Kings vs Lakers

IT and Reke played very well, and we were up about 10 pts with them in there. Subs them out towards end of first, we've done nothing but crap the bed since, and they're still on the bench. Why does Smart refuse to ever sub IT/Reke back in around the 4-5 min mark?

Every other freakin coach subs their starters back in.

ESPN's play-by-play shows a lot of long Cousins jumpshots. He sure does like to bail the defense out...

Well except for the last one he has been wide open by 6 feet or more. that last one was him clearly trying to draw foul on Howard who came out to guard him.

Yup. Reke starts to get hot, Smart benches him for what is now about 10 minutes.

brilliant stuff. im telling u, if i see this bench the starters for the whole 2nd quarter crap happening the first week of the season im gonna be screaming for a new coach

They look bored to me right now, like they realize it's the end of preseason and they would rather be somewhere else.

Why isn't Smart treating at least one pre season game like a regular season game as far as rotations go? From Outlaw and Garcia getting extended minutes, to benching Evans for the whole second quarter, and i might be missing something but where was T-Rob?

Well, this is the issue that comes up when you have too many players.

Currently, none of our guards are on pace for 30mpg. At the very least, Evans and Thornton need to be there every game. If IT is your starter he should be at 25 minimum. Brooks is going to have to drop his minutes or something. You can't divide the 96 guard minutes by 4. It's not going to work.

Aside from this, the rotations have been ok. Considering Evans and IT didn't return AT ALL, I will chalk that up to preseason. Smart has a record of not returning his starters soon enough, but he usually does it eventually. Tonight he didn't do it at all. I expect he will in the regular season.

This is why I didn't get too excited about the starting lineup. Yes it's a step in the right direction, but Smart has to manage it correctly. That 2nd quarter he failed the test. A pre season test, but failed it nonetheless. Just ridiculous how unless you're Cuz you don't get back in. JT did, but that's probably due to TRob not being here.

well lets hope to god that this isnt him treating it as a regular season game. cause he did do this benching players for extended time thing a lot last season

Not a fan of this tyreke plays the 1st quarter and the chucker plays the 2nd quarter crap. Come on Keith "smart"!!!! You can't be this stupid

I think Smart needs to shut up about the starting situation and needs to pay some attention to how he's handling the subs. I hope this is just a preseason thing. But he is playing too many guys.

Thing is, he did this same crap with Curry in GS. Some night he barely got 20 mins, in favor of Acie Law, who's plying where right now?

He did it just about the entire 2nd half of last season.

He's done it every game this pre season.

I'm not confident at all this magically changes by wed.

Also can we run a play that isn't giving the ball to "X" player and clearing out? Our half court offense is holding this team back, we have been solid defensively and play best in an uptempo style. Our half court offense is terrible.

It's like Smart just has his set time when "X" guy is supposed to come in regardless of how the starters are playing, then he just forgets about guys despite only scoring 10 pts in a quarter lol wtf?

There's also the issue of he's not doing anything to help our big 3 except for iso Reke, iso MT, iso Cuz, and with Cuz not even running cutters off him. For all the talk of Smart getting us more points, Westy ran a better halfcourt offense. Remember those Beno backcuts every game as one example?

I am worried, but Monta still played 40mpg that year, and Curry played 33.

There is just no way Evans plays 20mpg during the regular season like he is on pace for tonight. Smart might pull this garbage during the regular season, and I'll kill him for it, but I have to blame preseason for this one.

One more note - Evans and Thornton were both at 34mpg last year. I expect them to get there this season too.
