Kingfans Scouting Report #1:

Klay Thompson: 6'7" w/shoes, 202 pounds, Junior SG/SF. If I were lookiing for a SG in this draft, Thompson would be up at the top of my list. He may have been the second best player in the PAC 10 this past season with only Derrick Williams being better. He was definitely the best player on the Washington St. team. He's a very good shooter, shooting just slightly under 40% from the three. He shot 43.6% overall. He handles the ball very well, and is capable of scoring with either hand at the basket, though he tends to favor his right hand whenever possible. He's also a good passer and averaged 3.7 assists last season. And while he's not a great rebounder, he's not afraid to get in mix it up, and he averaged 5.2 boards a game.

Athleticly, he's average, but he has decent lateral quickness, and proved to be a pretty good defender at the college level. He has fairly long arms and quick hands. So he got his share of steals along the way. Personally I think he would be just fine guarding SF's in the NBA, but could have some problems with some of the quicker SG's in the league. Problem being, he would need to get stronger to play the SF position on a regular basis. One area he needs to improve on, is his propensity to turn the ball over. Most of his turnovers are caused by bad decisions as opposed to ballhandling ability. While he's fairly good at driving to the basket, too often he drives into traffic. He doesn't have great hops, but he can certainly dunk the ball.

He can make himself valuable to whoever drafts him with his abiltiy to make the outside shot. As a spot up shooter, he's right up there with the Fredette's of the world. He's also very good at creating his own shot, and while his percentage drops a little coming off screens, he's still a very effective shooter. Around the basket, when he makes good decisions, he has a variety of shots including teardrops, pullups, and little flip shots. In short, the kid is a very good offensive player.

I think he has a good future in the league. I don't see him as having star power, but I do see him becoming a very valuable role player, and possible starter down the road. I think he could go anywhere from 12 to 20 in the draft. Maybe higher, if some team falls in love with him. I don't see him on the Kings radar unless they were to aquire another lower first round pick.
