[Game] Kings vs Spurs 7/15 (Summer League)

Big Papa is always looking to set a screen and he is tall. He also is relatively quick on his feet but he has a long ways to go. If he gets there, we did very well with that pick. If he doesn't make it, let's see what happens with Skal and Malachi. iCuz does not inspire me but he hasn't had much court time at all.

I hate being wrong.

Well we have a floor with Papa, Aaron Gray a little more mobile.

Your guess on ceiling is as good as mine.

One thing about Papagiannis is he looks like he's so conditioned to a role that he almost never looks to do anything with the ball. His hype is his offense and he looks shocked when he's out there alone with the ball.
 
Thoughts on the Summer league in general:

Skal: impressed and most ready to contribute. Most Potential to be an all-star if he develops.

Papa G: not NBA shape and needs to lose weight, but the potential is there with his athleticism and mobility. Shows a good touch around the basket. Very Limited offensive game, shouldn't be relied on to create. Good for receiving end of dribble penetration

Malachi Richardson: very long and good defender. good potential to be a 3&d shooting guard

Cousins: great length, but not a good athlete. needs to get a good jumper in order to be valuable to use as as backup point who can defense both guard positions.

I like all 4 of the rooks. I think where it gets interesting is when these young guys are on the floor with vets. All 4 rooks show skills or physical traits that the coaches are going to like. What will they be like when surrounded by vets who know how to space, know the intricacies of the game, how do they learn.

Yes, and in general teams with high picks tend to do better in SL...so where does this leave us? Don't get me wrong I could not give a rat's patootie about wining ANY games in SL; my comment was a sad-sack half joke about the fact that we were the only team not win any games in SL. But the serious concern is that we came in with one roster player and 4 picks BECAUSE we have been so bad in regular season play.

On a serious note the reason I do love SL is to evaluate our talent from the draft. Many of us felt that if 2 out of 4 worked out we would call it a win and Skal seems to be a real gem. Malachi has some skills and might just be a keeper and who knows about GP,but you just have to take a chance on a body that big with skills so I call this a success. Too bad we could not take the game but SL is just too guard friendly for a team this lean on guards.

I'm not positive about starters, but there were plenty of guys who were on the opening roster.

Ben, Ray, Nik the Brick, and the Coke Machine. Think I'm forgetting someone, maybe Acy. To be fair, we have Willie and the three first rounders this year. However, there were a lot more clear rotation players two years ago compared to this year where there's only one that's guaranteed to crack the rotation.

Possibly, but its worth noting that Murray entered that game shooting .265 in his first 4 games.

It is, of course, not about stats in Summer League, but its not as if he tore everybody else up the way he tore us up, and we had the worst guards in the SL.

Yeah Murray looked great today but so did everyone else who played against our guards .

I don't know what a Pikmin Lord is but I'll respond with total support in what you are saying. Given that we had higher picks over many of the prior years, most of them bombed out which is your point. This year, we have three first rounders in a year where most were unclear as to their NBA abilities. Perhaps we found 2 who are reasonably skilled and perhaps we found three. Heck, Skal might be a star. The irony is that with the relatively high picks we had to frantically try to plug our hole at sg in the past, we may have done better with a much lower pick, Malachai. Who knows? Good for Vlade and his crew. As badly as the Kings were criticized for their picks, these appear to be better picks than those who we have become acclimated to from years past. :p
