If Malachi can do Ben's job, do we trade Ben to save Farmar?
The thought had occurred to me. Not only Malachi, rem that Temple is back there too. But we've been pretty solid with Ben back there as part of the bench crew. I think its just the same thing that has killed us forever -- starting and relying on kids today. If we can keep the kids out of the main rotations, then you can keep them around. Rely on them and...no good.

Of course I will again note that Ben is likely in the top half of all NBAers as far as NBA experience at this point. So "kid" is only partially applicable.

Is Temple hurt? Our SG rotation should be Afflalo starting with Temple off the bench.....these are guys who know how to play. I'd float Richardson in occasionally. Notice I didn't put Ben in there.

After enjoying the feeling of solidity that the vet starting crew/rotation was giving, I have discovered that I am totally over the let's play kids to develop them thing. I mean, its ok in the preseason, but as soon as you do it, we're right back to #KANGZ. The young guys are welcome to step up whenever they feel ready to be solid themselves, but I will be perfectly happy if Ben, Skal, WCS, just stay right back on the bench and deeper in the rotation while the guys who know how to play get the bulk of the minutes this year.
You're in favor of benching WCS...??!?! Allow me to take mental note of this....done.

P.S. 10 PTs 4-4 FGs 3 steals...yep, definitely a bench warmer.

Kings shooting great percentages (FG% and 3P%), winning the rebounding battle, points in the paint and with 15 assists. But the 14 turnovers is the ugly stat keeping the Wizards in the game.

I'm in favor of decreasing the minutes of anybody not ready to help us win right here and right now. If they prove capable of helping us win right here and right now, then they're welcome to those min. But no gifts.

WCS likely doesn't have to worry about his rotation minutes anyway as he's the only true size off the bench unless Skal or Papa come around dramatically. But if he continues to rock negative +/- numbers then I'm not going to advocate artificially pumping his numbers up beyond those he has to get until he's actually ready for them.

A lot of their scoring is coming off turnovers. I suspect our turnovers will go down but our 61% field goal shooting will more than likely go down as well so we will see what happens in the second half. Either way at least our regular rotation players have been competitive or won the battle every time they've gone up against the opposing team regulars so far in preseason.

Im still hoping Joerger can get Cousins' turnovers down. He already seems to have Boogie's efficiency moving in the right direction but coughing up the ball six times is too much.

EDIT: Make that 7 times now.

Cousins runs into trouble when he tries to do too much. And without Afflalo & Gay it seems like he's looking to do too much.

Not to mention this is the Kentucky game, and Cousins is probably too loose/All Starry trying to make spectacular plays.

Meanwhile Kentucky seems to have triggered post-traumatic flashbacks for Skal.

Patterson be all "Don't cut me man!! Don't you do it!!" But too little too late, and given our crowded roster just no chance.
Legit question....who is better between Ben, Malachi, and Patterson? I guess one could add in Temple but I consider him a better player than Ben currently and that's not the question. I think eventually Malachi and his length andmentality are going to be very solid and better but I find myself wondering if Patterson is also better. I'm not trying to knock Ben, I'm just trying to be a realist.

Are you talking about right now? Right now, it's obviously Ben. In the future? Not sure.

Richardson is a bit unathletic and slow laterally, so that makes his ceiling less than Bens. I don't think Richardson has low IQ, but he was a straight up chucker at Syracuse who saw no bad shot in any shot. Took a crapton of long 2s and was an inefficient scorer.

Richardson also has lots of problems finishing at the rim. However, he has good handles for a SG and can create his own shot.

I really don't think Richardson can contribute to this team at all this year.

As opposed to Ben who can finish at the rim? I don't know if I buy your evaluation on Richardson...don't know if your wrong yet either. As far as inefficiency, that is easily rectified at this level when he's not a featured player. I feel as though he may be a bit better athlete than you give him credit .....a different athleticism than Ben. Malachi's length helps in this regard.

But in the scheme of things, if Afflalo and Temple are getting the main minutes, where does that leave Ben? I guess there are 8 games while DC is gone where you got Lawson and Temple at PG and then Afflalo and Ben at SG....and then what? Temple wasn't brought in to sit behind Ben nor should he.

Well obviously right now Ben is by the far the best known entity. that doesn't mean he's the best, or will remain the best. but it does mean that you have tons of background on what he can do and can't do, and so if you are looking for steady and predictable (not Ben's bywords) you can at least design an offense/role around Ben tailored to take advantage of his strengths and deemphasize his weaknesses. You can't do that as easily with guys you have barely seen play at this level

If you were going to move Ben, what you would really be doing is saying that Garret Temple is now the backup SG, and Malachi or Patterson would be deep Reno/SG #3 only called up if Afflalo or Temple got hurt.

But remember that Vlade has pretty much said he's not moving Ben, so its likely moot.

That wouldn't even leave us with 5 players on the floor! I hate to say this, but I don't think this team is very good at all.

100%. This was the first game in awhile he looked up be even holding his own. Come regular season, assuming Kosta or Omri starts, I know who I feel more comfortable with if its him or someone like Tolliver
