Lol Metu suspended one game only. 100% worth it
Haha, but honestly, probably not for him. He's still a minimum fringe guy that's been around for awhile. Should his stint with the Kings not extend beyond this season then he could have used his SL "go to" status to impress other potential suitors.

??? His contract is guaranteed and he’s gonna be in our rotation for sure. Assuming he produces in the regular season nobody gonna care about that punch for future contracts and he’s only 23.

I didn't say they'd care about that, I'm talking about having a show out game being nationally broadcast. And that's why I said beyond this season. This team is STACKED in the front court so we have to see how this all works out. I don't think we can even assume at this point he'll be a steady part of the rotation. Bagley, Barnes, Holmes, Len (?), and Thompson are probably all ahead of him at this point at PF/C.

The thing that separates Metu from most of those guys is that he was playing like a straight up stretch big 3/4 for most fo the summer league. He's a solid catch-and-shoot guy and was probably actually doing better guarding guys on the perimeter than he was inside. I think he'll be in the rotation this season.

That was Bagley's role, and there's usually only room for 1 of those types. Especially if you are expecting to play small since Barnes is the best at PF according to net rating on the 5 man units. If Metu plays then some crazy whacked big rotations are happening or other pieces are cut from the rotation. Or Walton goes back to what he did his first year where a player plays a few games, then sits for a few and they all get a ride on the roller coaster which is ridiculous. We already know what happens with that. Pissed players and inconsistent W/L patterns. Even platooning (which KILLS trade value) might not do the trick when you are this deep. Every year it's the same story, how do the minutes end up working out? There are only 96 minutes at PF/C and 6 players expecting to play. Nah, it simply doesn't work unless you are pulling out the same garbage this team has the last few seasons that in the end DIDN'T work on any level. Injuries are the only thing that ended up causing what did make sense to happen in the first place. Running a 13 man rotations a pipe dream. The only coach that ever made something like it work, and not that great mind you, was Hubie Brown and without fail it always at some point created a revolt in the locker room from players feeling underused.

Suspend a preseason game
If I recall, they usually suspend for regular season games, not preseason. I seem to remember times guys got suspended at or near the end of the season and the fallout was missing a game (or games) at the beginning of the following season. However, they still played during the preseason.

Not sure about Bagley. A) Metu plays better defense, B) Metu could be a better 3 point shooter and C) Metu could more be in the Kings future plans

Holmes, Len and Thompson are ahead at Center but Metu is trying to become a big wing. We kind of lack those.

Yeah but we aren’t talking about punching in summer league.

I’m not sure what you mean by room for 1 of those types? The Clippers tried to play a whole line-up and generally the belief is you can never have too many swing forwards. If Metu can make the transition he becomes a very valuable player.

I dont think so. We WANT Bagley to be that 3/4 flex swing wing that can defend the perimeter and in the paint, but I don't think that's his best role offensively. He needs to be in the dunker spot as a finisher and utilized more in the PnR. You say it a lot, he got stuck a lot in the corner spacing, giving way to Holmes in the PnR. The problem is Holmes is just flat out better than him in that role and one of the bigger rim runner finishers in the league. And I just don't think Bagley ever gets to a point defensively where he can be your "big" defensive anchor. Just not in the cards for him.

Bobby Jackson reminds me of Nate McMillan with the Hawks. Former players who stress defense. Obviously McMillan had former coaching experience. More or less I see the same type of potential effect Jackson would have on this team.
people kinda disregard bobby j, bcz he’s never really left. But that dude paid his dues before this first head coaching gig. Dude’s honest. To a fault. But the one common thing that annoys players the most is cosches or front office types, who dont communicate or straight up lie. Bobby’s going to be loved by his players, because he’s going to be 100, 100% of the time.

Yep. He's been an assistant coach for a decade now and the only time he wasn't an assistant for the Kings was when he was an assistant for Rick Adelman in Minnesota. This isn't a Vlade showing up out of nowhere and suddenly running the team situation.

Metu was one of my favorite players on the team last year so I'm really hoping some of these flashes we are seeing turn into something. He had 3 years of college and now he is in his third season as a pro so this is a pretty big season for him IMO. 35 percent from 3 last year and has looked like he can hit it both for Nigeria and in SL. If Bagley starts at the 4 we will see Metu a lot but if Barnes starts and Bagley backs him up I don't know how much Chimezie will see the floor.

I'm not as high on Metu as a lot of you guys. Small sample size but he's only shooting 32% from the field and 26% from 3 in SL. He's always looked very G League like to me. Will make one good play and follow it right up with a bad play. He's worth holding on to in case he develops further into his 20s but he just doesn't have the consistency at this point to get a bunch of minutes in the NBA. He's shown the ability to do a bit of everything on the floor but he just can't seem to do it consistently enough to turn himself into a winning player yet.

I agree. Why I would trade Fox for Simmons and move Barnes to the 4.

I think that's fair. 3 years of college and 2 years in the pros, albeit with limited playing time, is enough for him to start showing if he is a real rotational player or not. As mentioned it's usually one or two good plays mixed in with either nothing or a negative play. He has to start playing well for stretches and that hopefully turns into more.

I don’t ever remember us trying to make Bagley a stretch big for any significant amount of time. We barely had a real offense running out there to begin with, but yeah.

Most definitely.

I can honestly see the Kings being a pretty decent defensive team this season or at least in the middle of the pack. IF .. IF they stay healthy, the play in is something I’m confident we’ll be in. Fox playing 78-82 games is really all we need for me to believe in that.

So much can change in a matter of months

Getting hit in the air is how people get really hurt. Flagrant 2 and Metu came up swinging. So would I. the Kings need some mean.
The SL Kings with Bobby J and Doug C are showing the big league Kings how to focus on defense. They have been terrible at it. Get rid of Hield and Bagley.

Jason Anderson @JandersonSacBee
While others report on max extensions, sign-and-trade deals and national TV schedules, it is my duty as Kings beat writer to point out that six fouls (not 10) will result in disqualification in tonight’s Las Vegas Summer League championship game against the Celtics.
That’s great because it makes it more like a real nba game but why are they changing the rules now lol?

Yea. Undercutting a player is a universal no-no.
