Larry Brown to coach the Grizz?

Larry Brown hopes to return to coaching -- again.

The Hall of Fame coach received permission from the Philadelphia 76ers to interview for the Memphis Grizzlies' vacancy, a team spokesman said. Brown reportedly was to meet with Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley on Wednesday.

If the Grizz land Oden or Durant in the draft, it might not be a bad place for LB to start over again.

What it really is with Werst out of the way is an opportunity for Brown to play god-emperor for the franchise. To that degree, not surprised in his interest. No other voices allowed in L.B.'s world.

Assuming Memphis ends up with one of the top 2 picks, I'd much prefer not have LB shackling Oden or Durant for the next three or four years while he returns the Grizz to a playoff team that won't win a championship.

Oh, and my guess it that Gasol and Mike Miller wouldn't really enjoy playing for LB either since neither plays particularly solid defense.

Ahem...
David Robinson's rookie year:

Head coach, Larry Brown.

Yep, he can't play rookies or do anything with them. LOL

Starting to affect the Kings

It seems like the Kings waited way too long to fire Adelman last year (that is, if he really needed firing), and by the time the Kings got around to it, pretty much all the good choices were gone.

So all these names I see being tossed around by various teams (Carlesimo, who I wouldn't touch anyway; Brown, overrated; Carlisle, overrated; and so forth) will be off the board by the time Petrie gets back from Europe.

True, Petrie has to go to Europe to evaluate talent, but he better be paying attention to the coaching, too. Otherwise, it's going to be Mike Fratello.

By the way, there is far too much bitterness about Monta Ellis in these parts. You guys need to find out more about him. Martin is young, but Ellis is incredibly young. Is he 20 yet? And I'm really sorry to say this, but making the playoffs DOES matter.

Imagine the Cavs without James. Now, I know the talk is, "Will it be Dirk, Nash or Kobe for MVP?", but for my money, it's James in a landslide. Would the Cavs be one of the favorites in the East without James? No stinking way. They'd be the Pacers without James. Heck, they might be the Bobcats without James.

Martin had a LOT of long stretches (WEEKS!) where he might as well have been just another anonymous two out there. That's where Ellis won; he's in the playoffs, and he didn't disappear for weeks at a time.

There is a topic about the Ellis thing.

But I am glad Petrie isn't doing anything about the coaching for 2 weeks. Terry Porter knows his best shot at a head coaching job is here so he's not going anywhere. Petrie isn't going to get done with interviewing until the playoffs are over around June and he can talk to Terry Porter and Marc Iavaroni who are assistants on the Suns and Pistons. They are the best candidates for the job by far. If the Raps re-sign Sam Mitchell, the Pacers find somebody before the playoffs are over, the Grizz decide on Larry Brown, and the Bobcats find someone like Carlisle, we are basically the only coaching opening left and we are left with the 2 best candidates.

So, truth be told, you're really a Warriors fan, right?

I think he's made some other posts that point to that also. He seems like one of those Warrior fans who bandwagoned on the Kings when they were good but now that the Warriors are good and we suck he's a warriors fan again.

Because Ellis willed the Warriors into the playoffs, right?

Don't get me wrong: I actually like Ellis. But when you're talking about the most improved player, you're not talking about how good his team is. It's not the Most Valuable Player. It's not Coach of the Year. It's not even Defensive Player of the Year. It's probably the most individual award, based on individual stats, of them all. How good your team is is largely irrelevant. It's about how much of an improvement you made as a player from one year to the next.

2003 - Gilbert Arenas, Golden State Warriors (38-44, no playoffs)
2004 - Zach Randolph, Portland Trailblazers (41-41, no playoffs)
2005 - Bobby Simmons, Los Angeles Clippers (37-45, no playoffs)
2006 - Boris Diaw, Phoenix Suns (54-28, 2nd seed)

Only Diaw's team made the playoffs, of the last four MIP winners. And it's hardly accurate to say that he was the reason his team was so good. Of course he contributed, as did Ellis, but making the playoffs hasn't been a prerequisite to winning MIP in the history of the award.

I think Ellis deserved it just like Martin did, but I don't agree that he deserved it more because the Warriors made the playoffs.
