It seems like the Kings waited way too long to fire Adelman last year (that is, if he really needed firing), and by the time the Kings got around to it, pretty much all the good choices were gone.
So all these names I see being tossed around by various teams (Carlesimo, who I wouldn't touch anyway; Brown, overrated; Carlisle, overrated; and so forth) will be off the board by the time Petrie gets back from Europe.
True, Petrie has to go to Europe to evaluate talent, but he better be paying attention to the coaching, too. Otherwise, it's going to be Mike Fratello.
By the way, there is far too much bitterness about Monta Ellis in these parts. You guys need to find out more about him. Martin is young, but Ellis is incredibly young. Is he 20 yet? And I'm really sorry to say this, but making the playoffs DOES matter.
Imagine the Cavs without James. Now, I know the talk is, "Will it be Dirk, Nash or Kobe for MVP?", but for my money, it's James in a landslide. Would the Cavs be one of the favorites in the East without James? No stinking way. They'd be the Pacers without James. Heck, they might be the Bobcats without James.
Martin had a LOT of long stretches (WEEKS!) where he might as well have been just another anonymous two out there. That's where Ellis won; he's in the playoffs, and he didn't disappear for weeks at a time.
