KMart’s back in town.
Sacramento Kings’ shooting guard Kevin Martin played in his first competitive 5-on-5 basketball action of the summer tonight, pouring in 37 points to lead DMC to a 110-102 victory over Team Kaashif in the Sacramento Professional Developmental League.
Martin jetted back to SacTown late last week after an extended home visit to Zanesville, Ohio in which he participated in the annual Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. He topped off his trip back east with a solid stint with his personal trainer in eastern Florida. Itching to get back on the hardwood to compete, Martin officially became a 2nd year SPDL player this evening.
In Martin’s return to the league, he went 14-for-24 from the field (including 1-for-4 from beyond the arc) and 7-for-8 from the charity stripe.
The Kings’ two-year pro lit up the Capital Christian Center scoreboard with a variety of drives, dunks, alley-oops, and outside jumpers. Martin looked cat-quick and was unstoppable on his drives into the lane. His lightning first step could not be matched, and he often spun clear of double teams for open shots.
The game was close for three quarters, but Martin’s steal, drive, and spinning one-hander with 3:48 to play was the crucial blow. Martin was fouled on the shot and converted the three-point play to give his team its biggest lead of the game, 98-87. Martin scored 12 points in the deciding fourth period on 5-for-6 shooting.
Martin’s team, DMC, is slated for action again on Wednesday evening against New Faze Development. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM at Capital Christian Center. NBA free agent and former King Matt Barnes has been playing for New Faze Development.
Entry Fee is $5.00
