no doubt. If yall believe the NBA wanted the Kings-Lakers to go 7 in 02 how do you think they feel about this game 7 setup:

KG, Pierce, and Allen fighting for their first ring

Kobe trying to get his first ring on his own (not doing a good job these last two games though)

and to top it off, between the two most storied teams in NBA history WITH the Lakers coming back from a 3-1 deficit.

If Stern doesn't have a hand in these games, I sure bet he's praying for a game 7!

Well, an extra game wil sure make NBA some more money and there is never enough of that.

The NBA already made their money with their contract from the network. It's the network that makes money, not the NBA. The NBA gets paid regardless.

Aside from the collapse in Game 4, the Lakers have controlled this series. Kobe said it best... If somebody told them it takes 2 wins for the championship, they'll take it. Yeah baby. 2 wins. That's it. To Boston the series goes, where Boston is known to cheat.

I hope you are right.

that doesn't include revenue generated from attending the actual game.

Yes, it is in the NBA's interest to provide the network with an entertaining series... of course this thing is gonna go at LEAST six. ;)

That is peanuts compared to the $2,000,000 (that's the amount I heard) per minute air time on spot commercials being made by the network.

Wow. There is no delusion greater than Laker fan delusion.

The Lakers have controlled the series? Interesting. And that's why they're heading back to Boston behind 3-2.

Boston is known to cheat?

Good grief, dude. Suck it up and admit it. For the most part, your team has been an embarrassment, totally outplayed and, at times, outcoached. You're lucky to even still be in this show. I wouldn't start planning the parade quite yet.

I am just waiting for Kobe apologists (Gargy where art thou?) to come out from hiding so I can stick 'em all in my sig.

Go Celts! (Just this one time, I don't like them that much more then LAL.)

Said like a true Laker fan... Boston cheats, but the Lakers never do... please.

I'm sorry, but the two wins were barely won. Oh and I mean barely. Game 3 you are a missed 3ptr from Vujab**ch from losing, and in Game 5 the Lakers blew another massive lead and were a few made KG shots from losing. Thats hardly controlling the series. Delusional, I swear.

My original prediction was Celts in 7. But I see them finishing it off tonight. They have only lost 1 game at The Garden these playoffs.

Can someone be banned for outright stupidity? Just checking.

i responded in PM, but then figured maybe someone else can provide a sanity check.

wouldn't the NBA be making a considerable sum of money from having another finals game? you've got the actual ticket sales, concessions sales, merchandise, companies who pay for advertising rights at the arena, etc.

and besides, wasn't you initial point that the NBA wouldn't make money off of having additional games (i.e. there are no conspiracies to extend the series)?

I think the Celtics will win this by 30. 40 if they dont sub the 12th men in at the end.

Since I am inclined to believe that Stern and co. would and have extended games to 7 in order to garner more revenue, I really don't think he can do it this time. There's just too many eyes watching. It's probably killing him. I can see him in his mansion tomorrow wearing all purple and gold. God, I wish NBA commissioners could be impeached....

I actually found the reffing in game 5 to be really good until the very end. But, it was only the end that mattered.

The whole conspiracy theory thing is getting irritating to me. I can see how it affects us when we're talking about our series in 02 but to say that the NBA wants to stretch this series is a bit ridiculous in my opinion. The calls have been quite balanced.

While I may be wrong and it actually is true that the whole NBA is a conspiracy and by right the Bobcats should be defending champions but they were robbed of playoff contention then sucks to me. Meanwhile I'll continue believing the the game isn't actually rigged, and I think that's far more enjoyable.

We are sorry to irritate you I am sure. The problem is that this thing opens the whole can of worms. This is precicely the problem with the whole thing. There is a conspiracy, we know this for sure. The big questions are: how far up does it go and how widespread is it? Fans can and will question any call they like now and actually have legitimate right to do so. Kind of sux huh?

Me to VF prior to the series. Good luck w/ the quote hunt.

"I'm actually concerned about the Smelts, only because they have HCA. If LA loses the first 2, you know how that goes. We didn't have Gasol in the 2 matchups, but still, neither were pretty. I'm concerned about our poor 3pt D and Radmanovic on Pierce.
...

I think Boston will win in 7, a thot which disgusts me. People can say they played like S [earlier in the playoffs], but they're not going to look past LA for obvious reasons."

It has gone too far. Which of course it would.

Its just lazy. And people commit the same intellectual sin again and again in all walks of life. Its how we invented sky gods and river spirits to explain thigns we didn't understand and had no control over. And once it takes root and you embrace it, you are never free of it. Anything and everything CAN be a conspiracy, could be a random god at work, and so you will just break it out again and again and again, only of course when you are not happy with something. And there's no way to ever truly disprove it, so it becomes a perfectly self satisfied and self perpetuating delusion.

There is a conspiracy, we know this for sure.

This btw remains the sloppiest of all. No we don't. And unless the feds are complete idiots, neither do they. Nor does Congress. Nor do the bookies. You think the obvious fixing of one of the world's biggest sporting leagues would be just ignored by these people? It would make the steroids scandal look like nothing. I have not closed the door on the possibility, but if there was anything truly concrete we'd be having hearings in Washington right now.

And if we continue to treat it as concrete, then there rapidly becomes no point at all in bothering with these sorts of threads.

Someone is in jail for rigging games. And you saw the part about that some of the games he was providing reliable infomation on were not ones that he reffed right? This argument is spent already. THERE WAS A CONSPIRACY TO RIG NBA GAMES. Whether it was between Donaghy and the mob or more than that we may never know. We do know that there was a conspiracy. Does that slight change in tense satisfy you? The completely and entirely mute difference does not really change anything does it?

I don't remember WHERE it was posted, but I will co-sign that you did, in fact, make those comments.

There was a conspiracy between a single jailed ref and the mob to rig games. That has nothing to do with anything else other than proving that where money is involved, ANYTHING can happen, in any sport. And the information he provided regarding other games was based on referees tendencies. You could do the same thing with baseball umpires (and in fact I would imagine bookies probably do).

Given a little thought, even a dedicated conspiracy buff would have to quail at the prospect of there being a conspiracy to fix the NBA Finals in the midst of a federal investigation (you recall that these claims had already been made to the feds and the NBA long before they were made public), let alone in the midst of the media maelstrom once the story broke after Game 2. Fixers like to work in the shadows, not in the spotlight.

Lakers tarmac monkey wrench conspiracy!

Here's another conspiracy for those who love to find one at every turn. Boston's plane broke down at LAX and was late (I heard 7-8 hours) from its scheduled take off this morning for the long flight back to Beantown. The Lakers flight was on-time so they arrived back east WAY ahead of the Celtics. Of course, that 5 hour flight is going against time so that makes in doubly hard when there's a long delay.

This episode is somewhat similar to what happened to San Antonio when their aircraft broke down last month after 7th game victory at New Orleans as they were attempting to get out of town to immediately fly to LA for WCF start. The Spurs where delayed something like 11 hours, couldn't return to their hotel as a convention just in town had pre-booked it and were left to sleep on the plane before eventual bleary-eyed arrival in LALALand.
