Hall of Famer
I will be out of town/busy – so it is early but I am sure that most of You are already tired of the preseason. If You don’t like reading a lot - You will have enough time to get it done till Wednesday. No “Cliffs Notes” available – sorry
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Disclaimer (mostly for new members) –

Whatever You read in here is MY way of seeing things. You don’t have to like it and You don’t have to agree with any of it. You don’t even have to read it. I don’t care. If You by some cosmic coincidence agree with it all the time – You need to see a doctor even though it already might be too late.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

New season is about ready to start which means that we are going to “see” about 87-88 Kings games with hopefully more good nights than bad nights. Kings still unbeaten this season will try to stay that way as long as possible but it might not last all that long considering yet another road trip to get things started.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Another very long summer is behind us. Another summer where Kings got nothing. All the hopes, the speculations the talks etc and yet nothing really happened. Nothing worth remembering. The sooner You get eliminated from PO – the longer the summer is. To add insult to injury – the summer before that was a carbon copy. It just reminded me how much I hate the movie “the groundhog day.” Could we really handle another summer like this ?
------------------------------------------------------------------------

And yet – summer is not nearly as bad as preseason. or as I call it “The Mateen Cleaves Memorial Tour” Complete waste of time where people pay to watch players that will end up waving towels. The stars either don’t play or if the play – they don’t care. Pure garbage. If You want to find people that really like the preseason – You have to look at the owners of euroleague clubs or as I call them “The Vultures of the Mateen Cleaves Memorial Tour.” The wait till a player gets cut to get him cheap to fill out the roster places. Kings and preseason are at war since I follow Kings. Unfortunately we are the one with heavy casualties. It is too depressing to list all the injuries that we have suffered in this war. Basically, only good thing that ever happened in the preseason is DC’s fist that landed in Fox’s jaw. And even that cost us a 5 game suspension. Therefore – I boycott the preseason. We don’t need it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

This season just like the last season will be the one where Kings are” too good to die but not good enough to live.” We got a new coach who apparently realized the true potential of the team quickly - which already caused him to turn to alcohol which is not a big deal. Can’t blame him. Unfortunately, he was dumb enough to go for a ride. I am not even going to compare him with RA because it would not be fair. However – there are some big shoes to fill and not just on court unless “class” has become overrated.
Other than that Musselman is not a miracle man. He can’t create a solid backup PG or a shot blocker or a rebounder or a inside presence or the bench.. He will bring in the fresh air, some more defense, some not so pretty offense but the end result will be the same.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

We lost Bonzi Wells who should shoot his agent and then himself. He was our best player in the short postseason and our best rebounder and inside presence. We brought in Salmons. Awsome. Pretty soon we will have a talking gecko as a mascot telling us how much money we saved (on postseason tickets). And I don’t care what Salmons or anyone else did in the preseason.
We brought in Mo Taylor in case that - god forbid – other 15 PFs of that type that we have – get injured. He was cheap and there is a reason for it. Isn’t it enough that we kept Jason Hart ? What is this ? Some stupid reality show called “Kingsfans fear factor” or “Survivor - ARCO” It is like someone has a “Kings fan woo do doll” and a very creative mind in a sadistic kinda way.
Oh don’t worry – I didn’t forget – there is still the majority of CWebb deal left and those “flexible pieces” seam to be harder to move than a bag of fresh spinach these days. Even worse – it doesn’t look like anybody is trying to do something about it. Last season I was able to get a hot dog and a six pack for KT. This season I couldn’t deal KT and Hart & co for a second pick in year 2357. I am also tired of expiring contracts that expire over the 3 year period.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

A year ago we were trying to address our weaknesses being backup PG, inside presence on both end of the floor, shot blocker, rebounder etc. Even FEMA is more effective. This season we are only deep on a position that shouldn’t exist and that no other team has. The position is defined as “no rebounding, no shot blocking, perimeter, short, soft PF” No other team comes close. We are one major injury away from a lottery. Yes, so are other teams but I am not a fan of other teams. Looks like we will at least start the season without Mike Bibby. It is a great opportunity to see how much we suck at that position when Bibby can’t play his usual 40+ minutes. None of the other guys is good enough to be a back up on a good team. And again - I don’t care who showed what in the preseason. I could start with what I think about our backup center but since our starting center is closer to a PG that a center and noone else is taller than 6-9 or so – it makes me depressed and I feel like drinking without the driving part.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The ideal season would be to go 4-78, win the lottery and “start over” It is only way to break out of this “vicious circle” that we got trapped since the Webber trade.
Here is why I don’t want it to happen. First of all – losing 78 games is a lot of sleepless nights and I like to sleep. Second, we don’t generally have luck. Here is what that means. Imagine a lottery where there are 1000 balls and we “own” 995 of them. With our luck – we would still end up with the 6th pick and we would pick some combo guard or a 6-8 PF in case that MO Taylor get injured. Lot easier to make it 7th or 8th in the West, lose honorably to a good team and then have another long summer wondering what if and making up crazy trade proposals.

Western conference is a killer maybe more than ever. 3 PO spots are already taken by Spurs, Suns and Mavs. After that – about 10 teams will be fighting for 5 spots. Actually, 10 teams are fighting for the one spot which doesn’t mean the first round exit in the Pos. The other 4 will probably have a very short post season. And of course – there is that Northwestern division that sucks compared to the other two but will still have one spot guaranteed. It will be very interesting and every game will count. Last season we wasted 2 games towards the end (Utah and Phoenix) that cost us the 7th spot and a better chance of advancing. This season – it will be harder and those unnecessary losses will cost more. Every game will count.

It will be an interesting NBA season in which I expect the refs to continue tu suck – lead by hall of famers in that department – Violet “CWebb kryptonite” Palmer and “Dick “don’t hit his elbow with Your chin” Bavetta. I expect Shaq to continue to complain about everything and anything and to have yet another horrible FT shooting season. I expect some big names to be traded (none of them to us). I expect the Knicks to continue to do what they are best at – suck.. They will also be some “scandals” that will hopefully not involve Ron Artest. And of course not to forget the commentators and analysts who will bring us to yet another level of annoyance lead by Bill “best in the history of Western civilization” Walton. Greg “Kings suck” Anthony and Steven A….. Smith. Don’t forget sir Charles who could immediately ruin our whole season by giving us credit of any kind. It will be a bumpy ride but we will have fun along the way.

Kings schedule is different and yet the same. We open on the road again. It is not a Texas triangle so we don’t have to start 0-3 and then go to Phoenix to win a big game. Still we open with 3 on the road and 0-3 is possible and maybe even probable if Bibby isn’t able to play and play well. A home season opener would be nice but it isn’t written in our stars

Here are some expectations for Kings players in no particular order. Note that I will only include players who actually might play.

Mike Bibby who is our only PG we have needs to stay healthy. I expect pretty much the usual and any defense would be bonus (I don’t care about preseason) I don’t see him making the all-star mostly because Nash and Paul just being better players. We need this guy healthy
Ron Artest. Only person to keep Ron out of the all-star game is Ron Artest. He is the best player that we have and he is still very volatile. So expect lots of usles and irrelevant garbage coming out of his mouth and don’t pay any attention to it. Also expect him to play great defense and be the first option on offense too. Some technicals and a coiuple of ejections are mandatory.
Brad Miller – I expect brad to improve his PG skills and expand his range shooting more threes. Maybe this time around he decides to shoot more. A rebound from time to time would be nice but it isn’t mandatory. 20 double doubles and a triple double would be nice And of course – he should be able to find some opponent PGs in traffic again.
Kevin Martin – let’s see if he can have his 3rd season similar to what Pedja had in his. We are going to need him to also play in some road games. Whether he has a shot at moist improved player will depend on many things but I do expect him to be 3rd scorer on the team

From the rest – I really don’t expect anything that will help us significantly on regular basis. Here and there – sure but to count on any of them night after night after night – don’t hold Your breath.

SAR – some points, some rebounds but rarely at the same time. Should start but probably won’t. Let’s hope he can stay away from dental problems this season
KT – same as SAR in addition to a bad attitude and bunch of turnovers trying to do what he isn’t good at
Garcia – will hopefully hit a three before the all star break. Might be our best shot blocker but still very much out of control.
Salmons – has played Kings many times and has never won TDM award. Why did we get him again ?
Hart – yuck!!!
Mo Taylor – Was Ostertag not available ?
Williamson – best backup center that any opponent wants to see.
The rest – Mateen

Musselman – I would settle with him staying out of jail. Maybe less drinking or no driving for a change. Has to be given some time but doesn’t have too much to work with. If he can get anything of the bench – I would be satisfied.

So we start with Minnesota and it might be already cold there. As far as I am concerned – they still suck. I never really liked them anyways. They have some solid players, some Kings killers and of course Vin Baker. I hope that we can keep it close but if Mike isn’t playing we won’t be able to score much down the stretch. I also expect around 25 TOs and a triple double by KG who will be guarded by …

TDM award will be a close race due to so many candidates. My favorite will be Mike James. Foye is a rookie and should be a dark horse in this race. Some previous winners are there too including Baker, Griffin, Jaric, Hudson etc
LW-VC award will probably go to any Kings PG not named Mike Bibby or who ever guards Garnett. Mo Taylor might be a candidate for a honorary member (lifetime achievement award in this category)

Go Suns !
Go Warriors !

As per the usuall whenever we play Griffin, I expect a huge night of about 12 points, on 4-6 3pt shots, 8 rebs, and 4 blocks.

And Mo can share the LW award with Jason Hart...And I dont see that changing...Ever.

Well piksi, everyone in the office was wondering what I was laughing out loud about, so you've done it again. :D

Piksi must have been training in the offseason, because he brought his A-game to start the season. Wow.

Agreed. I forgot how much fun it was to read some of that stuff you throw together. Excellent! ;)

Am I going to be blamed for the colapse of global economy because noone seems to be working (including myself) ?

Wow great analysis, it is funny, but sad too because it is so true. When will this team ever learn? Well at least we made the playoffs 8 years straight being 1 of 3 teams to do that. I guess that counts for something. :D

TRUER WORDS HAVE NEVER BEEN SPOKEN!!

"Basically, only good thing that ever happened in the preseason is DC’s fist that landed in Fox’s jaw. And even that cost us a 5 game suspension. Therefore – I boycott the preseason. We don’t need it."

Right on Piksi! :)

OK, if you'd been around for, oh, more than a couple months you'd understand piksi's style. It's all out of love for the team, mixed with a serious dose of pessimism and reflection on what the team was like just a few short years ago.

Chill out.

Welcome back Piksi!!!! That is a great read. And I did it in one sitting. ;) I was laughing out loud, too. Not at work, but home scaring the dogs. :D I have really missed your write-ups. WoooHooo, game 1 is near!

Okay, someone pass the gravy. I think this serving of crow will taste much better if it's smothered...

I admit it, piksi. You're in full season form. WTG!!!

:D

This was one of the funniest Piksi threads I have ever read... The part where we'd get 6th and draft a 6'8 Power Forward in case Mo Taylor gets hurt made me crap up...

To piksi...the piksimist, entertainer, analyzer, Laker hater, Kings fan:

What a fun read. Yes, you brought your "A" game to start the season. How are you gonna follow that one? Never mind the question. I have full faith in your ability.

The real season does not begin until we have Piksi's Game Thread!!! I had almost forgotten how much I look forward to them! It's time for some KING'S BASKETBALL!!!!!!

WAIT! We still have 2 more days before tip off!:( ;)
