Kosta Koufos returning for another season

too many bigs on the roster...someone won't get much burn. ought to make for some good training camp competition.

Love that Old Faithful appears to enjoy playing in Sacramento.

Do not love that our big man depth chart is still two or three dudes too deep, even more so with Harry Giles being cleared for action.

C: Willie/Kosta
PF: Skal/Giles/Z-Bo
In my book as of right now Willie and Kosta are the only bigs on the roster that have proven worthy of rotation spot. Zbo at best should get 15 min off the bench if the team needs a scoring punch. Skal needs to figure out what he is and be consistent with it. Giles is a wild card that hopefully pays off.

Willie needs to be packaged with someone on draft day or Z Bo needs to go. Plain and simple. No room for two bigs such as KK and Z Bo to play substantial minutes in today’s NBA. That being said, I am happy Kosta is being brought back I think he’s a great vet and solid rotation guy who’s not gonna demand too many minutes.

I'm cool with moving both ZBo and Willie

Right on!

How about we figure out what Giles and Skal are before we go trading a guy in Willie who at least has proven he can contribute and has some traits that are rare to find in big men(potential lite pick and roll coverage, easy lob threat).

I think Willie needs to be traded this offseason. He's a backup at best and is now going to start his contract year. I'm not going to pay a non rebounding, mediocre big who is a 4th option but thinks he's a #1 option. I'd rather just get something for him this offseason and call it good.

so if GT and Shump both opt in we have 12 contracts 71.8 Mil, Dead money 4.6 mil, Cap space 24.6 but after 2 draft picks 5-6mil , only one spot and 18.6 for 1 FA.

Actually hope GT does not opt in, Shump wont walk away from 11 mil that means we could get a max FA this summer

KK is a very solid back up center, good to have him back.

Makes sense that Papa G was released, he wouldn't have gotten any burn next year.

Time for Harry Giles to prove he is a stud in the PF spot next year.

He opted in, does that mean he will be back? Good backup center on last year of contract when salary cap room is hard to come by again. Seems like a more valuable trade chip than ZBo.

Willie is gonna be a beast this year, then revert to his soft, inconsistent self after we overpay him. So yeah, if a good offer comes up or a superstar becomes available, I'm down with selling high on him this upcoming season while he puts up numbers for a payday. That being said, I wouldn't trade him just to trade him. In the off chance he accepts a team friendly contract, he'd still be a useful piece of the puzzle.

I totally agree that he's a bench player. Legit bigs dominate Willie, but he tends to do well against lesser competition.

I also agree with those saying we have a logjam in the frontcourt. Especially with Giles joining the fray, and lord help our rotation if BPA is a big come draft day!

....oh, and welcome back Kosta! ;)

He opted in most likely because no one would match that salary. Net negative to neutral value. Tradeable sure if the chips fall to need or for swapping salary inflation perhaps.

Needless to say but trades will work differently than FA. Kosta could have gotten this or a higher salary only from a team under the cap, but virtually any team can trade for him. He is the kind of player and contract that a lot of teams can find useful.

I had earlier posted a possible trade with Boston. Think they like Baynes, and he is a good fit in their system. However, I think KK is a clear upgrade over him. Haven't checked the numbers, but if they add someone like Semi Ojeleye, the numbers will probably work. Boston, if healthy next year, will look to seize the EC title from the Cavs (I don't think they beat them this year with their injuries), and if they can upgrade at center for the price of Semi, who has had an underwhelming rookie year, I think they might be interested. For us, Semi plays a position of need, and despite his rookie struggles, I think has the potential to be a good 3 and D player.

I'm not saying that we should trade Kosta, but that he is someone who has value, and can get us something. Depends on whom we draft, what we think is the potential of Giles, our long term plans for KK/Willie, our thoughts on JJ/Bruno/Nigel/pick to play the 3, etc. Overall, I'm happy that Kosta has opted in, because I think cap space has relatively lesser value for us. Kosta has been a thorough pro, who has played well in a backup role, and has maintained a positive attitude.

I too think that Willie should be traded. He is wonderful with fans and especially kids. However, as a player on the Kings, he does not do it....nor does Kosta. Gentlemen yes, but not helpful for wins. Take a look at our record.
