This might be the night the Gentry honeymoon officially ended. And it's not really even fair to him. When you have injuries to a grossly mismanaged team build wise, it can make sense of things to some degree, and it did to some extent. Plus Dougs energy on the sidelines seemed to create more positive energy out there. They clearly lacked a game changer at the end of games but it didn't looking like random bodies being thrown around like playing cards.

The problem this game is mostly on the defensive end. Dude got attacked all night.
Yeah, but his productivity is worth something. I wanted to see him under Doug Christie or anyone that might attack other teams on pick and roll and play into them. I have no idea why they think they can drop off pick and roll. They don't have size. So, clearly not doable. But they do have athletes. Very doable.

How many coaches are gonna take the fall for the inadequacies of the players?

SLAB

Hall of Famer
Wait though, we have to hear the nightly, "I'll find someone that will put in the effort." The new "I'll have to watch the tape". Although that wasn't a weightless passive aggressive sneak attack on the players at least. lol.
We deserve better or whatever. Like those words will make these dudes change a thing. Lmao

Starting to feel bad for Kate, Kyle, and Mark. They’re trying so hard to put a good spin on things. It’s a tough job having to do so with such an awful product.

When are the Kings going to clean sweep a mess? Gentry never represented that, he's a Luke hire that is albeit better than Luke. It was already awkward that Doug got treated the way he did by the players. How many game balls were given out by the players that you can recall? The thing already about Doug is that he played the 3 guards together. Inadequate or not. Win or lose. THAT has to happen so they simply don't watch more value go down the drain.

But having a center that doesn’t automatically get crushed by large men wouldn’t hurt. Holmes is a solid piece of any roster. He’s not a great starting option on an already really bad team.
It's not necessarily his fault because he's expected to be the anchor on an already thin frontcourt when he's undersized and isn't particularly notable defensively or in rebounding.

But yeah, it's a problem anywhere but it's exacerbated by virtue of being the best option amongst the other pumpkins they have in the frontcourt.

I feel bad for them, the fans, the players, it's just so bad. Why is it so difficult to build a winning team with winning habits ?

Consecutive losses of 15, 16 now 25. Hoping OKC can drop us by 30, would put us in nearly a dead heat for the #3 slot in the lotto
man if we could finish bottom 4 that would be huge. There’s a good player we need in there. Hopefully a new coach will be allured by the pick he would want to build around/with

Because you have to be very clever about how you use the assets you have when you have them. You don't waste 2nd pick opportunities and then attempt to develop that player as a stretch 4 so a Holmes can come in and run all the pick and rolls. You don't stack positions in the lottery. You don't ignore league trends (wing size, switchability, spacing) unless you have a clear universal talent, which only a handful of teams will ever have. You don't hang onto holdover coaches 1.5 years too long. You don't build a FO like a tech firm. You have to invest the space you do have on the right pieces. Not filler or tons of overlapping talent. All things this team has done since Vivek bought the team and things the Maloofs did prior to selling.

I think it’s a combination of factors - coaches, scheme, personnel, culture, accountability, and basketball IQ. The Kings are lacking in all these areas.
And with the way the league is, with such little defense even being playable, if you don't have the tools to switch defensively no amount of any of those things will get you up very high in the rankings. Monte's build of PG's and PF/C's is about as a poor an investment as you can make right now.
