Laker rivalry continuing? (Split thread)

I think the rivlary will be there some still this season, with Phil back and of course Kobe.
The only rivalry now is based on the pure hatred of the Lakers, since they are no longer contenders. Personally, I still despise anything affiliated with the Lakers.

If they are a good team, and they are not at the top, nor the middle, that leaves the bottom............how are they good? Or did you mean in between the top and the middle?

Oh, tell me you aren't going to turn this thread into a discussion of the chances of the Lakers improving?

That isn't fair for those jerseys. As much as I detest them, they don't deserve being shoved aside for a discussion of that type...

;)

I already said how I think they'll be in the second sentence. I should of said playoff seeding. During the season I think around the 6-9 spot area.

I've seen a lot of people acting like they'll be a terrible/bad team by default.

I think Golden State will be a tougher matchup for us this year. They are building a very interesting team: Jason Richardson, Baron Davis, Troy Murphy, Ike Diogu, Mickael Pietrus, Mike Dunleavy, etc.

Key to Warriors success is Baron Davis' health. But I think he'll be fine for most the season. Warriors will be better and tougher in general. Diogu, who I like a lot from his college days, should have a very nice RY, and be in the front for ROTY.

Only if you let the "Finley" thread turn to dust...

;)
I can't. Finley called me and told me to bump it, so blame it on him.

I do not think Kobe was one of the reasons for the rivlary it was Shaq's and Phil's big mouth. Kobe was one of the Lakers that actually respected us through the media.

First, I would like to blame finley for me losing the shortest book title contest.

Second, I think the lakers will suck just cause I live in LA and uh, uh, uh, yeah they just suck. Haha.

Third, the rivalry can be whatever it wants to be as long as we're in the playoffs and they're not.

There are a lot more reasons than just Phil Jackson and Shaq:

1. Kobe. Yes, his demeanor at games and his allegations of suffering food poisoning allegedly eating a cheeseburger from hotel room service didn't exactly endear him to us.

2. Northern California v. Southern California - This is NOT going to go away because the names of the backs of the jerseys change.

3. Big city vs. small city - This, too, is not going to go away.

4. Does anyone - besides a Laker fan - really like LA?

5. They won in 2002 and we didn't.

Etc.

The other ones I aggree but you have to admit that Shaq and Phil fueled the rivalry. But with Kobe I think is the only one that respected the Kings; maybe not the hotel chef though.

Kobe may have given lip service to the Kings in the media but at games he was obnoxious to the fans, smug, etc. And, IIRC, he made a big deal out of us after we lost the 2002 WCF. Comments along the line of fans of teams who aren't ready for the big time should keep their mouths shut...

I do not recall that. Yes he had air about like every superstar has when on top of his game but other than that I did not see anything else that made him obnoxious well compared to Shaq and Phil anyways

He should I would be more upset if he thought it no big deal beating us. We had the best team and came very close to winning it all if it was not for Pedja missing that open shot.

hmmmmm. I do not seem to recall that

Only reason the rivarly ever existed was the media always hypeing it up. I doubt it will live on since Shaq or Fox aren't with the Fakers.

Btw, I'm not a Laker fan and I think LA is a beautiful place.

The rivalry may not continue for you, but it will for some of us...

AleksandarN - Where you AT any of the Laker games at Arco? And while I cannot quote him exactly, I know someone made a comment similar to that above. I'll admit I could be wrong about who said it...but I'm not wrong about Kobe's attitude towards Kings fans at Arco.

Not that it really matters. My initial point was that the rivalry wasn't just because of Phil and Shaq to a lot of us and it WILL continue. My hatred of the Lakers doesn't depend on the name on the back.

;)

I understand where you are coming from. For me it was more the players that I hated then the Lakers team itself. Not being from Sacramento I do not sense the rivalry as much. My hatred for the Lakers mainly consisted of Shaq, Phil, Fisher and Fox. Now it is only Phil I can not stand on the Lakers.

Why not Kobe Alek?!?! he was part of the rival days...

Becuase Kobe is my favourite player in the NBA. LAkers are not my favorite team though even though Kobe's on it because there is no team like the Kings and I still do not like Lakers because of the last 7 years,

Hmmm past 7 years It's been about Shaq and Kobe... If Kobe is your favorite player then Shaq is your favorite player to...

These guys were our enemys not our respected rivals....

Fisher flops - almost as well as Vlade.

Fish flop; it's what they do.

(I am in RARE form tonight...)

What you mean I said I did not like the Lakers the last 7 years

Okay.... I understand then. It's your choice but I don't get why you respect a player who beat us many times and broke our (hearts). It's your choice I guess.

I am wierd that way. Liking a player for me does not mean alot when it comes to liking a team. I fell in love with the Kings and will follow them for as long as I am still a live
