[Game] Kings v. Hawks 11/05/13 Game Thread

Tyrekes rookie year we sucked but had something to talk about with ROTY might as well start McLemore and chase it again

The big point that I noticed, is that if IT had been gaurding Teague most of the game, they win this game. He killed Vasquez, getting in the paint at will

uhhh Malone took a timeout and still left Hayes for offense? Why not put in Ben...

Even if Ben can't walk he is a better three point shooter than Hayes. So is Jimmer but Jimmer has been declared dead and buried.

Patterson and Salmons led the team in minutes.

LOL.

Malone and Vivek were running the Warriors when they tanked for that Harrison Barnes pick.

Don't be surprised LOL.

I don't think we're tanking. It's just that Patterson is on our roster.
I remember saying, right around the time that the trade happened, that Patterson wasn't any better than Thompson, and was actually worse, in a lot of ways, and people reacted like they thought I was crazy.

I take no particular joy in appearing to be right. :(

Salmons earned them tonight. Had his best game by far this season and preseason. Hitting shots, playing solid D. He was far from the problem.

The problem continues to be the lackluster effort from the starters and then IT and Ben come in and save us. IT may not be the best defender (even though his D has been pretty darn good this year), but at least you always know he's competing and hustling 100%. And he's done pretty damn well against some top-tier PG's.

It's early, but I feel confident that Ben is the same way. I have yet to see him not going 100% on the floor which is why he and IT have been such an effective duo. The aggressiveness/energy is hard to stop by opposing defenses.

Don't underestimate the pull of this draft class.

6 or 7 guys are potential franchise players.

- if the Kings played as hard in the 1st through 3rd quarters as they do in the 4th, they'd probably be 3-1 instead of 1-3

- most of us have been saying it for years, but Salmons has to go. He had a somewhat good game, by his standards, but he just doesn't fit in at all. Special thanks to Westphal for saddling us with this albatross yet again.

- DeMarcus needs shooters around him, especially when teams defends him as the Hawks did tonight. When that happens, Isaiah and McLemore have to be on the floor.

- Grevia Vasquez is a slower and worse defender than Jimmer Fredette. He doesn't even try to move his feet. If the Kings starters continue to be unable to make open shots, then Vasquez's best attribute -passing the ball- becomes meaningless. might as well play Jimmer in that case, as he can make shots and play better defense, even if only slightly.

- Harping on Salmons one more time, what is it that the past three coaches have seen (Westphal, Smart, and now Malone) that makes them think this guy is good and worthy of starting? I just don't see it and neither do a majority of Kings fans. Salmons must have dirt on half the league. I can't figure out how else he manages to keep a job as a starter playing significant minutes.

- On the positive side, Isaiah Thomas and Ben McLemore have the makings of a really nice tandem off the bench, although a strong argument could be made that either or both could/should be starting.

Not trying to defend Vasquez, but he seems bothered by the injury still. Not moving well. He wasn't this bad defensively in New Orleans. Bad, but not this bad.

I don't get some of your guys "analysis" at times. Salmons was solid tonight. 13-5-4. Added 2 blocks. Good defense. There's plenty of opportunity to harp on Salmons (and there will be in the very near future), but he was good tonight. So why care if he lead the team in minutes?

Commish Adam Silver: "With the first pick in the 2014 NBA draft the Sacramento Kings select Andrew Wiggins of the University of Kentucky:)

Patterson is a shooter but he's tanking, thornton & salmons can shoot threes also

Salmons did a good job chasing Korver around and staying in his hip pocket.
