lebron could do this so effortlessly in his rookie yr.

LOL @ the 7 people who voted for stat-padding.

Football coach Herm Edwards said it best, "You play to win the game."

A missed ft, another steal, a turnover, or a few more seconds and the Kings could've tied or even won the game. Anything can happen. He'll, imagine if Reke got fouled shooting the 3 leaving a second or two on the clock, made the 3. He went to the line, missed the ft intentionally, and Kings tip it in to the game. 5 point play and they go into overtime.

Stat-padding? Stat-padding is Ricky Davis shooting at his own team's basket and missing to grab the rebound to get a triple double. Not Reke trying to win the game.

Great example. Man, he looked like an idiot for that. Just think if he would have made the shot.....

Herm Edwards isn't really an authority on winning.

True but that doesn't mean you discredit what he said, specifically that particular quote. Why else do you play the game? Whether you're playing basketball, football, baseball, whatever; you always try to win. You never know what can happen, whether there's 10 minutes left or 10 seconds.
