[Game] Kings v. Blazers 11/09/13

I understand what your saying but when IT comes in he is supposed to be the sparkplug...the team struggles with scoring as it is so I am fine with him putting up shots because it's either him or just having Salmons, Thornton and co. throw up bricks.

He was putting up shots while Ben was wide open outside.

And now, to make my night complete, Thornton is back in...

Except he was in with Ben AND Jimmer.

Who both need someone to create for them. That's not supposed to be IT's role. He is the scorer, if you want to play both Ben and Jimmer with IT then that's just too many guards at once and nothing good comes from that anyway. That's Nellie ball.

This game is not good for my mental health, blood pressure or brandy supply.

It's EVERYONES role to move the ball to the open man. If he has a good look no one is going to hold it against him for taking it. When he is forcing bad shots and ignoring the wide open knock down shooters he isn't doing his job.

He drew the defense, leaving Ben and/or Jimmer open, both of whom are long shooters. IT acted as though he couldn't see them and wasted two possessions. That's where the problem lies and the more Jerry and others blow smoke up IT's skirts, the more he's going to buy into the hype.

IT is the one initiating the offense in those situations. He absolutely must look for the open man and BE WILLING TO GIVE UP THE FREAKING BALL.

Except there really hasn't been an open man for the most part. Besides, if his role is to get it to the open shooters why hasn't coach yanked him for it? He continues to play plenty because while he may be a ball stopper, he provides a spark this team lacks.

I sincerely hope GV is still injured, otherwise as a fan of him as a person as I am, I am not seeing the impact on the floor yet

If the coach puts in Ben and Jimmer with IT, he obviously has something in mind other than IT dominating the shots. You may like what he is doing but I doubt if the coach does. IT was so much better yesterday and now he has reverted back to "look at me, I'm a hero" play. I doubt very much if this new culture involves freezing out Jimmer and Ben. Ben can shoot. It's quite obvious.

Except he was hogging the ball when there WAS an open man. That's the frustrating part.

Sigh.

I think we have to have a bit of perspective here about GV and IT here. I have seen comments saying that Vasquez does not makes any impact, and that IT is so selfish he should be out. As I said yesterday, our PGs are not the problem. They both know their role and they both are flowing the system more than anyone else. Our main problem is getting the open shots in.

Okay, I've taken a deep breath so I'll try to explain my thoughts on IT.

He is great as a sparkplug, coming off the bench. Arguably the best since Bobby J. But he is not Kobe Bryant. He is not there to do it all himself, to carry the team, to rise to the level Jerry Reynolds sees for him.

IT is there to spark the team and to draw the defense so that our shooter - Ben or Jimmer or whoever else is out there in that capacity - can get the uncontested easy shot. When IT does that, it's beautiful. Unfortunately, all too often IT gets tunnel vision. He brings the ball up, goes iso on his defender, draws extra coverage and doesn't even pretend to look for the open guy (and remember, if he's doubled SOMEBODY wearing a Kings jersey is open). That gives me a stroke because it's selfish and dumb and IT is more than capable of being neither.

I like IT but I want him to realize his true value is in elevating the team not just himself.
